Parents always taught their children respect, especially for senior citizens, telling the children, “Respect your elders!”. Our elders is that they are full of wisdom. Listen to them and learn. Young people scornfully tell the elderly that they don’t know anything and that their time is past. Others take advantage older people financially. Your views my friend, does the elders may gain respect?

I used to hate those people who are elder than me, It's because they're making my life complicated. But as I grow old, I do know understand. I respect them with all my heart. They had experienced more about life. So we must respect them and learn from them.

Hi Boylopez and welcome to my lot. I was raised to respect your elders too. I don't know what is wrong with this younger generation. I see young people walk right in front of eldery people and disrespect them. Me when I was growing up and still to this day when an elder person is talking I try to stop and listen to them you can learn so much from eldery people and the younger generation don't even think twice about it. What a waste!

Hello boylopez, Elders are always to be respected. No doubt some of the people often abondon their parents and dump them when they get all the property of their's on their name which is really bad.I have often seen lots of old people in old age home who have been left by their chidren and left alone when they need to be taken care of by their kids.

For me, it is not respecting our elders when our elders abandoned with their family. They need a careful respect. If you have elders please don't bring to the Old Aged Institutions. They needed you.

Of course they deserved to be respected at all times. I don't know how others take advantage on them financially 'though. As they say, we want to be respected when we are older, then we need to respect the elders too.

Respecting leaders in not just financially. Because other follow there leader, even though it is bad because of money. Follow the elders that are full of wisdom. If you follow, the other will follow, and time comes we are older, we may serve to be respected.

I was taught to respect my elders also, but I must admit some do act like they don't deserve it, I have learnt through time respect must be earned as well, but first off it must be given to start with from the young, and I also think it is a good thing to respect everyone until they prove they don't deserve it.

boylopez here in California a lot of younger people forget all that mom and dad did for them and when they age as we akk will do the youngerones are off to find that wonderful old age retirement center where they can shed dad or monm who is now moving too slow'and needs some help. lord almbithy not in o ur hoiuse, dad needs some special care, mom needs a hearing age, lets get them into that new retirement center they will just love it. not;. they would love being home in the home of their children whom they raised during good and bad times. I am not saying all people here get shut of mom or dad, just some of them do. I have met some here at G old Crest whom I cry inside for. they long to see their kin but they might visit every three or four months. this is the way to care for the parents who fed, clothed you and loved you? dump them among strangers. I am here only because we have no home.others here have well to do adult children who could shelter them at home but wont because they are getting "OLD" as if thats really horrible. i am 85 and if my son had not lost his job and we had not run out of rent money , I would not be here.sure its an assisted living facility but thats just bare assisted living. the kind the adult kids could jolly well do at home.my own son comes to see me each week. he finally has an almost full time job.[

It is true. In other countries is when reaching 18 is in independent. Most of the youth don't respect their children. Just continue life. I am proud of you. I am happy because you share the custom of the youth in your country. Old is truly need care, specially to their love ones. They need their love ones care, not the doctor, nor nurse, but love.

You don't just actually respect them... You need to listen to them. Elder people are too sensitive enough that just by small words they get easily depressed. They need to be respected and understand. Learn to listen to them for they tell lessons in life. I would like to share to everyone this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TB6VkEcXfTo

To an extent I do agree. I think that many of our elders have been there and done that and do have some valuable advice to really give us. Some valuable advice that really could get us out of some rather tight situations and really allow us to really get the benefit of their experience. And there is really no reason to take advantage of them, even if you don't respect them. However, most old people tend to be about as snide and immature as things as young people do. As bad as young people get the bad rap about not listening to their elders, elders can be equally as rude and disrespectful, thinking that everything that has happened after them is wrong and they bemoan about the good old days. We can learn much from the past, present, and future and to scorn any part of it is foolish.

Yes, i agree. Respect your elders because without them, there won't be us. Without them, we won't be able to enjoy all these privileges we have now. They are our fore ancestors whom make it possible. In the future, we will be elders of other's too, and if we don't want them to treat us the way we are treating our elders, we should start to change now. Though elderly's time is past, but still it's a fact that they contributed to whatever we have not, do not take them for granted.
