Is there something you do or have that would be odd in another opinion?

This is actually kind of funny. One of the tools I was issued for work was a box knife. So imagine for the last 13 years I have carried one around in pocket and needed it for 8 hours a day, at the very least, 5 days a week. It is no more for me to have it than it is to put my pants on. When I get off work, I toss it over in the seat or put it in the little place in the door of my car. I have to have it daily..so I have to keep it close. Literally it is part of my uniform. OK...so I volunteer to drive a group of us from school to a required Orchestra performance. I had got a new dress for the occasion and the straps on my heels were a little loose. We were all at the school and waiting on the rest of the class to arrive and I thought...hmm..I'll tighten the straps by adding a hole for the clip. I told the woman with me..very nonchalantly..will you hand me that box knife...she looks strangely..I say...right there...in the door. I didn't think of it as odd because it has become very normal for me to have it. Then it dawned on me how strange it must have been for them that I had it. I quickly explained why I had it, of course, but it made me wonder. Do you have something that someone else might deem as odd? Has anyone made you feel odd by something they had?

I don't know if this fits the bill but most of my guy friends have been surprised that I have my own tools. I don't mean gardening stuff although my lawnmower and wheel barrow have raised eyebrows. I'm talking hammers, screwdrivers, spanners, drill, etc. Just basic handy tools really but for some reason the guys seem a bit put off by the fact that I have them. I even had a small set of tools which I kept in the car and I was shocked about a year after leaving one of my exes to find my nice, clean shiny, well looked after car tools had been replaced with rusty, old, dirty, useless rubbish. He thought it was silly for me to have my own tools because I had him and he could fix stuff for me. He hated my independence with a passion.

That fits the bill perfectly MsTickle. Funny how there are things that we aren't "supposed" to have because we are women..LOL. I am glad to hear that he is an ex...you deserve your independence to be appreciated. There are men out there that love an independent woman. I think it's cool that you have your own set of tools.

MsTickle you remind me of this tv actress that left her acting role to make her very own fix it upper show where she explains in detail all the tasks you can do on your own and she is really good at it. Well, not perfect but she is also not that physically adapted which might tick the guys off too because they are. I have a few plus some I'm using now as spring is approaching. Mops, bucket, broom, sponges, and today I'm attempting to change that white stuff that goes around the bathtub because it really needs it. That's why I've not been around much in mylot, like anyone notices! Well maybe some like Jen and those I annoy. Say hello to the elderly woman that is here for me will you Jen because I only can do one today.

I have always been in customer service and about the only thing I always carries with me is my pencil or pen. I was taught very early to always palm my pencil and have it available at all times. Your story was pretty cute. Some people are rather freeky about things.

Putting pencil to palm and having it ready to write at all times. How do you use a pencil?

I have pencils and sharpies and pens stuck in the pockets of my pants too. The pants I have for work are cargo pants so there are a couple of pockets here and there. I didn't think for a moment how it might seem to someone else that I had it. I am so used to carrying it. Thanks for the response.

If the computer goes down we can now send each other notes? We never say we forgot? You could use yellow stickies too and put them on yourself like a walking message board. - not making fun of you ok, just wondering what the pencil in the palm is for?

Its really funny Jen... i wished to see the face of that lady.. Well, i cant recollect such issues that happened with me but surely similar to this case often occur on my local train. Like one day, a person kept a bag on the reck attached just top of my seat. All sand scattered on my head just from the buttom part of the bag. have a nice time.

LOL...that would be odd to have sand fall on your head while on the train. I guess the passenger must of dropped it. Yes...my friend's face was one for photo album for sure. Thanks for responding.

When we meet people they look at us as if we had fallen off the deep end when we talk about God and try and share things with them. Yes I know the feeling. I am a woman and people look at me strange because I carry a pocket knife. I have carried one most of my life. I had brothers that taught me so much and a knife comes in handy a lot of times.

I had a pet turkey. People in the area would ask if I was going to put it on the table and people from the city would say,you have a turkey? Yeah, it felt a little odd, because he was like a puppy dog to me. So you understand, I had moved to the country and farming was part of that existence. I had a huge amount of vegetables and chickens for eggs. Thought I would try geese and let them roam around and produce young. Then, it was turkey but as I started with only three young chicks and two unfortunately did not make it. So the one remaining became very attached to me.

Aww...a pet turkey! That is interesting! I have been around turkeys a couple of times but they weren't the pet kind of turkeys. They get pretty big too and they weren't real happy with me when I came into their pen. They didn't try to get me...thank goodness...but I sure was nervous. That's neat you had a pet turkey...what was the name?

Yes foul can be very protective and sometimes aggressive. The geese were very independent but knew me well enough to know their boundaries. That’s why if I screamed at them they would walk down the road to the neighbours. The single sad long neck ugly turkey wasn’t even assertive. As I sat in the evening on the lawn chair and got to thinking about life he would come and put its head on my foot like a dog sometimes does. I thought about that question for some time, as what to name him so I came up with something original. Hello there turkey.

This would be awkward especially if you were with people for the first time who did not really know what you did. Even though you were going to use this for a Good reason, still most people would feel a little awkward about it. I am not sure there are things people think I do are odd, except for maybe some of the foods I sometimes mix just to change them up.

My Dad was great friends with an auctioneer. He would go to an auction, strike up a conversation with someone. If an item wouldn't sell, the austioneer would say, my Dad's name will by it. My Dad would be in the middle of a conversation and say, "Huh?" Sold to and my Dad's name again. He always made sure that it was a dollar so my Dad would always bring about 10 ones with him. One day someone told him he had bought something while he was talking so someone. So he went up to claim his prize. A dollar for a can of chocolate covered ants. Now the auctioneer has a son, that son knows my brother. The situation continues. My brother is now the proud owner of a gargoil(spelling?). After all auctioneers have to get something for each item they sell. So up here, if you're friends with someone, you may be "it." The one where all the stuff that no one wants goes to. So we have the joke about the family gargoyle. Tell it to the gargoyle, I'm not listening. You must be talking to the gargoyle, you couldn't possibly be talking to me. He's a really ugly bugger. Supposed to scare away evil spirits. He could scare something,I'll tell you. My brother left it outdoors and it's breaking up. But he sure was fun, comment wise.

That's great! I bet he ended up with some "odd" things for sure. Thanks for sharing! I might have to get me one of those gargoyles...maybe a little version.

Hi JenInTn had to think a minute then I remember the looks on the face of Lin Chou when we were in the elevator together. She is very stylish and dresses immaculately for being in a retirement center where most dress very informally. She wears several pretty necklaces. I have a milk stones and sparking stones long necklace, double strands.well one end of the sparkling stones came undone. the only thing I could find to hold the sparkling beads to the milk stone strand was a bit of clear Scotch tape. I know this is not what most people would do but I had no other option. so she stares at my bit of scotch tape like I had a snake instead on my necklace. I wanted to explain but her rather snippy stare irritated me and I just said nothing. It is the kind that looks clear on packages so why is that so awful to hold the strand in place? Actually its not even that noticeable.

I would have loved to have seen the look on the woman's face. LOL! My son keeps his box cutter in his door as well. I don't have anything that I carry around that might make people raise their eye brows. Just the normal things here.

I carry with me a memory stick in my pocket all the time. Although this may not seem odd, some people may find what's on it a bit odd. I literally have everything on it. Resumes, passport photos, family pictures, family budget, my online business accounting, etc. I even have pdfs of checks in it. That's why I constantly check it in my pocket, and I freak out if I can't find it.

I can see why you would have that. It is a way to carry a ton of info with little room. I have one that I take with me from time to time when I need it too. I don't have near the information that you do on it, but I sure wouldn't want to lose it. Thanks for the response.
