Last year I had to be a part of a civil suit filed against our family and I can say that it is definitely not a very pleasant experience.Endless hours spent in the corridors of courtroom and inside the over crowded court rooms, many a times with no fan and seating facilities...Afterall that waiting , most of the time the case getting adjourned which is an endless process, can go on for years together. Also the fact that one can never be sure or predict the outcome of the case even if you are on the right side - all this made me realise that it is always better to compromise even if it not wholly acceptable to us... Friends, have you had any experience regarding court cases and legal proceedings, if so please share it here...

Hi anil, thanks a lot for your response and wishes...I agree that legal proceedings do take very long to get settled and if one can avoid it it is best to do so, however, it is not always possible..

Talking about long proceedings I am reminded of one of our relatives who has been fighting it out in the civil court since almost 28 years. There have been several compromise attempts, all of which failed due to some trivial matter and ego hassles on both sides...Now the father is old and the children are taking over and have decided to call an end to it by going ahead with the compromise, but the father doesnt want

Hello, yes in India legal proceeding will take to must time several years to decide. Here it is to much slow. It is not in our hand to avoid it but if possible we must be prefer compromise. Indeed, in India no one win in courts, all parties lose here.

I am so happy that I have never been part of such unpleasent experience. It has to be really stressful, standing the on the court, with all that suspicious looks of the people there. Yes, and you are never sure about the final judgement of the court even when you are on the right side. I hope that never happen in my future life.

Hi Ernesto, one thing that never bothers me is people and their looks or talk or whatever it is because I have come to realise that most people are either selfish or have double standards regarding most things in life...I care only about the few people who I am close to including few friends here and elsewhere online...What is more disturbing in a court proceeding is that , it feels as if you are looking at a bottomless well, not knowing how bad the outcome is or vice versa... Just sharing some experience of a lady who was in the court. She has been pursuing a case fighting for her home part of which she had rented out in good faith 15 years ago and had been cheated by the tenants who were related to her and come seeking shelter since they were poor and homeless...Now they were claiming it was their own and trying to throw her out.Thankfully, justice prevailed and after 3 years of effort and money spent, at last she was free to enjoy her home..

I have thankfully not had any personal experience Kiran here though I know how difficult it is for people concerned. My father and his ancestors were also lawyers and I have also heard about this 'compromise' .Why? DId you have any ancestral property with multiple heirs?

Hi kala, thanks a lot for sharing your views Kala, the battle still goes on...My maternal uncle along with another sisters children is trying to cheat the other 4 sisters( including my mother ) of their share in the ancestral property which runs to few acres.I am the power of attorney holder for all and have to directly deal with it...The legal documents and papers are old and some of them are in tatters, so it is a real hassle to even interpret it !

Hi ronny, In life certain things happen whether we like it or not and one simply cannot avoid it and that's how it happened in our case.I personally feel that we should never own more property than what we need, if you have inherited property one should make sure that all the records are clear and do not create confusion or complication in later years...But looking at the positive side, I did get to learn a lot about civil law and court proceedings ...
