Redecorating a room - which room in your house or apartment would you choose?

If you had the chance to buy something new for your home (furniture, wallpaper, paint, a new floor, new paintings etc) what would you choose and why? Which room in your apartment or house would you like to redecorate if you had the chance? There are a couple of rooms in my house that I would like to change, but my first choice would be a new couch, because the one that we have is very old, and there are holes in it, so we have to cover it with a blanket. A new couch is on top of our list and we have found one that we like, but it is very expensive, so we will have to wait. The second thing would be a new floor in our living room, because the floor is very old and it is not a pretty sight.

I share your dream about an art studio I am an artist and right now I only have a small room where I paint and draw and it would be amazing to have more space. My husband and I have talked about builing an art gallery in the garden where people could see my paintings, but we don't have the money for something like that, and so far I only have an online gallery. What kind of art do you do?

I can see that you are on Deviantart. I love that site, I used to be member, too. I looked at your art, I especially liked the one with the landscape, that is very beautiful. I sometimes make photomanipulations of abandoned buildings, but I also like to paint and draw like oldfashioned way.

This is very timely for me as we are having a renovation at home. We tear down the house which is wooden before, and slowly building a new one. Because of lack of budget it takes time for it to actually finish the whole thing. Right now the part that is getting built is the terrace on the second floor. Next would be the flooring there. The ceiling would be next as there was still no ceiling on the whole floor. The last one would be downstairs - and finally, wall paints would be the last thing we are thinking. Some parts of the house are still rough and no doors and windows yet. So much things for us to spend still.. hope money is just easy for us to get all this things over and done the soonest time. Well I do hope we can include a new couch and other furnitures on our list too. As most of are stuff are so old now.

Your renovation sounds like a big project with many things to do and many things to finish, but I think it is interesting to follow the progress and it gives you a feeling of satisfaction when you finish the renovation little by little. I hope that you will get the money to finish the renovation soon. It reminds me of the time when my husband and I moved into our house. We had to renovate the house before we unpacked our things, and it took us a long time to finish the bedroom, because the walls were falling apart and we had to repair them before we could use the room. We didn't finish everything yet, but we are able to live here now, and we will finish the rest when we get more money.

We're doing the same thing you and your husband is doing. The construction here stopped for one whole year as we don't have enough money to pay the laborers, mostly our relatives. Materials are somehow a little cheaper than paying for laborers. And it's only last December since we started it back again and stopped during Christmas season and resumed only on January. But still so much work to do, so little money Like you as well, we are living in the house even when everything has been teared down. We can't afford to rent an apartment as it will add up to more expenses if we do. So even if there are no windows yet and there were lots of dust, cements, sands and woods we are still here

well, it would be the rooms of my children. some say that parents should not intervene on how the kids want their rooms to look like. but every time i take a look at the rooms, i just wanted them clean and redecorate them changing the beds and have wallpapers on them. i also want to remove other stuffs that just crowd the room.

I think that my mother felt the same way about my room and my brother's rooms, because both of our rooms were messy and full of clutter I left my parents' home many years ago, and my own home is different and much more tidy. How old are your children?

Hi Porco, i plan to re-decorate my living room, since it is quite messy. I want to buy and put another small cupboard, for my son to put his study materials and his toys as well. Besides that, i want to paint my living room white in color. I want it to look bright and clean. I hope to be able to visit your home in future. Now, still remain a wish first, since i am still in the process of collecting more fund for holidays.

A bright and clean living room sounds nice. The walls in my living room are white, too, we painted most of the walls one year ago when we moved in. I hope that you will manage to save up the money for your holiday and visit my country and as well the other European countries that you want to visit I am saving up for my trip to Asia, but unfortuneately I think that it will take a little longer to save up the money than we originally planned, because we had some unexpected bills this year.

This artifact goes well with the scheme of my hall - Artifact that I picked up from a roadside vendor.
The only rule I follow is that when something needs to be replaced it gets replaced. Sometimes if I see something that I feel would enhance the look of my house. I will pick it up as I picked up this artifact a couple of years ago from a roadside vendor. .

I looked at the picture, that is a beautiful artifact. I don't have a lot of money to buy things for my home, but when I visit second hand shops or markeds I always to look at the things that people sell and sometimes I buy new decorations for my home.

I liked this piece as the items that were displayed were the work of some ordinary people with neither name or fame!

Probably it would be bigger reconctruction of my house, not only one room. But if I have to choose just one things, it would be badroom. My badroom really need new shower, because that one what we have is quite old and it is not looking and wotking like it should. But as I mentioned before my house need bigger reconstruction, new roof, dors. We already changed windows so it is looking better and also we can feel it also on account for electricity :-)))

Reconstruction of the house that sounds like a big project, is it an old house that you are living in? I understand that you would like a new shower when the one that you have now isn't working properly. We had to get a new toilet for our bathroom when we moved in, but the shower is okay, so I hope that we won't have to replace it for a while. Our bathroom is tiny, but as long as the it works I am happy.

I hope that you will get the chance to fix up your kitchen soon. We painted the walls in our kitchen when we moved in, but I would like to paint the kitchen cupboards, too and change the tiles, because they are not very pretty. I was thinking about doing it this summer, but I don't know if we can afford it if we also want to save up money for travelling.

Oh man, EVERYTHING in my house needs re-decorating. We have this weird theme going on in our kitchen, from like 1984. .The walls are this weird offwhite/tan color and we have this horrible wallpaper at the top. I would love for my home to look modern and awesome. The living room is blah - nothing really interesting in it, although it doesn't look bad, there's just no interior design theme. The color of my room is also white - I don't mind it that way though (I'm in the basement, it gets dark with darker colors because I don't really have any windows). Pretty much every room in the house could use some re-decorating/painting/new wallpaper/the whole nine yards. Just gotta find the money (AND THE MOTIVATION!!) to do it - that seems to be the problem.

I am not happy with our kitchen either. When we moved in the walls were orange, and we didn't like that, so we painted them white. We didn't have the time and the money to paint the kitchen cupboards as well and they are not pretty. They look like something from the 70's, and I would love to paint them. The kitchen tiles are hideous, too, but at least we got rid of the orange walls

If i had a house it would be alot of fun for me to decorate and see what i could do. I think i would like to do it. But for me i would buy a hosue that wouldnt need much work because i dont think i would like to have things that needed to be done and pick out paint and all that but then again it might be fun in the long run and match with the decor i wanted as well. Im glad to be getting a house this year so i could decorate. The house i live in now is my parents and they do want to change up some things in there house. They would like to get a flat screen TV and get rid of the entertainment center they have and do something different and put the entertainment center in the living room and move the piece of living room furniture to go under neath a flat screen TV.

I think that it can be fun to decorate a new house and pick out the colours and the decorations, but it is also a lot of work. My husband and I bought a house last year and we spent a lot of time repairing the walls, painting and getting everything ready. In the begining everything was a big mess we had to move the things from one room to the next all the time. Now most of the it is done and that is very nice.

I would pick my living room.If I was able to buy one thing to improve it I would buy a couch. My couch I have now doesn't match the room and its worn.I can't get rid of it unless I have another to replace it .I would like ti look for either a tan couch or a blue one.I want to go with the color theme of either tan or blue.I pick the living room to fix up because it's the room guests see when they come over. When I come into money the couch will be on the top of my list too. :)

We have the same problem with our couch, it is worn and it doesn't really match the room. The couch that we have used to belong to my ex-boyfriend and me and our living room was different from the living room that I have now. The colour was okay at that time, but my husband and I have different kinds of furniture and the colours of the walls are different, too, so the couch doesn't really match the rest of the room. Yes, the living room is the room that people see when they come over. I would like to have a beautiful living room, but it is not going to happen right away, we will have to improve it little by little. I hope that you will get your new couch soon

I love to decorate my house.I keep searching for new, trendy ways to make my house look different and good.I prefer to re decorate my living room, because it is the hub to all our relatives, friends and colleagues. We regularly have too many visitors to our house. So i don't want them to have the same look to my house whenever they visit.I try to re-position things and furniture in my house to give a new look.I buy a variety of wall paintings, wall hanging and photo frames to hang them around. From table covers to the sofas i maintain them very neatly.I care a lot for the interior decoration. At the same time my husband gives a lot of support when it comes to interiors and infrastructure.Otherwise, all this wouldn't have been possible.Because we need to invest a lot.I am happy for that.

It is nice that your husband supports you and lets you find new ways to decorate the rooms. It sounds like you have a beautiful home. I love decorating my house, too. We don't have a lot of money to spend on new things, but I like to rearrange the furniture sometimes and find new decorations for the walls. It was a bit of a challenge to arrange the furniture in our living room, because it is a very big room, but it was also fun to experiment and the arrange the furniture in different ways.

Hi and a happy day to all. I just decorated our lounge room. Me and my hubby bought a board and craft things, and we gather pictures together. One by one, i am the one who arranged and pasted the pictures in the board. It went well with my craft ideas too. Now it is hanging on our lounge room and we are happy about the outcome. I am thinking of decorating some other parts of the wall, including our bedroom. Its surprising how it will make you feel relaxed when all of the things in the room is organized and beautiful. Enjoy your day.

That sounds like a great way to decorate your room. You made the decoration yourself, and that makes it completely unique, I think that is great. In our home I am the ones who decorates the rooms and I always enjoy that. So far the decoration in our living room consists of 20 small pictures (most of them are surreal art pictures) but I am thinking about adding something else. You are right, it is nice and relaxing when things are organized and beautiful, I feel better where things are that way.
