What is up with these purely 'informational' discussions on here?

Has anyone else noticed this? I'm running through interests looking for discussions to respond to and every so often I will find a discussion that goes something like this:
"Water is good for you, because it boosts your metabolism, has nutrients and minerals we need in our bodies, and makes us feel more full so we don't overeat. So, drink a lot of water!"
I just made that up, there's not really a discussion like that, but that's the basic gist of it. I don't really understand it. YES - we know water is good for us! And no, that leaves literally nothing to say after that. (Unless we want to be goofy and disagree just for the sake of having something to argue about - lol). Or even worse, we could say: "Thanks for the reminder. Happy MyLotting".
I'm just wondering.. What do you feel about these types of purely 'informational' discussions? Do you also kind of agree with me in saying that they're, well, kind of..pointless? Do they eventually get deleted, or what?

maezee they do not break any of the dos and donts so if you
dislike them then bypass and find something else instead.at least'they are not one or two liners like some that will
eventually be delete. I did respond to that one about water
as at least itg was something I could sort of respond
to but its not the best way to make a discussion. I do'not use this type myself. I often use things that happen to me as I know nobody else had my particular happening and have someething people can relate to and respond to. I don't go so far as to say they are'pointless as they are usu ally in t he health interest so there will be people responding to them. but they do not give us much scope for discussing. yet as there a lot of mylotters here with all sort of different tastes who am I to say they are really pointless.
why should they be deleted. read the guidelines again and you will see that they break no rules. I do not make them but I do not like to dis people here either. why hurt peoples feelings just because the discussion does not suit either of our tastes?

If they have been copied from another website they will be deleted and some of them are just that. They are copied from other writing sites, or wikipedia, or even health sites. Those should be deleted.

Oh yes, there is a lot of pointless discussions here and sometimes I am guilty of this too. The discussions are as varied as the site's members. We have very highly intellectual members, not so intellectual ones and those in between. I suppose I belong to the middle ground. That is why we get all sorts of discussions here because of the variety of the members' backgrounds and origins.

I have to wonder if some of them might not be paragraphs copy and pasted from somewhere.. If so I'd have to call that cheating, so hopefully I'm wrong!

I see them from time to time. I do not usually have much have to say to discussions like that. Some of them may get deleted if they are plagiarized from other sites. I prefer discussions that have personal impact.

Yes I do notice such type of discussions here. And sometimes I do reply on some of it too as I feel they are not breaking the guidelines. If it's something where I can only say Thanks for the reminder I kinda skip it since I don't know how I'll be able to give some points if every points has been said and there's nothing to argue or discussed about. Sometimes informational type are okay especially those that I don't know of. But the ones that are known to most of us are something that we have to think whether there is a need to reply or not.

Maezee,
They may be purely "informational" discussions, and u might not find anything to respond to.But at the same time, i feel they are not pointless. It is up to you whether you respond to them or not.It doesn't affect anyone.May be his intention was to spread awareness or share his knowledge.Whatever, that is not is not against the guidelines. But posting a discussion pointing out particularly at someone, definitely affects the person who has posted it.If s/he takes it positively its fine, otherwise s/he might get hurt.Because there are some sensitive people here in mylot, who get hurt very easily.Hope you understand.Happy mylotting!

They annoy me too; because they give the impression that we are a bunch of dummies. And they are telling us, "we are smarter then you, " and it often appears that most of them come from a certain country (I will not tell the country, but it was one where quite a few talked about the danger of cell phone radiation and I figured well why have I not heard about many of them in hospitals with radiation poisoning because they use a lot of cell phones over there.) I do think discussions should be phrased in such a way so to make us not feel inadequate or being so stupid. For instance, whomever could have said, "I read that water helps you lose weight," or "someone wrote an article that the boasertr tree (made that up) causes one's nose to regrow and is used as a lie detector system. Then they can ask what we think or whether the plant, or water made an difference.
In other words, they should just take a part of what water or the boasetr tree does, and gradually give the infomration as commens on the responses.

Well, I haven't noticed one this evening, and I have a short memory. I don't know. There might be something useful on some of them. I'd have to go through and check on out for myself. You know alot of people like to just tell you what they know and then there are others who like for everyone to know that they know more or may want to let the one who started the discussion know that they don't know everything they thought they did. I know people like that. You know?

Hi there!
I would say that it's a discussion's creator way of getting his/her discussion a great impact to notice the discussion and get lots of comments.I mean it's their style maybe to get attention from commenters and get comments.I myself would browse for topics with interesting titles and it's up to you if you would continue reading and post your comment on that discussion. Some discussions or topics are deleted because they fail to obey myLot's rule in posting of a topic or discussion.Honestly i am receiving notifications from myLot stating my comment is deleted because the topic I commented to was also deleted =)) =))

Personally, I think it's against guidelines on this part
"Start a new discussion unless you have something of substance to say."
http://www.mylot.com/o/guidelines.aspx
Unless if they ask something that can be considered as discussion starter, such as "what do you think? and what kind of water that you like?" etc.
I will try to stay away from that kind of discussion as they have bigger chance to be deleted..
