Some people hate baking and making sweets ~ I LOVE it!

Most of my classmates hate making pastries and baking in general and it really shows especially when we where tasked to make simple breads(pandesal, milk bread, and Ensaymada) and cake on our past kitchen laboratory way back. They say "God it is so intensive, precise, and it lacks creativity because you have to follow a recipe/formula all the time I don't wanna be a slave to a recipe that would torture me I could have just bought some chocolate cake or cookie in the pastryshop." and my response to that "I think baking is relaxing when you get to understand it, you feel comfortable that you will get an exact and predictable result by following a recipe it makes my life easier no tweaking and adjusting and I am absolutely a slave to everything wonderful and delicious why wouldn't I." and they would go "pfff...now make me something sweet then " In our class only a few are talented/skilled on making sweets/pastries and it makes kinda sad (I think we are only 4 or 5 from different year levels).I'm not blaming them the school focuses on culinary and I have to admit baking needs discipline and accurateness to be executed properly and what i observe they trust there instinct and taste (they still follow the recipe of the dish but tries to make subs and a little changes) and i lack that because im so used on using recipes when cooking and baking and getting a predictable result which is okay I guess.Sometimes they envy me because i can make cakes and plated dessert with ease (not bragging lol),but I sometimes envy them more because of their delicious appetizer and main course wonderfully plated in front of our chef/professor(drolling) but im happy that i have studied baking in the comfort of my home using Ebooks books, and magazine its somewhat rewarding in the end.

Their loss! I used to bake and cook alot. All from scratch. Anything good is intensive and takes work.

Lol well i really cant say their loss as well because they make really delicious savory food but they lack spark for desserts and pastry. True everything that is good and wonderful needs time, effort, and work!

And when they are good they get eaten twice as fast! Then back to the baking

Well, let them be good at what they are good at. Don't mess with perfection.

It sounds like you are a good cook, for me even when I follow a recipe it doesn't come out the same as when others do it, I think you need to love cooking, I prefer store bought pastry and such.

I like baking too! I like the precision and figuring out thigns like what the best order to add ingredients is. To each his own, though. Lots of people I know like to cook and I don't really like to cook, so I guess it's even.

I love to bake, but with my husband being diabetic it is hard to make sweets. His blood sugars are getting under control, but they still need work. I am looking for recipes that diabetic friendly so he can have sweets, but not have all the sugars. Before his diabetes I used to bake sweets all the time and gave a lot away during Christmas.

I love baking vs. cooking! I make a terrific homemade crustless German cheesecake - with only five ingredients - it's very rich and wonderful! Also, I love making homemade cookies and brownies. I even found a recipe once for a "low ingredients" cookie that comes out wonderful when I am out of things like milk and such. You can always jazz up plain cookies with colored sprinkles or sugar - which I keep on hand.
