A lot of people don't like instrumentals. They say that it takes lyrics to "give the song meaning". I couldn't disagree more.
Instrumental music is like "modern art". It's not about asking "what does this song mean?" It's about feeling the meaning within you... and whatever the artist's meaning might have been is almost irrelevant.

I actually prefer instrumentals. Songs with lyrics can have mediocre music because it only has to support the vocalist while instrumentals have to express emotions and paint a landscape without the help of words. I think that people who say that music needs words to give it meaning are just trying to compensate for their lack of imagination or they are too lazy to interpret the music themselves.

I like instrumental music, it gives me different feelings. Listening to it gives me freedom to think of situations, scenery, or someone. It is soothing and ideal also for relaxations. I don't know how could anyone hate such lovely pieces of art. Only few artist are making true music today, majority are just forgettable.

Music does have meaning beyond words. It inspires us to move, or sometimes it leads us to rest. How I hear it may be different from how you hear it. Music does not have to have words and if someone really listens they can appreciate the artistry of each instrument involved and how they work together.

That is why I enjoy (even cry) at listening to Opera Arias when I do not understand the language but the music I can physically feel it coursing through my body. My ex husband had a very successful band ( I was lucky enough to travel for 6 years all through Europe with him and his band) he was the drummer and the audience loved his drum solos and I loved it when he would also privately play piano concertos for me.

I totally agree. Anyone that says a song has to have lyrics to give it meaning hasn't truly listened to any of the works by the great composers such as Bach, Mozart, Handel, Beethoven, Brahms, Vivaldi and the list goes on.
A piece of music does not need words to move a person emotionally. Even in modern day musical composition, one need only think of some of the music in movies and how it can set the mood or add to the dramatic moment to move the viewer.
Music is a pure form of artistic expression that can give great pleasure to the listener and not having words doesn't detract from that at all, indeed, it may be better.

I love instrumental music. It can be so powerful and moving. Anything from orchestral music to house or trance electronic music. Sometimes it's easier to focus on the music when there aren't any lyrics to distract from it.
Even when I'm listening to music with lyrics, I sometimes ignore the voice and listen to the music underneath it.

i cant agree more, take the piano, depending how it is played it can make the person feel happy sad or angry. lyrics arnt needed. if they were then why dont the soundtracks for films have vocals in them. why dont the build up for a scary moment have some guy going " dun dun dunnnnn" ? it would ruin the mood. music is all about the feeling, not the lyrics

I do not think that instrumental takes the meaning of the song away.If you try to listen and also take to put you in it.You will find that there are something that also in the music.Music is such a magic and people all love that.
