Reading and taking an interest in books is very essential and this should be carefully developed by the parents in their children while they are still young.Besides reading to them , one can also gift them books for special occasions , so that they collect books and take an interest in reading...
Friends , Please add your own views on the subject of books and reading .Do you feel that it is still essential or...

When you will give your food to some one you loose it.
When you will give your money to some one you loose it.
But
When you will give your study/knowledge to others it is doubled. That is the importance of education.

Hi ramesh, thanks a lot for your response
Education is no doubt very important, but unfortunately it has become a commercial proposition now with a definite goal of earning and bettering ones prospect with giving any importance or value to the Aesthetic side....Also not all the educated people are book lovers nor do they develop a reading habit - this has to be either cultivated or is inherent in an individual..all the best and happy mylotting

As far as my opinion is concerned, this is a great idea for kids to be engaged in reading activities. It's one excellent way for them to be immersed in reading and find the appreciation for the books, and for them to discover how much reading will help them a lot, in so many different ways. Personally, I would still love to receive books for gifts. I already get very much happy when I receive this kind of gifts. I hope more people will still find the good things of having books around you in your every day lives. :)

I dont think it is just any book. I think you need to figure out what their interests are and find a book that appeals to their interests. Someone who likes mysteries or horrors wouldn't like books like Diary of Wimpy Kid or something. I used to love reading books, but if I couldn't get interested in the novel I couldn't read it, I still can't.

Hi soulist, thanks a lot for your response
. As a mother and a teacher I can say that, children when they are very young are yet to develop any kind of keen interest in reading material except probably pictures. But when they are provided with a variety of books and guided to take an interest in reading they begin to have a definite leaning towards certain kinds of books. At this stage it is important that parents take an interest and provide quality reading material that would help them in developing a well balanced personality...All the best and happy mylotting

I agree with you totally Kiran! But, only when the parents have a good reading habit they think in these lines and would even opt for a gift of books to their near and dear ones .Many parents do not have it and they expect their children to have it. They opt to sit in front of their television and expect children to get into their rooms with books[my bitter experience with many parents is speaking so loudly

Hi kala, that's very true ! Gandhiji rightly said ' you educate a boy you educate an individual, you educate a girl you educate an entire generation...I also agree with your parent children experience - I have seen many such model parents who don't even bother to look at the diary of the child which teachers painstakingly update with important events, home work ,study routine etc;It is somehow very frustrating to think that parents could be so negligent towards their children ..

Hello Kiran ji, I like to read books. I think books best way of time passing and gaining knowledge as well. Any habit in child can be developed from childhood. So I agree with you that parents must be encourage their child to read books. They also gift them books according to their age.

Hi kiran,
Books are wonderful things that we all should have in our lives. I remember how I would spend hours reading, forgeting to do homework and had lunch and lived my life in the magical world of whatever book I was reading. The benefits of reading are endless and we can introduce books to kids when they are very young. I think it is wonderful to give books to children.

It was the same with me, I would lose myself completely when I had a few books and when I look back, I realise that I was never bored anytime during my growing years nor for that matter now....I agree that children should be introduced to books right from the time they are able to focus and concentrate...

Hi adhyz, reading is a habit that has to come naturally, when parents are interested in books and reading and buy books, children automatically take an interest too..It need not be a challenging job to make your children develop the reading habit.Every book is interesting and once you begin to read you will want to read everything...thanks a lot for your response and all the best

As they've said, Book is a great gift that one could ever give. I still recall that when I was little my mom gave me a story book. That's the one book that she given to me. As a mother, I would consider a book as a treasure that I could gave to my son. I would really be glad if someone will give my son a gift. If a child will be hooked in reading it would be his greatest advantage.

Hi cqe, thanks a lot for sharing your views
I agree with what you say.In my own case I remember every incident from my childhood connected with books and still laugh
when I think of the fights I would have with my brother over reading Enid Blyton books borrowed from the library.Later it was Perry Mason, Chase and so on...I hardly hear of children going to libraries these days, in fact where are the libraries? they are all closing down since they have no customers...Sad state of affairs
