Okay...I don't know what was happening but I was writing and suddenly my screen was getting line after line of plodded and minuses like this: ++++++++++++++++++++++ and this: +-+-+- I shut my computer down and tried to restart it and it wouldn't start. Al it did was alarm and it went: ding ding ding really loud and fast. Then when I managed to do a Windows fix on it it said my anti virus was shut off. I didn't shut it off so I don't understand that. I have running a scan and already there are 40 threats and counting that ate getting contained or fixed or whatever. I pay for an anti virus so I don't know how this happened. Anyone had this happen to them? Please share.

When was last time you updated your Virus protection? There are several hundred new virus introduced daily so it is possible that one of them got through your firewall and turned off your virus protection. I run the free version of Avast along with the firewall that comes with Windows 7. these seem to work well, Avast updates it's database of virus daily and sometimes more. To download the free Avast just type in www.avast.com and follow the instructions.

yes many times. at least once or twice a year, i get warnings, etc. or have to check it and clean up. i think mcCafree is best but even it doesnt always catch all. i had norton for a few yrs. it was pretty expansive and still i got to many viruses and so did my daughter on that. so i switched. and so did she. ive been online for about 20 yrs now.

I had McAfee when my laptop crashed the last time. I don't know what is going on but if you go to the first response to that jerk you will see what it was doing. Now it won't even go online. I unhooked it to take to my son in law to look at it and it says no Internet now. We have wifi. It should work but now it's not. Son in law is trying to see what is wrong but if he can't fix it I'll have to take it to the shop.

Some viruses once they are on a system will actively disable the antivirus system so it can cause more damage and problems. There are also viruses that masquerade as antivirus software...And then programs like norton or mcafee allow them to run. They come through a website and dont require any permission to "install" and then they just pop up saying you have so many viruses...And start disabling programs you use ona regular basis. The longer the virus is active the more things go "missing" or can not be turned on.

Paying for the anti-virus doesn't say much. 99% of the viruses out there are from the actual anti-virus software companies. Be sure that at their next patch they will "cover" those threats you have Now now, one "virus" got in you undetected, shut down the anti-virus and let the other little guys come in!

Now I can't even get on the Internet with it. I'm on my iPhone now. I have a spare laptop to use so I can take that one to the shop.

Hola It is a kind of virus might be and try to save of your work or data. Shift it immediately before the whole virus get eat your data and destroy your system completely, it is better to rescue than just think of problem where got started. I suggest you to use a good antivirus, unlimited edition , full version because it is will strong foundation to protect your computer. The antivirus will suggest you to continue surf or just back off. It is a good adviser of computer or laptop too.It will help look after your computer like a safety guard and against the virus and immediately inform if attack by virus or any suspicious.

It's okay now. It was the mouse causing all that plus and minus signs. Son in law removed the mouse and the laptop worked perfectly. Put the mouse back on and it acted up again. I put the mouse on my other laptop and it acted up also. Strange but true. It was the mouse doing it.

I think I had this happen to me before when I was using Norton. I paid for it also. I will never use or trust them ever again. I like Microsoft Security Essentials. I trust them and they are FREE.

hi dear PQ, I am anything but a computer whizz so I cant help you out on that, really sorry. But we are in the same boat. Had a computer virus yesterday, must have come from a paid mail so I lost over one hour of internet time as I waited for hubby to come home and fix it and then some more time until the computer was good to use again. Sigh. It was a brand new virus hitting my laptop and now I am even more frantically trying my best to play catch up with stuff again.

I got it started again. It might have been that defective mouse driver that was messing it up, because that is when everything happened and acted like a virus. It's all fine now. I got a different mouse in my laptop now and it is working perfect too.
