I have a nasty Cold

Apparently there is a nasty cold going around and I and everyone in my house has it. I can't seem to kick it. I called my friend a couple of days ago and he said that the best thing to do would be to take a shot of whiskey, so I took two and went to sleep and woke up the next morning with my sinuses cleared up, but my cold in my chest remained. So I called my mom and she said to take some Alka Seltzer cold and flu, so I took them. It still did not clear me up I've been taking them for like 3 days and even though yesterday I felt ok, today is a total different story. I woke up this morning to go to classes at 10 but felt too bad and went back to sleep until 2pm I slept like a total of 14 hours. Still I don't feel better. I have no clue what in the world more I can do further than drinking only ginger ale and eating crackers. I am trying to keep my appetite up but I just really don't feel like eating that much. I am really tired and have terrible chest congestion. I am just really really tired and feel like I could sleep another day or two just to kick it. If anyone knows of any home remedies please respond and let me know. I really feel terrible, just some pointers on how else to kick this thing. Thanks to everyone for your help in advance.

Try also a citrus fruit diet. Oranges, guava (reccommended) anything that are citurs type can help kick out your cold.

This is very helpful . Steam inhalation helps a lot . Whenever I get a bad cold followed by congestion I always take this and inhale some drops of the pungent mustard oil along with it . It simply works wonder . I think you should try this and follow the rest as vanakam4 says .

Colds and flu are also epidemic in our place since the weather suddenly became hot as it's already summer, whew! I just had flu for the past 5 days, and then now these sore throat, cough and colds are making feel blue all day I think it wouldn't be this bad if only I had enough sleep during the past 2 weeks. I kinda slept 4-5 hours each night and I'm sure that contributed to having weakened my immune system. So hot now, and it's terrible being sick but I'm glad I get to read the suggestions/advices from other mylotters in this discussion. Thanks!

Thank you for posting this topic. My colds just started yesterday with a headache and a painful throat. Now I have a confirmed colds which gives congestion in my breathing. I only feel relieved every time I sneeze that my head feels light so with my chest due to heavy sneezing. I just rub my chest and neck with an amazing herbal rub that smells with orange. It is so refreshing.

I also use those things which are mentioned when I get cold. Ginger, lemon and garlic are very useful, they help fighting with bacteria and boost our immune systems. Raw onions are good too. If you have cough, you can use the dry skin of the onion to make tea if you boil it in water for a few minutes. It's a well known remedy where I live and it really helped me with the cough many times. I add a little cinnamon and honey for better taste. Get better soon!

Mostly cold are viruses so, it means there is no way to treat them with medication but only to help your body fight the virus. Gargling can moisten a sore throat and bring temporary relief. Try a teaspoon of salt dissolved in warm water, four times daily. Hot liquids relieve nasal congestion.
