We feel better by choosing to always do things the same way?
And you, routine help or bother you?
We establish habits, sometimes without realizing it. For that we need a ritual because it's in our nature to align ourselves with a template that gives us a sense of stability?

There are sometimes where a routine can really be a good thing, but there are times where a routine really can be rather stifling to us. Many of us live a life with a pat hand, where a lot of what happens every day is rather similar, almost down to the exact moment where pretty much each and everything as it does pretty much every day.
Granted, sometimes that is just the best way. I do try and switch up some things when I can. Variety is in fact the spice of life. It is really just something that allows me to step back, with a bit of a smile right to my face, and really pushes me through the day. Of course there is a fine balance between routine and things going rather crazy and dynamic.

The routine way of life is quite often dull and monotonous. It is in change and novelty that the adventure of life is based .Without a little bit of change, the entire existence seems to spoiled and wasted.

Hi Didi,
I really don't like routine except for in my job. I like my set schedule for work. I work 4 days and get all my hours in and then have 3 days off. Maybe it is just the routine that I have that I wish were a little less hectic. I have very small windows of time to do things that I need or want to get done. My youngest daughter is in highschool and she only goes in for a couple of hours a day and not during hours when busses are running. So I run her in and then pick her up a couple of hours later. And then there is a couple of hours to spare before I pick up my grandson and watch him until 9pm. My day is so broken up that in the windows of time that I do have, I pretty much have just enough time to shower and run to the grocery store and maybe get a couple of things done around the house. IT is what it is. I can't and wouldn't change it for anything. I love that I can spend time with my grandson and my watching him helps my daughter out so that she can work. I can't and wouldn't dream of denying my younger daughter rides to school. She is a good kid and her education is important. Ugh...just wish there were more time in the day or that we could wipe out the need for sleep.

Routine for me helps a lot as it makes work easier, but sometimes boredom sets in as doing things over and over again, day in and day out, lol! And with routine work, the chances of having mistakes are quite slim, and i can even do my work with my eyes closed, lol! Anyway as you said it is a template of doing things easier.

Creating a routine can help you avoid unnecessary stress. Why would be thinking everyday how to do something when you could just do it as you always do and use that time to prepare for the day ahead?
People most often find routines to be dull and boring, I'm sure couples suffer from that all the time, but they actually help you see beyond the excitement, the rush of the moment.
They say you live for the moments that take your breath away, those are spontaneous, but if that's all you care about you'll never have any stability in your life.

I like to have 5 days of the week be the same, so that its easy to get everything that needs to be done completed. Two of the week I like to have fun and relax. Its good to take a break from a routine occasionally or it would get boring.

I guess we all have a sense of routine embedded in ourselves and consisting of things we are getting used to do starting with the first years of our lives and continuing with other habits we acquire, consciously or not, throughout our existence. All these routines may have a positive role in our lives up to a certain point because they give us a sense of comfort and safety, but the problem appears when we're getting so used with routines that we fall into a state of complacency which may become an obstacle in our evolution, diminishing our desire our desire to do new things and to explore unknown territories. That's why I think that whenever we are given the chance to try new things in our lives and even make some changes in our lives we should accept the challenge and go for it.Anyway,if we always stick to our routine and refuse trying new things we might end up prisoners of our own routines, unable to adapt ourselves to changes,so let's not be afraid to try something new from time to time.

At my age, routine keeps my memory sharper. Plus, it's easier for me to get to work in the mornings with a certain routine considering I work from home. Up at five, coffee going, drink coffee, check email, get dressed, go out for a breakfast to bring home, get back, pour more coffee, eat while scanning news on the internet, then get to work - by seven a.m. Finish by noon. Then I'm free to be un-routined the rest of the day lol!

I think all of us have some wort of routine in our lives sometimes without even realizing it. I do like to have a routine in my daily life since it keeps everything organized and lets me get everything done in a timely manner and efficiently also.

As someone who used to work 5-9, Mon-Fri and has now been changed to 19 1/2 hours, usually but not always Wed-Fri, I can definitely agree that routine gives us stability. I can't plan ahead, and it drives me nuts. My sleeping is all over the place as I have to be up early when I'm working but like to sleep til 9-10 if I'm not as it makes the day shorter and less boring if I've nothing to do.
I also have set ways of going about the housework and the order I do things in and if I don't get things done on my time, in my way, I get quite frustrated!
