Yesterday, my friends and I went to a shabu shabu restaurant. We ordered some pork dish. We were served with a plate full of raw and thinly sliced pork meat, fresh cut vegetables such as cabbages, carrots and some green Chinese vegetable. There were also mushrooms, tofu and some noodle. There were two types of sauce: one was soy sauce which tasted a little sour and another sauce which tasted like combined peanut butter and miso soup. The taste was nothing like I had tried before. The meat tasted great especially with the sauce. Better since it is hot off the boiling pot. When eating shabu shabu, you have to boil the ingredients in the pot for a few seconds or minutes then you can take is out once it's cooked and you can eat it right away. There were side dishes like the macaroni salad. We were very full eating all that but then the waitresses came to us if we wanted udon noodle on miso soup or some rice mixed together with the soup on the boiling pot. Haha and the desserts were fruits like pineapple and watermelon. I ate a lot yesterday I was afraid I couldn't move anymore. That was one time I really didn't regret spending my money on a meal like that. That night, as I was trying to sleep the image of the food keep flashing in my mind. I wanted to eat again! Are you willing to spend 10 dollars or more for such a meal?

Yes and No. It really depends on the place. I love Japanese stake house but it does get expensive so we pick a certain night to go and normally order something on the low side if we can. Deliver food I can get for $10 because other wise they won't bring it to you unless you pick it up. I normally go for something with chicken in and rice or some times just some noodles.

for a once in a lifetime experience with shabu shabu, i think 10 dollars is a good price. too bad we can't spend that much amount on one meal everyday.

Every know and them spending a little extra on something you like is okay. You can always learn how to make what you like at home. Although some times its not quite the same in taste but it can come close. I do pretty well with home made teryokiy chicken.

For me, it's worth the price not only because of the taste but also the nutritional value. Japanese foods are served fresh and almost complete or let say posses a balance diet so it's very good for our health. Love shabu shabu, and try to attend a yakiniku party one time so you can experience to taste all kinds of barbequed meat

Hi Aja!!! By the sound of it, I'm willing to spend much money on that kind of food! You sounded like you enjoyed it a lot and the food was so delicious so I think it was worth your money. And $10 I think, is cheap considering it wasn't a meal good for one. I would have spent that much, too on that kind of food! Where is that restaurant? I wanna try it!

haha, i live in cebu city. so we ate at a shabu shabu in IT park, lahug. cebu. at first, it was so hard to find, we had to ask a lot of guards just to tell us where we can find it. we had to walk all the way there from the entrance. the place was small and situated between two large buildings. located behind another bigger restaurant. if we had not asked, we would never have found it.

Japanese food isn't as common as Chinese or Vietnamese food... personally, I would probably prefer to get Italian food...

It depends what kind of restaurant is that and how worth it is. If that is eat all you can then that is really possible. If that is Japanese meal then I believe it is worth as long as it is really delicious.

no, it's not an eat all you can. and you probably can't eat anymore than the amount they have served... unless if you are a bottomless pit. i heard eat 'all you cans' for jap and korean food cost more than 1000 pesos. that's like 400 dollars or more.

Yeah for sure! That sounds like a really great deal for a meal! We have a Chinese/Japanese place over here, and you pay £10 and it’s all you can eat, for as long as you can eat, which is also very good. I think any meal under £15 is a bargain for sure!! Especially if it’s really nice and you’d go back!

well i'm in the uk.. so our japanese/chinese food is probably a european version, and nothing like the real stuff!

Yeah, the meal was not an eat all you can. but, there was too much food on the table anyway, i was so full in the middle of eating the meal. and then i had to gobble down the rest of the food served like the soup, noodle and the fruits. hehe, if i had ordered rice, i would have burst! yeah, i wish i was really in Japan so i could eat the original japanese created food. it was only around our city that i got to eat at a shabu shabu. it's a famous place recommended by many people. so we had to try it out.

Generally, the Japanese food is quite expensive. But according to what you said, you were really lucky to spend 10 dollars for such a delicious Japanese meal. Honestly, I am willing to pay more than this amount on a Japanese meal. It is not because I can afford it, it is because I don't live where you live, which you can find such a good bargain. Hmmm....my mouth is watering......

In my country $10 for a meal would be really cheap. In one of Japanese restaurants in Copenhagen the cheapest meal costs about $60. One of the other main courses in that restaurant costs about $120 I would like to eat Japanese food, but I can't afford that. Even if I had the money I don't think that I would be willing to pay that much for a single meal. Japanese restaurants are expensive compared the the other international restaurants in my country, so I prefer to eat at one of those restaurants instead for instanse one of the Chinese or Vietnamese restaurants.

okay. then i suggest you come to my country, Philippines. Here, there are many foreigners who enjoy the restaurants and hotel. they cost much less than other countries, though the quality may not be as good. some say the service and goods are mediocre while others say it is great and worth the price.

Japanese food is really a bit expensive especially if you eat the authentically prepared ones. I mean, there are Japanese food that you can buy cheap but I don't think they taste as good and as fresh as those served in real Japanese restaurants. And I'm the kind of person who would pay for a 10-dollar meal as long as it is something that I love eating and the food itself is worth paying that amount. I actually think you had a very good deal. You paid $10 for all those food? I mean, that's really a lot, and to think that it's Japanese food as well.

It is quite a lot. Now I am forced to use my saved money 'till my next pay day. -sigh- It was great, the food was, but i was so careless in spending that money so suddenly. I agree. Japanese cuisine is something prepared so carefully. It also requires a lot of ingredients which is probably why it is so expensive!

If it is just for myself, I won't go buy it. But if that amount can feed at least three persons, I'd go for it. I am much of a thrifty and practical person so I won't go for buying it unless I have lots of money and I am really hungry... I am a Filipina and I still enjoy foods in my country. Well, there are foods in the Philippines which came from different countries but I don't usually take time to purchase it, unless my friends or relatives said it was good.

actually 10 dollars is only for one person. but if you have typical stomach capacity like mine, then your stomach would burst after eating all the meal served. i actually thought 10 dollars was for a group of people. but no. people pay this price individually. it's usually like this when it comes to korean and japanese food.

Try it, at least once in your life. It's a good experience to be able to get a taste of different foods from different countries. This is one of my dreams actually. hehe, like an international food trip.
