My grandson found a gold ring while walking with his mother. His mother took it to the pawn shop. She got $85 for it! Pure 14K gold. So I think it pays to keep our eyes to the ground. And the pumps and bruise we might get from waling into trees and such really makes it all worth while when you find stuff like this. Huh? Have you made some unexpected money somewhere recently?

Well that was a very lucky find for him! $85.00 isn't bad to gain for that either. The only thing I can think of is when I get extra hours at work,or when I came back to earning online a few months ago and noticed my paypal had a payment from triond I wasn't expecting. It wasn't much but a nice surprise either way.

this happened to me twice; i was waiting for my payroll, and i'm expecting my weekly salary show up on my bank account. i was surprised that the money i am expecting double it's amount. maybe someone in the accounting department made a mistake. i didn't report that incident, but they never told me anything about accidentally doubling my salary.

My father in law is a janitor at a high school. He keeps a lost and found and the kids all know that at the end of a grading period he will toss what is still there. He takes anything of value down to the pawn shop each time and has actually been able to take very nice vacations from the stuff sold there! You would be surprised the items, Ipods, jewelry, money even a couple lap tops.

How I wish I am lucky enough to do that as well. But then of course as much as possible if I found one and as long as I know who is the owner of course I would return it. But then if I know the owner is not looking anymore and it is already impossible that he can turn then that is the time that I am going to take it.

Yeah thank goodness there wasn't any money in it, you'd have stolen it, did you return the wallet? Give it to the bus driver? Great character you have.

Yes in the middle of a school parade. Many students are there and we are about to cross the street, I was with my friend we are in a hurry because the parade is heading from us. When suddenly I felt that I have something that I stepped on. I saw that there is 300 pesos in the ground that I have stepped on. I hurry picked it up and I was looking around to see if someone is looking for the money. My friend told me keep it you never know who it might belong. I pity him/her for the lost of his money.

How lucky is your grandson. However, I also feel bad for the owner especially if it has some sentimental value. Anyway, Like I've said, Your grandson is lucky to find a 14k ring. Probably the biggest item I found laying on the ground was a 100 pesos ( equivalent to $2) or just a fake ring. Hahaha.

I have alot of experience with finding stuff. My daughter found a$20 bill just outside our door. She asked all over if anyone had lost any money. Nope! We thought it was the lady next door's but she wouldn't take it. She has also found money in parking lots at the Fiddler's contest and such. Always have been lucky finding stuff. This ring was inbedded down in the earth and looked as if it had been there for a long, long time. If it was just laying out we would have taken it to the authoriities.

We normally find something like that and turn it into the police. If no one claims it, then we get to keep it. Our pawn shops make us sign a statement saying that the item is in fact ours. Hopefully that ring was not part of a robbery where someone dropped afterward and they trace it back to you guys. Hopefully, too, someone hasn't reported it missing and the police go to the pawn shop to look for it.

My wedding ring is gold. So is my husbands. It doesn't take long for a ring to get covered with dirt outdoors. I would like to think that if a ring that wass $84 at a pawn shop, it must be worth a lot because the pawn shop will sell it for more than that, that someone would try the police first. So what's the statue of limitations on theft, robbery, etc in your area? 3 years, 5 years? So how many years do you think it was left there? I'm former corrections, I can think of people doing time for less. Plus in my area, the pawn shops are checked by the cops quite often. We had a string of 21 robberies in my area. This is a bad year for theft, esp. gold and copper. I'm also a teacher and I don't think that teaches the kid anything, but finders keepers, loosers, weapers. If it was my wring, I would want someone to try to get it back to me. Not pawn it. But it does depend. I flushed a ring down a TOILET when a no good multiple-timing bum had given me it as an engagement ring. That ring I never wanted to see again.

Yes, you explained in other responses that is was covered by dirt. So when the police ask you how he found it, it was covered by dirt. So how did he see it? Was he digging for it or was it partially exposed. You'd better get your story straight. But it depends on the pawn shop. In our area, they require you give your address and ID before they take anything. They don't want to take the heat from the police for anything that may have been reappropriated.

If it was just laying around we usually do that too. But I have explained that several times in other responses. There you go with that imagination of yours. lol

Gosh no...no unexpected money for me...lol. I was watching a news story one time about a family that went out and hunted lost change. They were making quite a bit extra per month from doing that. I can't remember the numbers but it was pretty substantial.

You seem to becoming defensive that people are saying that you did the wrong thing by making money off of lost the jewelry, I say that because of your comment above saying that you already explained why you didn't turn it in. I still think it was wrong of them to not turn it in, it being covered just says that it was probably walked over or covered up because of the weather.

reading this, maybe I should start walking with my eyes fixed to the ground, but won't it go against the rule on how to maintain a good posture?. Nope no luck so far but still hoping I could pick up something like that " finders keepers"
