Hi friend! I've experienced the same thing with your friend but it's not that I don't have to eat rice. I am allowed to eat rice but no meat. I can only eat seafoods and veggies as my meal and with rice. I am also not allowed to eat dairies like cakes and ice creams and this diet frustrated me much! I love cakes, lol! And that diet of mine is for 6 months not just one week! But I'm happy to say that I was able to do it asliah. I wanted to get cured so I did it! It took me a lot of discipline in food and I am thankful that my family supported me with this diet. They don't let me see tempting foods, lol!

Hi mtrguanlao, I agree that it takes real discipline to control diabetes. I've seen this a lot of times from my father who is restricting himself to eat the foods that he loves. But you know what, I can now give him sweet food shakes without worrying about his blood sugar. Because really, blood sugar doesn't only depends on how sweet the food we eat is but how low its glycemic index is. Take for example the sugar and honey. We can consume same level of sweetness from both separately but the result will be different in our sugar levels. Because honey has lower GI compared to table sugar. I know this kind of food shake that is really low GI which makes it very healthy alternative and still a sweet way to watch our diet. I'm not sure if you'll be interested about this but I'm willing to guide you in their office at Makati. I just want to share the blessing that I had for my father with others who are suffering in diabetes too. Because I know how my father struggled and did his best just to survived and spend more of his time to be with us, his family.

Hi aeisle! Thank you for sharing your father's experience but I don't have diabetes. But my father has diabetes. And yes,my father is lucky to eat some sweet foods not so often. He's taking some medicines for maintenance of his blood sugar. The food shake you're saying is great! How's the taste?

I see, my father is taking maintenance as well but I'm also giving him supplements that were good for his total body nutrition needs and also to control his blood sugar. With regards to the food shake, the first time I've tasted it (Well because I'm also curious about it ), Wow! You may say that I'm over reacting but it does really taste that great! So good that I almost hesitated to let my father drink it because of our usual belief that sweet foods were not good for diabetics. But its really safe because it a Low GI food. I've also heard from my friends, they often described it that it tastes like ice cream.

I am a vegetarian and I think I will survive if that's the case. But maybe it will be hard also because I always eat cooked rice.I used to eat three times a day and it would be a great sacrifice but if it is for my health then I will sacrifice to be a vegetarian and fruits eater perhaps.

I donĀ“t like cleansing diets. I am more a believer of eating a well balanced meal with a bit of everything and not too much of any one food. Every person I know that follows a difficult diet will eat twice as much after the diet to compensate for the suffering.

I haven't tried the cleansing yet but i would surely love to do that. I think i can survive without rice at all as well as meat. I would eat sea food and lots of fruits though.

I haven't tried cleansing diets yet though I want to. Probably after I gave birth. Although my mother-in-law is doing a cleansing diet at this moment. She is only drinking a mixture of fruits for breakfast, lunch, dinner. It was advised to her by her doctor and was to take it for 3 days only. So far she survived the first two days. And she said she feels light weight.

Hi asilah, Sometime back I had started a discussion on a similar subject - about fruit and vegetable diet .I like salads and given an opportunity will very happily eat only salads made with vegetables, sprouts and fruits the entire day.I have had only salads, soups and fruit/vegetable juices and never felt the need to have either rice or rotis...It is also excellent for our health ,skin and hair.I think that is reason enough to go for it - all the best and happy mylotting

If you're used to eating almost anything that can eaten for a good part of your life then chances are you'll have a hard time going into a diet. But eating what the doctor advised isn't impossible either but your body needs to adjust first. It would be more of a punishment if your used to eating meat and stop it altogether. Eating in moderation is the key I think, after all you wouldn't get that fat with just a blink of an eye.

She can follow what her doctor said,I think, and then check the result six days latter, whether the blood sugar descends. Theoretically this is a valid method for her situation. Only eating fruits, vegetables and degreased milk is sufficient for one's fundamental metabolic activities. But this calls for persistence. wish your friend successful.

Hi asliah, Personally, its really hard to make that diet of fruits and vegetables only. By simply eating "Gulay" alone with rice makes me feel hungry so fast. So I've always felt that I need to eat meat so I wont feel hungry for longer times. However, recently I've learned about this Glycemic index. It's the measurement on how long will it take for that food before it can be converted into sugar and consumed for energy. So in short, Low Glycemic foods are healthier and more effective in making a good diet. This really did help me a lot because my father is also a diabetic. So you see, I'll be willing to be of help and share this to you if you are interested so we could even save your young friend and help her control blood sugar in a more convenient and sweeter way.

So we can also consider cleansing diet as vegetarian way of eating (but perhaps without rice included)? :p I am pretty sure I can survive, but I don't want to do it in 7 consecutive days :P

Hi asliah, Nope, I've never tried a cleansing diet but by all accounts it is something that most of us should do as it is good for the liver especially. I'm not a huge rice eater, I do like meat but am sure I could live without it for a week. I don't drink milk (unless I can make a smoothie or milkshake with it) as I just don't like the taste. A fruit and veg diet for a week would be hard for me but I know if I put my mind to it, I could do it. It's the giving up coffee I'd find the hardest.... IrishGal77 :)
