Cinnamon Buns are so hard to make! :-(

Hubby just love those sweet, sticky buns, he's always talking about them, and wanting me to make them, so over the past few years I been trying to make them but they don't rise and they hard as rocks. I even put yeast in them. Anyway, I went to Joyofbaking.com to see if they had any of those "tested" recipes and didn't find any tested recipe but found one with a video, so hopefully that'll work.

I could never make good cinnamon buns either, so I'm of no help whatsoever! Mine were always like yours, hard. I used a yeast bread recipe always and they still didn't rise right. I hope the recipe with a video works. If it does, come back and tell us.

This recipe I'm looking at is calling for electric beater with a certain type of paddle attachment, all the recipes I come across seem to assume everyone has electric beaters. Me, I do everything the old fashioned way, everything's done by hand, and I very rarely touch my beaters (it's a hand electric beater). I even mash my potatoes with a hand potato masher. Anyway, I don't know, let's see what happens, I suppose, I know i'll have to do a lot of improvising. I don't like kitchen gadgets at all, they're too cumbersome an take up a lot of room, and plus my arms are stronger since I do everything all my bread kneading, etc by hand.

I do everything by hand, too! I even have an old fashioned egg beater that I use instead of an electric one, but even then, I sometimes use a whisk. I don't like "mashed" potatoes done in a blender. They're more liked mushed potatoes to me.
I also knead everything by hand. I have a good blender and that's about it. Everything else I do with manual tools.
Do let us know how the recipe/method works out.

Yes, I'll let y'all know. I don't have the hand beater but I do have a large whisk and a small whisk, I like using them a lot. I use a whisk for any liquid-type batters like cake batters and pancake batters.

I have not made them in years, but I had pretty good luck. I think the recipe I used was called sticky buns.

Ya, I think they're also called sticky buns, well, they are indeed sticky LOL. I'll try to improvise with this recipe that I got from joyofbaking.com as it calls for using electric beater with paddle attachment, which I'm finding quite strange, I mean how did people make such luscious buns back in the old days, LOL Anyway it'll be a good experience for sure.

I've never truly made them from scratch. I've always bought them from one of those tubes w/ the frosting included or pre-made from the bakery section in the store. You know my mom used to take biscuits and flatten them out, spead some margerine on them, and then sprinkle w/ large amount of cinnamon and sugar, nestle in a pan and bake. That's as close to scratch as I've ever done but you know if you eat them when they are fresh out of the oven they are good, but like anything they can get very hard if overdone.

That also sounds like a lovely idea, so I'll be looking in to how to make biscuits as well. I know Hubby wanted me to learn how to make biscuits a few years back, I think over five years ago, but I do remember him telling me a few times back then how he loved eating biscuits and wanted me to make them. Perhaps that's an idea I'll keep in the back of my mind once I learn how to make them. I know you can experiment with all kinds of flavours from sweet to savoury, too! And I know my spices and herbs :-)

I love them too but, although I´m a fairly good cook, I have passed with them after reading the recipe. I feel it´s to hard to do so I prefer to buy them once in a while as a very special treat.

Im so sorry to hear about your failures in making cinnabuns, I always loved them especially when paired with tea or something like coffee(sadly i don't drink coffee).Im just curious why all your recipe calls for a beater because i have done so many cinnamonbuns/cinnabuns for a while now and they dont call for beaters I do it with hands
and they are soft and delicious with a sticky bottom...delicious.Usually the dough calls for butter to be mixed into the dough soft or melted so literally i get a brioche dough and its soft...
sadly my brother accidentally deleted the recipe while cleaning for space .... now im searching the net
