Addicted to Sweet Tea Switching to Green Tea

I am from the South and I grew up drinking sweet tea. I have been drinking it for as long as I can remember. If I don't drink it I honestly go into withdrawl. My mouth gets dry and no matter how much water I drink it still does not quench my thirst. I am trying to wean myself from sweet tea. I have found some very interesting articles online about green tea. It seems to have less caffeine than the black tea and of course it is high in antioxidants. On my next grocery shopping trip I am going to purchase green tea and give it a try. I really need to stop drinking so much of the sweetened tea that I normally do. I also plan to sweeten with honey instead of with sugar. Anyone else here addicted to something that is not healthy for you? Does anyone have any experience with green tea and what are your thoughts on it?

I have always drunk "sweet" tea but my mother and now I used artificial sweeteners. I have drunk green tea, maybe I just don't have a "discerning" taste, but it tastes the same to me. I like to make flavored iced teas, like Constant Comment or mint flavored iced teas - very tasty! Oh, and there's a hibiscus/mint that is REALLY yummy and its actually not "tea" because it doesn't have any tea in it.

I love my tea sweetened but do also like green tea. I made some cold green tea the other day and of course added sugar to it. It wasn't bad at all. I am addicted to coke but am trying to get away from it.

I am so fortunate not to be addicted to soft drinks. I will drink one every once in a while but they are not something that I crave or even have to have. If we go out and a restaurant does not have tea I will usually order water. Often times the carbonization gives me heart burn too. I try to stay away from it. For some odd reason I like to drink a Pepsi every now and again when I am eating popcorn. The two just go good together. When I am drinking mixed drinks I like to mix Southern Comfort with Mountain Dew. Needless to say, I hardly ever drink soft drinks!

I am cutting back more all the time. A 12 pack will last me almost a week now. Most of that goes in with my rum. I am drinking less coffee also. I know once summer gets here I will be drinking water and tea. I don't need the other stuff. Keep your fingers crossed that I can do this.

It has been two years now that I switch to drinking tea rather than coffee. My body cannot tolerate the amount of caffeine that coffee has. And when drinking tea, I don't usually put sugar or something sweet on it. Instead, I add a couple of mint leaves or squeeze a little lemon or orange. With regard to green tea, I'm starting to like it already. It has a lighter taste compared to black tea.

I rarely drink coffee anymore. I just cannot take the caffeine either. I wish I could get away from the sugar habit. I need to look for more natural alternative than regular process white sugar. Thanks for stopping by.

I like the green tea and honey that Arizona makes. It is nowhere near as sweet as our southern sweet tea though...lol. I have went through phases where I had certain preferences. I think sodas were the worst thing for me. I try to mix it up though. I am loving some lemonade right now. I don't like to call it addicted, I like to call it loving.

I will look up the Arizona tea. I am not a big fan of the prepackaged/bottled teas though. I have always been stuck on the sweet tea phase. No switching up for me. LOL. I have never been really interested in carbonated drinks though. Lemonade is ok once in a while. Thanks for stopping by.

Oh yes. I am addicted to coke but I rarely drink soft drink. I know it is not healthy, but every day I drink milk. My mother said that drinking green tea is very healthy and it helps us cleanse our body system. Though I know it is good for the body, I do not have guts to drink a green tea because it tastes bad. For me it tastes bad. Ha ha.

I am sure that sweet tea has lots of sugar in it. And that feeling of drinking so much water and not quenching your thirst is a sign of diabetes. I know because I used to feel that way. I used to eat lots of ice cream and cake an I started getting real thirsty and no matter how much water I had it did not help. I used to get sick drinking so much water. I would have my sugar checked if I were you. And I also remember when I found out I was diabetic, I was scared. But the doctor put me on a diet right away and I lost a ton of weight and felt much better. I still eat right and do not take medication for it either.

Diabetes does run in my family. I hate to think of being diabetic. While I was pregnant I was borderline. They tested me so many times because I was right at that curve. I did change my diet then. I am afraid that I have gotten back to my old habits since the twins have been born. I am going in for a physical in April. I will have them check my sugar levels then. Thanks.

Well make sure you get your sugar and A1C checked. It is important. But you should start eating more healthy anyway, we all should. Thank you for the best response also.

I used green tea but preferred this as hot. One of the radio program that promotes natural healing here in our country said that tea should be taken hot beacuase the effectiveness of the antioxidants or active ingredients are on its best compared to cold ones. They also said that taking cold tea will serve as refreshment rather than a health drink because the active ingredients vanishes as the tea gets cold. Regarding honey, it is the best replacement for sugar or any artificaial sweeteeners. But you must test it first if it is genuine or fake. As per experts, real honey stays liquid even placed in a refrigerator. Furthermore, ants do not eat real honey.

I will have to look that up about the differences between the hot and cold teas. I was not aware of that. Thank you for opening my eyes to that.

I really like sweetened tea especially when I am making it like a milk tea. I also like green tea as well.
