prices going up due to cost of gas

I go to COSTCO about every 3 weeks to buy the things we can use in bulk. Today I am convinced that already the costs of goods are up. Since everything we get here is supplied by truck or train I think it is this cost of gas that is behind the rise. The only answer is to cut back more. I do like to stock up on some things, cans and boxes of dry goods, it makes me feel safe to have some in reserve, but I may have to go more towards just purchasing what we need for one month instead of keeping 6 months on hand. Do you have a plan to cope with yet another raise in costs?

Aren't there any CSAs or farmers' markets in your area? Buying a share in a CSA, shopping at farmers' markets, buying from farm stands and growing your own food are cheaper than buying everything at chain stores. My plan? Continue being primarily a localvore. It is cheaper and generally healthier.

We do have farmers markets and sometimes farm stands but these are often several miles away, by the time we pay for gas we have lost any savings we would find.

I don't have a solid plan for anything, I live day to day in this dump just to survive for almost nothing but it has it's drawbacks. I have alot of stress on my hands too at times, but I do hope the gas prices sink alittle lower than they have been, it's been crazy!

We're only buying things when we run out. Which is dangerous. What if something happens like an ice storm. We'll be out of something. My brother bought 100 bags of Lipton tea for $4.29 American. 72 bags was 4.59. 16 bags were $2.99. That should get him through the winter.

Hi savypat, I wish that I did have a plan. The cost of gas is going up all the time and everything is trucked in here as well. I just watch for specials and buy meats that are being sold at a discount. Blessings.

The best solution that I can come up with to help our family to deal with the increases in costs that we've faced in the last year or so is to make sure that I'm using coupons on things as much as I possibly can. I've been doing research on getting things for the least amount of money possible and pairing up coupons with things that are already on sale is the best way that I can save money. It does take more time to do things this way, but it is worth it for the money that we are able to save.

I personally think that the gas prices are all bull. They can lower the prices real low and those oil companies will still be making billions. It's all a game with them. This is their way of getting the prices raised on products. What they are trying to do is eliminate the little guy, us. It's all corporate. It's all about the money.

Well, I have really noticed everything continuing to skyrocket lately as well, and it is hard to be able to buy ahead. Especially when you just barely can afford what you need just to survive. Makes you wonder if and when it will ever end, and how can people really afford to pay everything and Eat? We have had to watch for Sales and then stock up as usually that is a better deal than places like Costco.

I still find that buying in bulk is my best option. I need to plan menus better, though, to keep us from running to the local store all the time. I try to maximize what I earn online, and only make a monthly trip to shop at Sam's and Aldis. I think you have to know what is really a bargain, though. Other things I think will be to cut down on use of paper products if possible, and recycle and reuse things like glass jars so I am not buying so many plastic containers. I will do farmer's markets in the summer, and shop locally. I probably will increase the number of meals that focus on beans as well.

Nature of the increase of gas price raises the prices of most things that we need, and the first factor to raise prices is the high cost of transportation from one place to another. As well as, for example, but not limited to the increase of prices of chicken, as a result of the increased cost of heating the chicken wards for their use in the process of heating the gas, as well as the transport to different places. I am with you in our organization for a limited period.

I will continue to do what I've always done in regards to storing a rotating supply of back-up goods but I'll put away more money. I'll drive even less. What worries me is my upcoming move across the country...it will be financially stressful if it happened today but if gas prices go over $4 or even $5 I may have to leave nearly everything behind to avoid a moving service--that would save a couple thousand at increased gas prices!
