I'm not asking this due to me asking a poll question, I'm asking cause I actually have a chance to write a book, for free or almost free, and don't know wether to put anything out there that's just not what people like. I'm not a good writer in general anymore either. I was just wondering what kind of books of the two you like?

Hi NailTech, when young I have great interest in reading romantic, adventure as well as science fiction stories. when getting older interest has shifted to books about the technique and knowledge and info about how to do investment in stocks. Different aspects of books loved by people with different interest therefore there must be readers in all kinds of books as long as the content of the book is great and attractive Happy posting

I used to love to read as a teen, then something just changed. I got involved with penpals and then now computers. I don't have as much time as I used to at all. But the love for writing I guess has never totally left me.

Those who love to log in here often are mostly people who love reading and writing I believe. For I'm one of those who tend to be so When young I dreamed I could launch a book lol...anyway a dream is a dream without any hard work and persistence as well as talent. Secondly my language is not that good and I think lacking of lively fancy is one of the main purpose too. And nowadays I just enjoy typing here whenever I have free time Since for a long time you have wanted to take up writing, so keep it up as it's great! I hope you would accomplish your dream soon

I like both, but I prefer fiction books, not necessary happy ones. If it's a good book you can have success with it either way. I wish you good luck with it, I started writing a fiction book and I hope I'll finish it this month, so I know it takes a lot of work and thinking. As long as you put a great deal of your own soul in it, the result will be great.

I love real like inspiring stories of success. For me stories like that will surely give us more than just stories but it also gives us the inspiration that could uplift our spirit and make our dreams come true despite the odds. Sometimes in life we feel so down, it might be because of problems but reading such stories is really helpful. It is also very nice to share to others knowing that it could probably inspire them also.

I think reading stories of feeling better and how to improve the mind and soul is much better than reading stories to make you feel down. Thanks for the responses, I'm still keeping up with my discussions, I have had some health woes and can't always get in here, etc but am trying.

I like all genres except girlie fiction, science fiction and go for non fiction books which can help me in my life. I am reading Michael J Fox's book now on his ordeal with Parkinson's to see how he managed as I also have Parkinson's. I don't have the luxury of reading much fiction as I have to write. Non fiction and biographies are therefore my favorites.

I do tend to really prefer any book that is well written. Still given that reading is my escape from reality, the fictional stories, whether happy or otherwise, might be something that I get drawn towards more. Of course it is just really a matter of how the material is presented, with some authors struggling to presenting even the most exciting material. And real life stories tend to have a certain handicap, a certain hurdle that it has to jump. Really in the end it is all about how well the book is written and how well it grabs my attention to entice me to give it a try. There have been some real life traumatic stories that seem to be rather engaging, rather exciting, and there are times where they seem to rather be something that I would find myself indulging in. Then there are other times where I'd like my breaks from reality to be a bit more clean and fluid.

You're right, it is all about the written quality and not really anything else. I will keep that in mind in case I start writing it, I have til the end of the year to write it. But it does take alot of time and editing.

I read mostly non fiction now and philosophy. I also like Deepak Chopra's books on spirituality and how to get closer to God. I would have studied law and become a lawyer but my urge to be a fictional writer was stronger... and so I have written ten books so far, and like reading other people's work and coming across great little stories. I am interested in reading stories of high achievers or fiction such as the kind John Steinbeck is famous for.

Oh wow, ten books. You are quite the writer. I think a lawyer would have still benn a good choice, you would have had some time to write books on the side though too then right? How successful have the books been? I like the fact you like to write and read books of the likes of John Steinbeck, very cool.

Well that sounds like a cool opportunity - how do you get involved in something like that? I would probably say reality is a little too boring - at least MY reality - to write a book about. If I were to write a book, or READ a book, I would probably want to read about a character I could relate to, but not necessarily ME. I like the fiction aspect of a book - it makes it interesting to me. I like a crime/mystery aspect to a novel, too. Not to say I haven't read EXCELLENT memoirs (I have read quite a few great ones), but I just prefer fiction over anything else. I have always wanted to write a book - not to try to publish it necessarily but just to see if I could do it! And I would probably write about situations that have happened in real life, feelings I have experienced, characters influenced by people I have met, etc, but I would inter-twine it with some fiction as well. I think that's the way to go. . Happy MyLotting! And GOOD LUCK with your writing!

Well, actually I got a free code for the book via a computer program someone bought me for Cmas. It said I could use the code to make my own book for a $30 or so credit which was almost all of what it would cost as far as I undertand, anyways. I might not publish mine either or just end up keeping it for myself no other copies.

I prefer fiction. I love to get hooked into a gripping story. If you are going to give in to what the public wants, that may be a commercial advantage. But, if you don't like what you are writing about, you are not going to be a very good writer.

I like that advice, it's always good to write or do anything the way you like it or else it won't mean much to you. Good point. And good choice on the type of book you like too.

I love to read real life stories. I want to read those books that will enlighten me about the world and about life. I want something that will inspire me. I'm also interested in reading on how a certain undoing became a way to discover what they really want.
