Causes of infant deaths in West Bengal.

Every day we, in West Bengal, see reports of infant deaths occurring at different hospitals and usually the people are aggrieved over the department of health and family welfare of the government of West Bengal. The government argues the late arrival, usually at the terminal stage of the disease, of such patients in the hospitals as well as the poor health condition of the babies since birth. But is it not the discredit of the government that it has not been able so far to make people aware of the necessity of seeking medical advice in time and also to arrange the necessity antenatal health care for all the pregnant women throughout the state and above all, to change the extreme poor financial condition of the families which is solely responsible for this regular massacre going on in the state?

Massacre? I think that just as soon as a child shows any kind of difficulty the parents should take their infant to the doctor. And if there doesn't seem to be good medical care they should speak to the head of the hospital or whoever that might help in this issue.

hi doctordidi for one thing Indian people need to be taught not to have more children than they can take care of, seocndly the goverment must help women to get better prenatal care and teach wome the proper food and nourishment for infants, yes they need financial help as well. the government needs to care for its own people. I am so grateful I live here in the United States God Bless America.healthy happy infants are the citizens of tomorrow's West Bengal

Por child care is evident where ever there is uncontrolled population growth. Even in the USA many areas experience a great deal of infant and young children. The Government can only do so much to improve conditions for these children. Until people are willing to take responsibility for the conditions that create these conditions I am afraid things will continue as they are.

Unfortunately, there is a much higher incidence of infant mortality in places where there is rapid population growth and also subpar medical care. It would be my guess that one of the main reasons for all of these infant deaths is the fact that parents aren't educated enough on when they need to take their children to the hospital. For that reason, medical care is only taken in grave situations where if it had been sought earlier, the prognosis would have been better.
