Fond memories of when you were a child. Feeding our pigs was fun.

They loved all of our extra garden produce. I loved that I didn't have to can more than 52 jars of anything. A week of pickling cucumbers into pickles was enough for me. A couple days of freezing corn was enough for me. I loved feeding them squash and pumpkins the best. They'd raise their heads up, then slam them into the pumpkins and the guts would fly straight up and all over. Pumpkin slime everywhere. They also loved apples, carrots, anything. Omnivores are generally not picky eaters. My Dad had never raised them before. He saw an advertisement in the newspaper for a free shed. Just take it away. It had 4 walls, a roof, but no floor. So we set up the shed and he bought the 3 little pigs. He put them in the shed. The next day, no pigs. Just a shed with a hole in the ground that went under the back of the shed and out to the field. So we spent the day catching the pigs and my Dad spent the day pouring a concrete floor. He bought some cages until the floor dried. I do not understand why they grease pigs at fairs. I can tell you, they get slippery enough in mud and when they don't want to be caught on their own. We ran, grabbed, got a pig, the little brat would slip through our fingers. Glad we only had three pigs to catch and it was just a hobbie farm. 20 or more pigs and we'd still be catching them. I know what you're thinking, just put food out. They're omnivores, they eat anything. Food, to them, is everywhere. They were happy with the grass in the field and the shrubs in the woods. They also didn't know us, we had just gotten them. So what is one of your fondest childhood memories?

I have lots of fond childhood memories i used to like playing football with a few of my friends in the local park in the sunshine on a saturday. We would all knock on each others doors then walk up the park together we would then play footy in the sunshine for hours. Then if we werent to tired we would climb up the trees and relax for a a bit then back home for a roast dinner and a bath. great memories, thinks were easier back then..

I don't know about easier. It's easier to buy a piece of pork than raise one. Definitely easier to buy pickles than pickle them. Sounds like you had lots of great times with your friends. Those are wonderful memories. Thanks for stopping by.

Thats good though that your fondest child hood memories are about hard work that taught you a valuble lesson in lfe to many kids want to play computer games and grow up lazy. I still play a lot of sport now and a love it, it helps me keep fit and make friends but i bet there are some kids who cant be bothered and have never played any sport.

Or they just haven't found a sport they like. I didn't like sports in school because I had no eye-to-hand coordination. But in college, we had dancing, swimming, and martial arts. I really loved those. I still dance, swim and do martial arts. It's just a matter of finding what you love to do.

That is such a good childhood experience my friend. When I was young, one of my fondest childhood memories is that I would go to my grandfather's house which is near by the sea. What I would do there was to go swimming together with my cousins. I was really very black because I always swim in the sea. My grandpa would prepare me foods to eat. I really miss those days.

That sounds wonderful. I would love all of the swimming and food, too. I used to go camping and swim in the lake as a kid. But not very often or very much. Thanks for sharing your memories.

As a child, we all want to do anything as long as it will make us enjoyable and happy. We find happiness in small things. You are very much welcome my friend.

Forgot to put my favorite memories. Just times at my grandmother's place. Playing with my cousins and eating out of the garden. Playing on the ditch bank. Stuff like that.

Eating out of the garden is awesome! Last year mostly my spices and wild berries were all I got because I spent most of my time running to another state for treatments. But I hope I can do more and better this year. Thanks for the memories.

The only time I ever saw a pig was either at the State Fair or out at my ex SIL's. Who knows why they grease them up. Pigs when they are little are pretty cute. I don't think I have ever seen that many(20) pigs in one spot before. Wirey little buggers!

Yes, they're very slim and trim pig when they're young. 20 is a lot in one space, to be sure.

I have a ton of great memories from my childhood. My grandparents were very good to me. I think one of my fondest memories was a rotten cat I had that wanted to play all the time. My grandfather would sit every morning and read the paper at the end of the couch. I would get the cat wound up playing with it and it would start running. That cat would go up one end of the curtains..run across the rod and jump down right in the center of my grandfather's newspaper then take off It would scare him like it was the first time every time it happened...or at least he acted as though it did. I would laugh until I couldn't breathe over that crazy cat and my grandfather.

That was some cat. Pretty strong curtain rods, too. Nowadays the cat would break the rods and fall. Sounds like your Grandpa was a good sport. Sounds like you had way too much fun with that cat!

I wonder why so many didn't survive? It does sound like fun watching them swim. I love the sound ducks make. I can make that sound and the AFLAK sound on the commercial, too. Thanks for adding to the fun memory file.

Are ducks hard to raise? What do you have to do for them?

They are not hard to raise ,more like of chicken. But when the duck became an adult I am more afraid that it will bite me than it being cute. Yeah it was fun watching them swim. :D

Sweet memories of our childhood days remain with us for a very long period of time. In fact those sweet experiences add beauty to present living. In fond remembrance of the yesteryear we make the start of new days lively and entertaining. Past memories are mostly sweet and pleasing.

My best memories are of animals and books. We had no TV when I was a kid, in fact the first one I had was when I was married. But my life was full of animals, dogs, cats, horses, sheep, even a snake or two.

A life filled with animals and books, wonderful. I would have stayed away from the snake. But the rest sounds wonderful. Any particular memory you'd like to share?

I remember best the day I got my first horse. I was 8 years old and we got to go out to the ranch where a whole herd of horses were, I got to pick the one I liked. For this 8 year old it was a dream come true.

I had this experience during my childhood days, my father brought a rooster. I was not that so interest in racing a rooster like in the farm, besides it will be a responsibility. I am playful child, so I did feeding it. Then, it is a rewarding since the rooster was the first pet I had.

Intestting that your Dad started you with a rooster. I started with a cat. Good that you were responsible and fed the rooster.
