I have been on a diet for about two weeks now. I started out @ 180 pounds & I am now down to 171 so I have lost some weight which is good. I'm also 5"2 if that at all matters. The thing is I am pretty much ALWAYS hungry. I've been watching what I eat, eating more salads, vegetables, fruit, fish, & chicken. The thing is I am on a 1200 calorie a day diet & let me tell you even the smaller portions add up quickly. I try to stay within my calorie limit & so far so good, but I always feel like I'm starving & because of this I have been getting a lot of headaches as well. I pretty much know what to eat for Breakfast, but lunch & dinner is another matter entirely. What can I eat during those times of the day that doesn't have a lot of calories yet is filling enough so I wont feel like I'm starving? Please help. I would appreciate any & all advice you can give me.

Yeah I already eat a lot of fruits as well as veggies. As for a specialist, well I can't really afford to see one. That's why I was hoping someone here could help me who has more knowledge about this then I do.

They have some free advice on the Jenny Craig online or better yet the Weight Watchers online. It shows you how to count calories and portion size. You are doing a good job getting down 9 pounds that is really awesome. They say the first 5 is hard. I saw a nutritionist when I was in the military and it was free, but she told me to be healthy you need to eat 5 small meals a day and the key is not to eat till your full but satisfied with energy. It's not healthy to lose more than 3-8 pounds a month. So be careful and stay away from those diet pills. There are some health books out there at the library. Best wishes in your weight loss.

Your body is telling you that you need to eat more calories. It is not safe or healthy to eat 1200 calories a day, or lose more than 2 pounds in a week. Your body will go into starvation mode and protect itself so you'll stop losing weight, and instead you'll get very sick. Besides that, if you lose weight very quickly, it will be harder to maintain. If you change your lifestyle and become healthier, it will be easier to maintain your weight loss.

halloo robswife2006, for me if you ask me the only thing i can suggest, dont diet right away, step by step, until your body will adjust eat more on breakfast, eat little on lunch and dinner, then try to busy yourself on other things if you feel you wanted to eat more, exercise everyday and have disipline for your self, not to eat more.

I would suggest having little low calories snacks throughout the day so that you don't always feel like your hungry all the time. Also if you go up on your calories you can always burn them off with some form of cardio exercise.

I don't really like the idea of dieting because I am never able to control myself when it comes to eating so instead of trying to cut down a lot on eating I just started exercising of jogging and if I happened to eat a lot that day I exercise more. Trying to somewhat starve yourself is not healthy for you. Although if you want to stop yourself from snacking between meals drinking water always helps prolong your hunger. Hope this helps.

The most consistent advice I have ever seen, and that helped me when I was on a severe diet once is to eat soup. Preferably homemade soup. Eat one cup of a clear based soup before lunch and before supper. Then eat your 3-4ozof lean protein and a half plate full of vegetables, and a very small portion of starch. They say to look at your plate like it is divided into four equal parts. Put meat or protein in one fourth, starch like rice or potatoes or noodles in one part and then fill the other half with vegetables. Hopefully some of them raw. Keep us posted on what you are doing, but the soup is supposed to help with the starving feeling as it is warm, liquid and filling, and provides lots of nutrients if you make it with a variety of vegetables.

I feel like I'm dieting all my life.
About 3 years ago I went on a diet and lost 33 pounds and now i just try to keep it off.
I'm always hungry and it's a constant battle.
I eat a lot of kidney or black Beans when I'm at work, they full of protein and fiber and very filling. I cut some veggies into them to make it a little more exciting.
On the weekends I get special treats like Jello with banana and light whipped cream.
You doing a good job...keep it up

I agree with the response that says you need to see a specialist for this. Have you ever tried eating only veggies in lunch and snacks for dinner? Have you ever heard of "Eat like a Queen on Breakfast; A middle-class at lunch; and a bum for dinner"? I hope this will come in handy later.
As for what you will eat, have you tried eating foods with lots of fiber like oats; prunes; certain fruits; green leafy vegetables and others? If I think about it real deeply, yeah, I'm always hungry with my diet filled with fiber but there is only so much that my stomach can take...so I get full for quite a time. If I go hungry, I'll eat again anything with fiber...I don't think there's something wrong with this kind of thing...but I don't know with you. I am no doctor and our body is unique from one to the other at some point--just like this case.

Good job Robswife on your weight loss. I was a lot heavier then that a few years ago and lost over a hundred pounds. And ate what ever I wanted. And like you I too am short I am only a couple of inches taller then you. My secret to losing the weight and keeping it off was I would eat a bowl of special K cereal and walking three miles a day. It worked great for me. I work hard everyday and eat what ever I want and still not gaining the weight back. The whole secret is not what you eat it is how much you do to keep busy walking doing your household chores what ever keeps you from sitting down and staying on your feet will help you more then you know. Heck if you can swim that is the best thing you can do. Good luck my friend! You won't believe the difference!

I don't even count the calories of fruit, because with Weight Watchers fruit is a free food just like most veggies. I probably eat 2000 calories a day without counting the fruit and I am still slowly losing. It's hard for me to lose now because I'm on Neurontin.. so in 2 months i only lost 4 pounds, but I lost the pounds. I don't count calories but points, but sometimes I count the calories just to see how many a day I eat.
Eating more fruits and veggies are filling foods and I eat them whenever I am hungry. Some weight watcher research shows that the calories from fruit don't accumulate like calories from other foods. It's like a calorie isn't just a calorie.. it really does matter what you eat... and they advocate filling foods.. high fiber foods.
Low calorie foods like 1000 calorie diets put you almost at starvation and you stay hungry. I don't stay hungry anymore. I usually have my last snack around 7:30 at night. I also increased my exercise by working a lot in the house and walking a mile or more every few days. I'm anxious to see what I've lost in 3 months now that I've upped my activity.

With all those plenty of responses pouring with this discussion, I think that you've got already some ideas on what to do. I just want to be part of it with something to add to the spices of responses. Feeling hungry can be overcome. The only way I think is self-discipline. If you truly want to follow a certain diet, then self-discipline is the key. I am glad that you are doing great in your diet program. You did it for about two weeks and I'm sure that with self-discipline in the mix, you will do it for a long period of time. You'll be healthy, wealthy, and happy, knowing that God is good all the time.
