i have a teacup chuhuaha/terrier mix. she's 6 yrs old. i noticed a lot of blood spots on my bathroom floor. at first i thought she had gone into heat again and joked with her about buying her some pads. it wasn't till later that i noticed she was favoring her front paw. i gave her a bath-still thinking she's in heat. when i was drying her, i noticed that her "thumb" was sideways. seeing that its sun, no vet office is open. i just don't know what to do. she doesn't seem to be in any pain. other than favoring her paw when she walks. i thought i had some gauze and tape till i could get her to the vet, but i ran out. what else can i do?? i just hope hubby will take her to the vet. at this point, i don't know if he will or won't.

Hi Angle. So sorry to hear about your baby (dog) is hurt. Was you able to see if there was a cut or anything on her paw? If so can you see how deep it is, or if she has something in her paw? Wish you was near I could look at it and see it might just be she stepped on something and it might not be bad. I am not one that gets real squeamish when it comes to blood as long as it isn't mine....LOl They usually don't do anything unless it is real bad. If you can do you have some salve to put on it if so put the salve on it and just wait and see what happens. But of course you have to not put anything on her that can hurt her so be careful what you put on her. She will lick it off so be careful. I will pray that God will heal her foot soon!

yes she is my baby. it made me mad that hubby had to stay over today. since, the bleeding has stopped and she's not in pain, we agreed to take her to the vet tomorrow. i tried to take a picture of it, but she won't let me touch it. she's able to put her weight on it and do everything else with it.

I am glad to here that your baby is doing better. I know how they get when they get hurt they don't want anyone to touch them. Hope she is even better today.

So sorry to hear about that. At this point I guess you've done all you can, other than maybe trying to clean it with peroxide. If it is possible, you probably should leave it unwrapped, unless you feel it needs to be wrapped. I figure you wrapped it to keep anything from getting into it, but I think it should be able to get into it as much as possible. I can tell you are really concerned. I've been there many times. I wish you and her the best and hope you can get her to the vet.

she seems to be doing a little better today. it has stopped bleeding. hubby was supposed to take her to the vet today, but his boss had him work overtime. since, he'll be off tomorrow, hopefully he'll get her there. i haven't wrapped her paw since it doesn't seem to be bothering her. i just want to make sure that there's no permanant damage.

I guess by thumb, you mean her dew claw. This can often get caught on furniture, blankets(especially afgans) and just rough housing while playing. Some dogs are more proned to catching theirs than others. My dog has done so quite a few times and it does heal over time. You can get them removed but it is costly. I used an ace bandage one time when her dew claw was real bad and that seem to deter her from biting at it and making it worse. Just kept it on for about 24 hours.

she is doing a whole lot better. i guess that's what she's done. it doesn't look abnormal to me and she's back to her old self again. when i picked up her heart/flea meds, i talked to the vet. she said that's probably what has happened.
