"time is money my friend.."

Time is money.. what does this actually mean?
I mean don’t get me wrong, I’m not being completely stupid. I understand the expression and its concept etc.. but has it kind of lost all meaning?
I mean take me for example. Time cannot possibly equal money for me. I work 9-5, five days a week, and I am on a yearly salary. So I get the same amount of money whether I’m in work those 8 hours, or 9 or 10.. I get the same amount of money. And even if I’m not in work those 8 hours that day, providing I make the hours up.. I still get my wage.
So how can time possibly equal money for me?
Unless you count the fact that I don’t get paid for a sick day.. but then that isn’t really time equalling money.. that’s “no time equals no money” so rather the statement becomes backwards.
So.. is it a statement for the self employed? And the business owner? They need to put in the hours to make money?
Or is it for people who are flexible? And can work overtime?
What do you think of this?

It's actually not all that true. You can work as hard as possible and still not get paid the amount of money that you think that you deserve. To me, the money will come if you put in the time to think intelligently about how to make it and earn it, and then the money really will come to you.

well what a totally different response. thank you..
so you don't think time equals money in the sense of the more you work, the more you earn.. you think it's about the WAY you work, is that correct?

Yes, it is about the way you work because they way you work as actually how you make more money. What you do in that time, is how you make more money.

Not for everyone.
Only for those who have the ABILITY to make money out of every single thing they do.Sure you'll know the exact meaning when you'll come to realise that you have something that you can use to make more money.

For me it putting a value on time. Time is precious and therefore equates to a monetary value. Your time is precious and far too valuable to be reading the shyte that I write on here.
That's got to be worth 30 bob of anyone's money and no mistake!

It seems like time is money means...
different things to different people.
To me it means...
I don't want to waste time doing something for free it I could be getting paid instead.

That quote can be used in different circumstances and different areas of life in general. It can be used in the accomplishment of a task where money is involved. It can be used in the business world where money is working over time gaining some interest. It can be used in relation to the time spent in doing irrelevant activities versus the time doing productive activities. Of course, it can be used in other areas too, where it is applicable. In my case right now, if I don't accomplish my online project in time, it means a delay in its exposure and promotion, which may affect the money I can make.

so to you, it isn't the amount you get done in the time allocated, it is about getting the work done BY the correct time?

From my point of view, as a (sort of) self employed person, it means that if something takes me ages to do then my product becomes more expensive to produce. From your employers point of view it would mean that if you spent the day filing your nails and reading magazines, then he wouldn't be getting a fully productive employee. Your time spent on his work equates to money in his bank!
If you take your annual salary and break it down into an hourly wages based on your 9-5 hours, that's what you are earning per hour (even if that's not how your wages are calculated). Right? So if you have a really tough day at work and everything goes wrong and you have to work overtime, and that overtime isn't paid, then that's an extra one or two hours that your annual salary has to be split between, and your hourly rate will drop. So time really is money. Horrid isn't it?!
(I've not been on myLot for a while, and seem to have become very verbose all of a sudden! Not that what I'm writing seems to be flowing very well! I had better get back in practice!

I feel a little bit crazy now so please forgive me for the possibility of annoying you with my response.
I don't give a s**t about that expression! So why don't you just give me your time and i'll make it worthwhile. I could you give you more than just the money. I can give you friendship and my loyalty. So how about that?
Sorry! My mind's not at its rightful place right now and hope you can forgive me and not get mad at me. I wanted to say something boring, but you know me! It's not me!
And i agree with what you mostly said! Peace! I miss you!
