Mmmmm. The problem is that I eat too much of the cookie dough so there's not many cookies when I'm done baking. Then I eat a lot of the baked cookies! I love to dunk oatmeal cookies in coffee. Sometimes my tummy hurts from eating too much of the dough! My mother in law says I get a stomach ache because of the eggs. It's not the eggs. The cookie dough isn't out long enough to get salmonella.
When my boys were young, I let them eat the cookie dough. Now I let my granddaughter eat it. Unless it has set out for a long time, it's fine to eat. I've never let them eat as much as I have though.
Mmmmm...oatmeal cookies!

Eating anything raw is bad for you body it doesn't matter how long its out in the air to get something. Eggs are every bad when not cooked especially for pregnant women and young kids. Uncooked eggs do have bacteria in them that you need to cook at a certain temperature to be okay to eat. I wouldn't let my 1 year old eat cookie dough when I make cookies. I love baking and if any one tries to touch the cookie down or batter when I'm baking I get really upset. I tell my husband if you get sick from eating that I'm not taking you to the doctor you did it to yourself. But normally when my husband eats cookie dough its a small amount not the whole thing or half of it. I don't eat raw cookie down I'm pregnant so I can't have any right now period or my doctor would yell at me.
I had made the other day chocolate chip oatmeal cookies I love making them and normally around Christmas I would bake them.

Yea, I agree w/ Shybear here, it doesn't matter how long it's out. It will make you sick regardless, so please don't eat it,m or give it to your kids. I think it's ironic when I watch these cooking shows and they make so many dishes out of eggs and they are always sunny side up where the yoke is only half cooked. Incredible. I think thats just disgusting and would just harbor a ton of bacteria as far as I'm concerned. I stay away from it, I have some underlying health problems so I guess I'd be more suseptable to getting sick from it but still, I think it doesn't matter with that either.

The only time I've ever eating cookie dough is in ice cream and that isn't often and its normally a every small amount. But never when I'm pregnant and not with my 13.5 month old I wouldn't give it to her. Her doctor said only cooked eggs is to be given to her for her age because of the bacteria living in the yoke and the same with honey, and uncooked meat. Peanut butter is for a different reason why you can't give it to young kids till there doctor or allergist says its okay for your kid to have.

I'm still here and not sick in anyway from the cookie dough and I've been eating it for at least 40 yrs. Everything has bacteria in it, before and after it's cooked. Bacteria isn't always bad.
ShyBear88 - I was very cautious when I was pregnant also. I am lactose intolerant but I drank lots of milk for the baby. You are right to do the best thing for your baby.
NailTech - It's probably best since you have health problems to use your judgement and not eat certain foods.

I love baking oatmeal cookies too. I did like to eat some cookie dough though I felt weird about it... but since it made my stomach ache, I stopped it. I don't use eggs in cookies, but it's still not the healthiest thing to eat it raw. It's better to be careful with raw eggs.

I'm just used to eating it because I've done it for decades now. I'm not going to quit eating it. :)

Wow, I wanna try dunking oatmeal cookies in coffee. I haven't tried it yet but I would love to. I don't know how to make oatmeal cookies and we just buy them in the grocery though.

Ya gotta try them in coffee! The bought ones aren't as good, but they're not bad. Archway (brand of cookies) has good oatmeal cookies.

We had oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips in them a few nights ago. My hubby was craving them so he made a batch. They are so good and they turned out perfect. I eat mine with coffee sometimes but right now it is too hot for coffee. Hubby prefers his with a big ole glass of cold milk. Yummy yummy cookies.

I love love dunking warm, fresh baked oatmeal cookies in to hot coffee - only trouble is, the coffee left tastes funky that way - so I pour a small cup of coffee for dunking and another cup for drinking...lol.
Have you ever made the thinner, lacey oatmeal cookies? They are sooo melt in your mouth delicious!

Uh, I haven't made the thin lacey ones on purpose, but a couple of times they came out thin and I don't know why. What do you do differently for the thin ones?

Weird! It's not yet cook...I have not tried eating oatmeal dough though...If I will try it maybe just a pinch of it because I am afraid that my stomach will hurt so bad that I might have some problems going back and forth from the comfort room...but I love eating oatmeal cookies (cooked)..it is really nice the best oatmeal cookie that I have eaten so far is from a monastery it is really good since there were no preservatives added to it plus you got the chance to help the congregation and the institution that it supports hehehhe really nice!

Weird? LOL! You've never tried cookie dough? Try more than a pinch, I doubt that just a little will hurt your stomach unless your stomach is sensitive. Do you ever dunk your oatmeal cookies in milk or coffee?

I prefer my cookies with tea rather than coffee. You're not supposed to eat cookie dough or so I've read, but yes it didn't used to be such a big deal once upon a time. Maybe no one was aware of the dangers then.

No, they probably weren't aware of the dangers way back when. I like tea with cookies also, but prefer coffee. Actually, I just love drinking tea!

I never ate cookie dough. There has always been the controversy over causing intestinal problems so I always steered from raw cookie dough of any kind.
Like you I love fresh from the oven oatmeal cookies.
I love them warm right from the oven. My mom's recipe makes 5 to 6 dozen.
But they are more of a healthy cookie so i don't mind having them around.
Have you ever tried mixing your oatmeal cookies and adding butterscotch pieces?
When I was in Home Ec many moons ago, our home ec teacher had us make them.
Sometimes I will divide the batch and put raisins in one part and the butterscotch pieces in the other half.
Either way they are really good.
