In this railways budgets railway minister increase railway fare for all class after eight years. But political party opposing it. I think nothing is wrong in it. In last 8 years price of every thing increased and income of person also increased. Why not railways fare increase?

Hi anil, I too agree with you. When the petrol prices have gone up almost 300% in 8 years why not railway fares? I feel that politicians are simply making noise to show that they are greatly concerned with people and their grievance. But people do have some intelligence and are able to assess situations as they should be given the circumstances ...

Dear friend,
I feel on one side it is good. As I am from Kerala I also wished the railway could have given more trains and preference to this State at least in this budget. Moreover in price hike, the railway I feel already is having a increading passengers, if the price was less. More and more people would use railway and less on road.
If more trains are given mostly during the rushy time, I feel the passengers here in Kerala mostly would use railways, and the other bus transportation would automatically have to decrease their ticket rates, if more passengers trains are available.
Hope this increase may not be a starting for next hikes or encouragment for further hikes. Wished to cut such hikes at root level itself before it grows to a tree. Have to wait and see...

First of all, railway train is a major mode of public transportation in India, it provides an affordable mewans of public transportation service to the public especially the low and mid income level population. By increasing the fare rate, it is no doubt the government will get several fold of revenue increase and more money for its treasury department. But it will also cause additional financial burder to the public too, so it is important for the government to weigh the benefit and cost carefully before decided to raise the fare, and always keep the fare within a level that is affordable for majority of the people and not profit driven.
