My brother and I, but mostly my brother, have taken care of freshwater fish in aquariums and I believe it is easier than saltwater fish. I heard that there are equipments required for saltwater aquariums, such as those that monitor and balances salinity of the water, and I don't think that's cheap. While for freshwater aquariums, there are also equipments required but they are usually just cheap and easy to find, at lest in our place.

Freshwater is a lot easier for me; however, I have had some fresh water fish that didn't want to thrive in my tanks. Get the largest tank you can afford, as the small tanks are hard to maintain and require a lot more care to keep fish in them. I suggest starting with a small number of fish and plants and don't over feed them. Fish will beg all day to eat. They have tiny stomachs. I feed only once a day. I hear many people tell me any filter will do; however, that is false. Buy the best you can afford making sure it can filter the number of gallons of water that your fish tank can hold. If your area has a local fish club then join. Also ask friends, if they have suggestions of fish places in your local area that can give you advice. My area has a lot of places and several of them have people that have never owned a fish tank. Good luck and will watch for future posts.

I have been keeping fish for over 60 yewars and do believe that it is easier to start most freshwater aquariums than most salt water aquariums. There are many fresh water fish that are a night mare to take care of and it is very labor intensive to care for them than some salt water fish. But in general it takes more specialized equipment to care for marine aquariums whether fish only with live rock or fish and inverts with coral. But then if you go with a planted tank. it cud require CO2 and plant additives. I wuld tell you to start with a freash water aquarium first "to get your feet wet" before you decide to go with a salt water aquarium unless yo have someone that you can trust to help you out thatis close by. Alslo do not scimp on the equipment, try to buy things that can be used in a salt water aquarium so that hyou do not have to buy new equipment if/or when yoou decide to change to salt water aqualriums. Also make slure to buly as large a tank as you can afford and have room for, it is more forgiving and can handle more fish than a samller one can. Do not rush into filling your tank with live animals or plants as you will almotst dom your aquarium to faliure. Good luck and let us know how you make ut. Al.so you might consider joining a local aquarium club to find other people close mby to help you.

Freshwater is by far easier to care for than a saltwater tank. Saltwater tanks are very finicky and so are the fish that usually go in there. I have known a couple of people that have wiped out hundreds of dollars worth of fish before when they first started. I think they are more beautiful though.

I can definitely say that a freshwater tank is way easier and cheaper to set up and take care of than a marine tank. You need to sink big money into a decent marine tank to set it up right and it costs a pretty penny to put fish into as they're not cheap. The supplies for maintenance are also not cheap. You can put together a freshwater tank on a shoestring budget and maintain it that way too. They're easier to keep right once you get them right too.
