I led people in finding a Nature Name.

While most of the Healing Circle were doing Reiki, Touch for Health, or Hands on Healing with someone, I took one person aside at a time and we went to find the person's nature name. We found all different names for people. A tree, a 4-legged animal, a sea creature, a domestic animal, a combination rock and part of an animal, so you see, we did well. I tell people that we are not "looking for" a particular thing. A Nature name can be anything. I lead each one individually. That way we end up with individual names and not names that are not all the same. I had originally just wanted to do this with a couple of children. The reason being was that both children who came to the group were named the exact same first name. I think each person should have his or her own distinctive name. The adults heard about it and some of them were more excited than the children. A couple of adults seemed disappointed. I think they thought they should be an animal. But I asked each person to make sure that was his or her name. ASk your Spirit Guide, an Angel, the Powers of the Universe, whoever. So each one had the name they told me afterward verified. I think they need to open up their minds and that's why they got names that were not what they thought they should get. I once read that you should not just pick a name for yourself because "ego" gets in the way. But ask for assistance from the powers and you will get the name that is right for you. I thought all the names were awesome. I think the two that didn't like theirs need to research the meanings of the names. I asked for my name in a dream and I had told the adults they could do that. But they hadn't and they wanted to do the searching for a name with me. So if they don't like it, they can take it up with the Universe or their Guides. Maybe they would like it better if they found it in a dream. I don't know, but they had a couple of months to do it and they hadn't. Plus when I was doing it with the children, they all wanted a turn. Anway, the person who usually leads had to work that day. So I got the chance. So do you have a religious name? A name that came to you in a dream? A name someone else gave you? Ny religious name came to me in a dream. Part of it, I might have picked for myself, but part of it, I had to research and decide that it was cool and suited me. I think children are more receptive. The children liked their names. The 20 year old liked her name.

This is all completely new to me, and it sounds interesting. I don´t really understand how someone finds their name, or how you help them. I understand how if you find it in a dream, but if not then how?

I have them use their imagination. If many people ask, I will probably do a "How to" on another discussion. Basically they are to get comfortable. They can close their eyes or leave them open. Imagine their favorite place in nature. Describe it to me. Now ask to see something that should be your name. Often they don't see anything, I ask them to wait. Sometimes they see something, sometimes I ask them to go for a walk or they can fly or swim, whatever is appropriate. Then ask again to see, hear, feel, etc. something that should be their name. It was neat. Each person liked a different place, I heard a field, cliffs, a cave, the ocean, a forest, and another field. I ask them where they are. What they see, to describe things to me. Then I ask them to ask the Universe or the Spirit Guide, if they believe in Angels, their Guadian Angel, God/Godess, whoever, to tell them their name. Then ask, is blah, blah my name? Often people see something,so they need to put it into words so they can be sure of the name or they hear a sound, so it's important to put it into the actual name. Like Crow Cawing, is that it? No, then what is it? Crow's Message. Whale screeching. No, Whale singing. OK. So that way, they get the name they should have. Does it make a little more sense now? Most people have searched for and gotten either a Spirit Guide or have a Guardian Angel that they communicate with by now. So that is sort of a pre-requisite that you have someone who you can ask and get an answser from.

Or rocks or trees or fish. Yes, you are correct. Ego would have everyone their favorite power animal. I'm a flower and I never saw myself as a flower. But this flower, when I looked it up had over 100 uses. Also it sways and I like the dance aspect of it. You can learn a great deal when you find out you're not what you think. Finding one hunred uses of a plant really made my day since I love useful plants! It reaffirms that I should study the use of plants, trees, all kinds of vegetation. I met a person who was surprised that she was a name that had to do with wind. Until she actually stayed out in the wind during a wind storm and felt its power. Then she was hooked on her name like I am on mine. In your case, you would be accessing the Higher Self, the part of the mind that most people don't open up and listen to. Everyone has a different take on what they need to access, hense the Spirit Guides, God, Goddess, Guardian Angels, Isis, whoever or whatever. I work within the belief system of the person in front of me. So you're a Higher Self person, that's cool. I like to do one on one for many reasons like the favorite spot in Nature is different for each person. The descriptions are different for each person. You culd also be an Intuitive Self person. But that's for you to decide. Once you decide that, if and when you work with others and that ask what to say to you for a belief of how things work, you can tell the person. Then they don't have to list everything they can think of and still leave out the appropriate one for you. So yes, in your case, it's opening up the mind and being attuned to what it has to tell you. That's why dreams work well. So does guided journeys.

So really it´s just opening your mind up and becoming attuned to what it has to tell you? I appreciate the danger of allowing ego to play a part. I imagine there are allot of people claiming their names are eagles or bears or something else dramatic and not so many wanting to be grasshoppers or newts.

I don't know what my "nature name" is but I know what you mean by people being dissatisfied by the finding. When I found out my astrological, Taurus, the bull I was not happy. Fist, I'm not a man and bulls are dangerous to be around. As I found out more and more about Taurus I found it actually suits me.

So you understand where they're coming from and my urging them to find out more about their names. I think when they look at what trees can do,esp. the strong one picked and at what the sea creature can do, they will see that their names mean strength and power. But that is for them to find out and not for me to tell them. Glad you like your sign now. It's encouraging to me.

I am very open minded. I once knew a vegan witch. She never told me, it just dawned on me about 4 years later. She gave me a neck and shoulder message. I just melted and she barely touched me! She was also "the mom of the department" we worked in. If I ever see her again I won't let her go on her way until I give her a hug and tell her I know. COOL!

Some things don't need to be spoken. But on the other hand, when a person is having a bad day, words of encouragement go a long way. Thanks for being encouraing to me and take care.

I think Garden Gerty is my special name. I am sure most people here understand that Gerty or Gertrude is not my given name, but it is a name I picked or found. It is not exactly a nature name, though, unless you count Garden. Garden Gerty is a character I portrayed, and I like her, and she is a special person that I try to be. I think this may be the essence of what you are telling people to find or ask for.

Yes, the true self instead of a name that sounded nice in a book that millions of people all over the world also have. If not their true self, then at least their alter ego.

Well, I don't have a pagan background, but I chose a Saint, well, actually 2 Saints when I joined the Orthodox church. I thought I did well. I chose the Blessed Virgin as one, because I'm such a failure at the "female" part of life, so, one of the names is Mary. The other Saint I chose was Thomas the Apostle, because I was such a doubter, my father was an atheist. I think Thomas has been a great choice, whenever I feel doubt I turn to him in prayer and I feel him respond - often instantly.

This is so wild, I knew a Sister Mary Thomas. That wasn't her real name. I think she chose those names for the same reasons. That's pretty excellent. You'll like my Easter discussion since the Orthodox churches have caused some confusion in my life. I'm off to create that discussion now.

No...I don't have a nature/spirit name. I would like to have one though..that would be neat. I am glad you got to take them out for their names..that would be exciting too. I guess that most people would think that an animal name is a "nature" name but it really wouldn't be confined to that would it? Maybe I'll see if I can dream up one of my own.

My nature name is Mylah. I don't remember the origin of this name for sure but I think it means merciful. It has been so long since I even thought of it but it too came to me in a dream. It was odd that I would dream of this name as I had never heard it before.

That's really cool. I prefer people getting their names from a dream. Then they don't think I influenced them and they're more accepting of the name. Hope you've been able to be merciful.

Hi writers I am not sure what my the nature's name should be or even is. In India, we have astrology which is not based on Sun Signs instead we use the Moon. And going by that my Sign (as mentioned in the horoscope) is Cancer. But as most of the text I can lay my hands on is based on English/Western Sun Signs, I am in the Cusp of Virgo and Libra for sure. The issue with me is that I was born on September 23rd night 11:59(pm) which always plays funny with me. Many a days, I find Libra stronger and many other days, I find Virgo goes 100% right. At the moment, I mostly end up confused which should I follow Traditionally, Indians are quite orthodox when it comes to Horoscopes and we mostly dont get to even see those. Mine was done by some expert when I was born and all I have been told is that I am a cancerian. The Horoscope has a name for me too but I am unaware of it. But it starts with "H" as per what I was told by my late granny. I dont know anything beyond as far as my original horoscope is concerned. I am quite scared of water and heights. So I guess if I had to choose a Nature Name for me, I would select something related to Stars or Universe (Space) as I always wanted to be an Astronomer and still love them. If you could/can, please let me know how you decide the nature names or they were randomly given?

The names are definitely not randomly given. If you read what I wrote for GreenMoo above, you can see how I go about giving names. I can, if people want, do a more step-by-step how to get a Nature Name. It's not so much that I give it as they find it. It's like a journey in your mind. So I hope you enjoy reading the quick version of how to do it above.
