I've been off from work for 9 days now and have to go back tomorrow, I always have to prepare myself to go back to work especially after being off for more than a weekend. My clothe are already laid out and my lunch is ready even though it s only 5am and I still have a whole day off ahead of me. Do you get panicky having to go back to work after vacation....you never know what happened while you were gone

Not panicky but it takes me a while to get back in the swing of things. Last year I got my schedule all out of whack and 4AM was a lot harder to deal with for a while

hi missybear. i understand what you are feeling missybear. sometimes, i feel a lot worse as i don't want to go bak to work anymore after coming from a much needed vacation. lol! anyway, its good that you're anticipating what will happen when you get back to work. i don't think you're panicking, perhaps you're just excited to get back to work and see your officemates. anyway, dn't fret so much, i'm sure you'll do well. just focus all that energy into positive work and you'll be fine. cheers!!!

Personally it can many times be rough to go back to work after being on vaction, as like you said you often wonder what you might have missed as well as just having to get back into the swing of things as well. I find though being able to take breaks like this from time to time really does make life more worth while.

it was especially hard this last vacation since I had to come back the day we moved to a new facility, that was a mess but it doesn't stop me from thinking of my next vacation already

Yeah, going back to work after a prolonged absence always filled me with fear and dread. The thing was, I was usually glad to be going back to see my work mates and having something to do. Sometimes we can be our own worst enemies.

If people that take your place while you on vacation don't do their job right it makes it hard for you when you come back

hi dear missybear, I can understand you well. I used to panic a bit when having to return to work after vacations of one or two weeks as well. But as I take some meds which help me get a "thick skin", so to say I am not panicking any more now. I know that the colleagues have not done everything that needed to be done while I was away so when I get back there I just dig my way through all the stuff to be done........

I don't worry about going back so much as I have trouble adjusting to the work routine again - I get used to not having to work very quickly, but it takes a long time for me to grow used to having to work again.

I often get panicky after just a long weekend. Or at least I did at some of my jobs. In your case, a lot can change while you are away, so it is not unreasonable that you should feel some dread.

It seems you have enjoyed yourself on your vacation. That is a good thing to relax and enjoy quality time with one's family members. Well, you know, each time after a holiday, i also feel bad and lazy and don't want to go back to office. But we have to, because we have to work to make money.

Missy, i was having the same mood when i was still working before. Whenever i am having a long vacation, i would feel insecure for a few days, when i return to work. After i get used with the usual working environment, then only i will feel settle and more comfortable as well. Now, i don't have this type of problem anymore since i don't work full-time anymore. Hope you will feel at ease and begin your working journey like usual again.

Well I'm only an hour away from going back to work and I'm getting kinda excited now. I didn't sleep good last night because I kept thinking about work but that always happens to me on Sunday nights.

i have been on leave for a week because my son had an accident at home. so since he is already okay, i decided to report at work today. the truth is i'm loving staying at home with my little son so i am not really excited to go to work now :(. but i have no choice because i have to. i just prayed that one day i will be able to just take care of my son at home.

Being a teacher, I am starting my spring break. I do not have a hard time coming back from my spring/winter breaks most of the time. Coming back from Summer, I always panick because it is new students.

I've never had a vacation, but I have had too many days off from work before. Does that count? LOL I wouldn't say I get panicky. I do however wonder what to expect as most of the time I never know what's going on until I get back there, even if I only had a few days off.

May I ask? How much vacation time do you get in a year? Do you like your job? I used to work on overnight shifts at a residential treatment facility for adolescents. I did not like it but I did not hate it too much either, but somehow I stayed there for too long (7 years). I did not like my schedule, but the schedule I wanted was not available at all. Since the institution I worked with had pretty generous time off, I took advantage of taking time off in lots of weekend (some of them one shift, some of them the whole weekend). Yes, I worked on weekends. Part of why I was able to get time off on the weekends was my ability to pick extra shifts accumulating my hours to 50 - 60 hours per week. Let's say, in one week I picked up 20 hours (2 extra shifts) and I work 2 normal shifts plus a Saturday night off for example, my time off was saved. In other words, since I already got a 40 hour week, the time off was not paid. I was not complaining.

Should your job be such a stressful one? Vacation from work is a right if it is stated clearly in your employment agreement. If you had followed the proper procedure to send in your leave application and it was approved by your superior officer, the vacation is earned by your hard work and dedication. So I find it strange that you seem to be overly nervous going back to work from your vacation. A good company will always have someone to update its staff on a need-to-know basis if there is any updates or new developments concerning their jobs. At the very least you can always get the information from your colleagues who were on duty when you were on leave. If indeed your company is one that makes you so stressed, it is better if you can find another job. To be stressful all the time is no fun.
