Ever have a person recommend a book to you and you really don't like it?

Kryon 12, a friend is having me read it. She thinks it's great. I'v read 48 pages. I think it's a chore and a bore. The Twelve Levels of DNA might excite her, but it's doing nothing for me so far.
Ever have that problem? Then the person wants to know how you like it. You don't.

I personally don't mind reading even boring stuff that doesn't interest me. I like reading for the brain , for the knowledge and some other directions to open my mind.
If I read something that was boring , I will try to deal with some facts from it , see what I like there and talk about it. Maybe a funny paragraph , maybe an interesting paragraph...maybe the style of the writings...
Have fun mylotting.

It's not funny. It's not intereesting. It rambles so there is no real style. I wish I could find something positive besides the pictures in the back.

It's an exersice to the brain if you take a text of whatever it may be , and learn what it says. You can be proud of yourself after dealing with the text.
You don't have to see that as a chore.
Take it as a sport.
For example , I respond to discussions that don't interest me , I just go to the first discussion that comes up on my special lottery and read it , and respond it well.

This is what turned me off to a book club. I found the books choosen were not of interest to me, much less the time it took to discuss them. I'll tell someone if I read something I think they will like but if they don't it doesn't hurt my feelings.

I was wondering about book clubs.
I do the same, mention it, but my tastes are so different from others that other than the Harry Potter series, people don't usually read what I read.
Thanks and take care.

Normally this person's tastes aren't that far from mine but this is just awful. Not sure what happened there.

That has happened but I am so curious I couldn't put it down if I wanted to. Once I have started it I have to see how it ends or what all it information it sets forth. I would be honest with the person whether I liked it or not.

How it ends, I already know. There are 12 levels of DNA, so it ends with a summary of the 12 levels of DNA. We're not talking about a Mystery, Romance, etc. We're talking about a weird blending of science and parapsych. This is like reading a reference book. I think you would put this down just fine. I have. Several times. I keep forcing myself to read this.
I was honest, she keeps saying, "Keep reading." I'm trying.

Hi witers
When I was 16, I was recommended to read some book (I forget the name today, been a long time back in history and I was always weak with dates and names
). Like you, I too started off with a great interest but as it was think (about 400+ pages) and quite non-interesting to me, I returned the book back to the friend - only after reading the end of the novel
- so that if the friend asked, I could reply, but he did not.
Later, much later when I started off as a teacher, students always asked me - which book should they follow. I always told them - go to the shop. Spend some hours there reading a little of as many books (on the subject) as you can and then buy the one which you understand.
I think this should be the right approach, if not the best for many books, if not all(as some are sealed and cannot be opened). Interests and understandings vary from person to person and book reading is something that everyone has a different taste of which must be respected.

Yes, I think your advice to your students was and is still the best. Thanks and take care.
