Is it just me, or has myLot changed?

Well, not the site itself so much as the people. While there have always been the pointless discussions and the stupid/unnecessary/ignorant responses, there used to be a few decent discussions and a nice mix of people which included those who gave great responses, etc. I've not been here as much as I would have liked but have been on a bit in the past couple of days. I have been rather disappointed to find that the quality of discussions has lapsed and there are more people who do not read/understand them giving useless/irrelevant/ignorant responses. So, I suppose the question is this: Are people leaving BECAUSE of poor quality or is the poor quality a RESULT of people leaving? I hope people understand what I mean. (I know there are still a few who will. :))

I’ll only speak for myself as I think that is only fair. Who can say what other people think about. I’ve been away (sorry) because of personal life reasons and because of some computer problems but who knows may be able to become active again and try to contribute more...wishing for that for the future. I understand what you are saying pumpkinjam. I do hope it is alright to offer up a suggestion to anyone reading, for what it is worth... Just keep offering quality comments and contribute to discussions we like in quality way or to topics we are interested in... in a manner that befits our particular style. In other words set a good example, do what delights us and surely we will be rewarded for the effort?

"set a good example" Well said, and I definitely agree with you here. We can only control what we do, but if we continue to do what we think is right and set a good example, then hopefully others will see and realize what we are doing is not only contributing to the discussion but also earning us money as well. Then, perhaps they will follow the example and it will catch on.

Thank you. Your comments have begun to restore my faith in the myLot community. :-) I was kind of getting fed.up of having to explain things over again!

Well, pumpkinjam, I agree with you that there should be more discussions of serious nature. While this is true, I differ with you in terms that there have been less of them. It has been a while since you have come here, I am sure that you will explore and find something that can engage you intellectually. It may be true that the myLotters who you had satisfying discussions with may no longer be on it now, but to say that there are none would be carrying the truth a bit too far. Patience, dear lady, that is precisely what is needed. I have found a bunch of agreeable people I have all my discussions with, and am enjoying agreeing to all of what they say. Some of them find me a pain in the neck, but refer to me as "Cervical Spondylitis" out of politeness. I promise you that I will befriend you and will be serious, informative, irreverent and perhaps irrelevant as the occasion demands.

Thank you. You are right. I should be patient and make more effort to find the quality I crave! I was just getting a little annoyed with certain responses to other things where the responder had clearly made no effort to read the whole discussion. It's not necessary to be serious all the time. But knowing when to be serious and when not to is always good. :-) Nice to meet you. By the way, I have been back a little while just lurking in the shadows. ;-)

LOL! What about those that are agreeably disagreeable? Do we get some credit on here as well?

Dear purplealabaster, you are right! When I happen to encounter the agreeably disagreeable, I agree to the disagree that agreeing is not what we are disagreeing about and generally we agree to disagree about what is there on the discussion, as you say, agreeably. If you see a contradiction there, well, I agree to disagree again agreeably. Dear pumpkinjam, have a blast here, that is what matters most!

I think it's a bit of both. I know a lot of my friends seem to have disappeared from here. Some seem to have been victims of trolls. Some fun discussions get deleted so it's not so much fun on here as it used to be.

Thank you for your response. :) I suppose there are a lot of reasons for people to leave. Hopefully, as I think I said earlier, there will be a new wave of quality. And maybe some old'uns will return a bit more.

I also stopped for a while at myLot due to internet problem but when I came back what I noticed some mylotters left. For the discussions it's the same there are quality discussions and there are just topics where just to have something for discussion. Quality discussions gets quality responses, I think. There are few who really just post their responses in short cuts, unexplained well but understandably for the new ones and those who are not from much English speaking countries. There are discussions that does not interest me or I can't relate so, I just leave it for others to respond. Those which are interesting gets interesting responseS as well. As long as myLot approved the topics for discussions, no problem. Same with the responses as long as myLot approved it's posting, whether it's a quality or not, they will appear. Should mylot do an upgrading editing discussions and responses, imposing quality discussions and responses that's the only time there could be change. It's alright however whatever discussions were started as long as myLot accepted same with the responses and comments.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I am beginning to see the there are still people on here who are able to offer quality, taking the time to read and understand the whole discuasion. It is a very sensible idea to just not respond to poor quality discussions or those which you don't understand. Personally I would rather see 2 or 3 quality responses than 100 responses from people who don't take the time to read the whole thing.

I suspect that there is a little bit of both. People get frustrated by one thing or another, and they leave the site. If they are one of the ones that have been very active and a good contributor, then their presence is definitely missed. As it happens, though, other people join the site. Some join with the misconception that this site is for questions and answers rather than discussions, and we get a deluge of "what is your favorite" discussions and the like. As the newer members realize that is not what myLot is about, some of them will also leave, but hopefully some will stay and increase the quality of their discussions. It seems to be a cycle, and we are just in one of those "down" spots at the moment.

Hello Purple. Thanks for adding more quality to my discussion. :-) I think you're right with what you say. I do like to dip in here occasionally. Perhaps, as some have said, I should look a bit harder. I would say that this discussion has been successful in generating enough quality responses to prove me wrong. But, as you say, I may have returned in the "low" season. :-)

Thank you for the honor of best response. I am glad that we have helped to prove you wrong. I have been here long enough to know what you are talking about, though. Sometimes it seems like all you can find are duplicate discussions or referral/promotional discussions or plagiarists, etc. Of course, there are at least one or two of these types of discussions here every day, but usually the quality ones overshadow the others. When I have to go searching for a quality discussion to interact on, though, then I do tend to get frustrated/discouraged, especially if it happens several days in a row. Similarly, when I do find what could be a quality discussion but most of the responses are not really relevant to the discussion topic or they are just repeats of the previous responses, then that can be discouraging as well, especially when the original poster of the discussion has abandoned it. At these times, I just try to remember that things will get better ... and sometimes I also see what a few well placed comments of my own can stir up.

Like you i was kind of disappointed when i came back to mylot only to find out that people are too lazy to read the discussion and just immediately respond without understanding fully well what i have written. I have the same complaints as you before but i was lucky to have friends here that used to give me a great kick for motivation. They were all fun to discuss with and we all have this crazy sense of humor making our discussions livelier than others. The sad thing is when i left mylot, they slowly exited too and now that i'm back i could hardly see them at all. So i think it's the people here and what they write that makes me wanna leave or stay.

Thank you for a thoughtful response. I also used to have friends here who offered great discussions and responses. One or two are still about but not so active. Hopefully there will be a new wave of interesting people. :-)

Really? I don't feel it but I'm here only for two years still maybe you are longer than me. I still find the discussions interesting and MyLot have really nothing else to compeare to cause I kept asking over the years and no one name me a site exactly like mylot, they just say it exist but I don't think so. I like it here.

I have been a member here for long time. 8 years if I remember rightly. I don't believe there is another site truly like this one. Perhaps I am not looking hard enough for the good discussions. :-)

I'm new here, a friend invited me to try myLot out. I actually find the response here better than other forums I have participated in. Well, there are some really pointless posts but there are some that are worth responding to.

Welcome to MyLot. I mist admit that this site is still one of the better ones for discussion. I do agree with what you said. As I say, perhaps I am not looking hard enough for the good discussions!
