The first time i know internet, i don't even know the meaning of chatting. Then my friend tell me about a software Called mIRC. It is a chatting software that provide a lot of channel / room. After that i often go chatting, but until i met yahoo, i only chatting for fun and not using it for communication since i cannot have a permanent userid in mIRC. I use mIRC for the first time in Year 2001. Can you tell us about your first chatting software and your experience using that? When the first time you are using it? Please share it with us.

hi there, the first one i used was Yahoo Messenger. i wasn't interested in chatting before until college because of my boyfriend. it was around 2004. it was our way of communicating and also texting through Chikka. but now i am just very happy that there is Skype because it is better than YM when it comes to video calling hehehe

Well yes, i also start using Yahoo messenger more when i was in college. Especially since most of my college friend also using YM. Now i prefer skype for video call and calling oversea and still yahoo messenger for chatting. Some time i also use facebook chat, but it only to a few of myfriend only.

Well a free call from personal computer to a cellphones must be really interesting, but i think that kind of call will cost the company greatly. For calling from pc to cellphones, i rely on Skype. it is very cheap to call to a certain country. I use them often Cherish14. You should try too.

yeah it was probably a promo only that time. but i was able to use if for almost a year. i could call my boyfriend anywhere, anytime, be it on his cellphone or land line in the states. it's okay, we can still talk on chat. i don't really need to spend some money for that skype call even if it is very cheap.

I learned about Internet when I was already five years working. That's five years after my graduation in college. That was year 2000. But before this, I was already chatting using my cellphone. It's chatting through texting wherein I needed to join a chatroom before I can chat with other members. The second and probably the last is Yahoo messenger. There's also a chat feature in Skype and Facebook, but I seldom use it. I love using Yahoo messenger.

Well year 2000, after Y2K :P. Yes chatting is an interesting thing. Using yahoo messenger as your first chatting software is a good thing since you can skip all the hassle of learning many command if you start chatting using mIRC. I remember at that time, you don't need to enter chapcha when you try to join a room in Yahoo Messenger.

Well you have very little of option when you are chatting without internet connection. I think it only available for people who connected directly to you via medium such as wires. Or you could text using short message, which cost you a little money for every message you sent.

Because I wasn't Internet savvy, I didn't know anything about MIRC. My first was texting alone. There's a feature in my phone provider that allows users to chat without Internet connection. It's telephony alone.

My first chatting experience was in Yahoo.com. Then I also discovered a chatting site which I don't remember anymore since it's been a long time. Then right now, I'm only chatting though Facebook.

Facebook is the most convenient for me. I'm not a chatty person, I mean, a person who does not love to chat. I can just sign in on Facebook and when someone chats with me, I'll talk to them. But I'm not the one who always initiate the chatting. Whenever I go to Yahoo, I just check or emails. I don't got there for chat. In short, I can live without it.

Well i think Yahoo.com trough Yahoo Messenger is still the best Chatting software. Off course this not including voice call and video call because those two kinda suck for yahoo messenger if you compare it with Skype. Well why you only use facebook now for chat? Can you tell me more.

Well it that the case, then having no chat is no problem with you. If you not really into chatting, then i don't see you need many feature on chatting software. The simplest chat apps like facebook will be able to give you all your chatting need since you are not really a chatty person.

Well ICQ might be famous, but it only allow you to chat with people that you already know the ICQ Id. So at that time ( and until now ), i prefer to use yahoo messenger. mIRC also good at that time, but it is to complicated and have so many command so it is not really newbs friendly.

I first had the opportunity to use the internet and to also be able to chat with people from all over in the late 1990s. The first system that I used to be able to chat with other people is the now defunct Prodigy. It was through Prodigy that I was able to first meet people that I started to talk to orignially through the internet. Then, soon after that I started using America Online as well. It was a few years after I first started chatting on the computer that I was actually able to meet the man that is now my husband through the internet, before dating from the internet was something that was mainstream.

I never used MIRC when I started using the internet over ten years ago. I started with Yahoo messenger right away and my Yahoo ID is still active. It has been active since 1999 and the friends that I have added there are usually family. But my family hasn't also changed their Yahoo ID's since. I may have added two more ID's for email purposes, but the original one is still my main account. I never had any trouble using Yahoo Messenger when I first used it. And it was easier to find friends and make connections that time because most of the people that I met online at that time really just wanted to meet new friends. Unlike now where most of the people I meet in chat rooms are kids who are very rude. Sure, there was the occasional pervert, but you get to talk to sensible people more often than not. Now, when I open a chat room, I can't stay for more than ten minutes because I get disgusted with the people that send me a message.

I can't really remember which is the first chatting software I used in the past. I remember mIRC, but it is not the first one. I doubt whether it was ICQ. Probably I used it in 1997 as it was my first time to use the internet. At least I used it quite often long time ago. But I am already inactive in ICQ for a very long time. I love China

Well i actually never active in ICQ. I remember making ICQ id, but at that time, i confuse about how to use it since i cannot find a room to join. So i think it is more like a communication software for people that you already know instead a place for making new friend.

In the beginning I only used online chat sites where I was able to chat with others without downloading anything. I once chatted with a man and in the end of our chat conversation he asked me if I had ICQ. I asked him: "What is that?" and then he laughed at me I had never heard about it before and I had no idea what it was. A few days later I asked one of my friends who ICQ was and how to use it and he installed it on my computer. We didn't live in the same town and we weren't able to meet very often so we started chatting on ICQ instead. We both enjoyed chatting there, but today I don't use ICQ anymore, and I usually talk to my friends on Facebook instead.

Well yes, ICQ is pretty confusing since most people never used it if they don't know anyone who also have ICQ id. But now, people use many way to chat, yahoo messenger, Skype, and even social networking site like facebook have a chatting apps. Thanks for the respond.

I started using the internet in 1997 or 1998. I have to see when I bought my 56K DIAL UP MODEM haha. The first chatting programs I used were mIRC and ICQ, I can't recall which was the first one. The funny thing that I remember about ICQ was that you were actually downloading a soundclip when someone tried to send you one. You were watching a bar of like 700KB filling up slooooowly :P

L.O.L. Yes at that time, the internet is super slow. Chatting is the only fun thing where you can enjoy internet with out waiting too long. I remember at that time i often stop a progress of a page because it contain too many image. It is really different from today speed.

Well mIRC is actually pretty complicated chat software, especially if you compare it with Yahoo Messenger. It has so many command, and it is kinda not user friendly. Most of it's user also seem not really friendly to Newbies. Off course it also depend on the channel that you join in. Thanks for your respond, ckciasigurl.

I vaguely remember the first time I used chatting software. It was sometime around the year 2000 and I just finished watching a movie which showed an actor chatting thru a computer. I was instantly hooked and attempted to do the same. I ended up chatting thru a BBS website. BBS stands for Bulletin Board System and back then was the coolest thing around. I loved it.
