Potty Training Tricks

I want to start teaching my daughter to use the toilet as soon as she starts walking. I know there are different methods that work, and those that don't work. And I know that each child is different. My plan is to get her a toddler toilet, take her in the bathroom with me when I go, and make her sit on her toilet when I go. I also want to use a sticker method. When she pees in her toilet she'll get one sticker on a board, and when she poops in her toilet she'll get two stickers. When she reaches a certain amount of stickers on her board, she'll get a new toy from the store. I don't know if my ideas will work, but they're worth trying. What potty training tricks do you have? What worked and what didn't work so well? How old were your kids when they were fully potty trained?

Our little granddaughter is in the process right now of being trained. She goes to preschool and they do the marshmallow method. When a child pees in the potty chair, they give that child 3 little marshmallows. It's working well at home also. Our kids were trained by the time they were between 2 and 2 1/2. I can recall sitting in the bathroom with them reading books. It was a long process for me but worked!

That's a very interesting method. I've never heard of people using marshmallows to aid in potty training. I'm iffy about using tricks that include food. Its a nice reward, but I don't want her to get used to eating every time she does something good. My aunt used snacks for anything good her son did. He got to the point where he was eating nothing but snacks and junk food. Now he's twelve years old and overweight. I won't let my little girl ever get that way. And I know a few marshmallows here and there aren't a huge deal, but I want to stay away from sugary foods until she's a lot older, and I'd like her to be potty trained a lot quicker. Thanks for the tips!!

I totally understand about the sugar. I guess this particular preschool thinks it's a good reward system that works. It did work for my granddaughter but I don't always reward her. I distract her and that works almost as well. Hope you have good success in whatever method you use.

I can say that you have a wonderful idea, the visual key for children is very important and will quickly take into effect. Whatever path you chose to take, remember; Stick with it! If you decide to go with the prize, you have to follow thru or future training. When you train to use the potty, also train to learn to wipe. You will thank me later!

My eldest I put on the potty at same times, worked great before she was 2 years old she was trained. For a short time I gave her 5 cents for each time she did something on the potty. Number 2 and 3 (also girls) were very fast as well. My son I never really trained on a potty, I tried but it did not work. so it took very long and perhaps that also is a part of the reason he did not care? Or perhaps it's because boy mostly care less (same in the animal world and with men). My youngest daughter I also did not really potty train, she was a bit older and I put her on the toilet instead of a potty. She was very quickly trained too day and night just like her 3 older sisters.

This is my situation these days. I am busy potty training my 2 year old. I am having tough time with her. Reading other posts here I think I got late in training her... At least I have got now new ideas for her...Normally I show her potty training videos on my cell or engage her with one or the other thing...trust me its not so easy!!

I have 2 children. My oldest is potty trained and he is a boy. Everyone always says its waste to train a girl then a boy. I beg the differ lol. All I had to do for my son was tell him to go pee on a bush or a tree and that was it he was trained from that time on. My little girl on the other hand she is kinda trained but not really. She will go for everyone else but me. She even goes to the bath room at school and at day care. The one thing that I have found that my little girl likes that I learned from my nana is the tinkle fairies. She thinks that it is just the neatest thing to sit on the potty and be very very quiet. With you being quiet when you pee pee in the potty you can hear the tinkle faries or the potty fairies. She loves to sit there and I take her with me to the bath room and we do the. Wry same thing sit there very quietly and listen to the tinkle faries talk when mommy pee pees. I like your sticker idea. I just might have to try that cause my kids love to go to the store every weekend and buy a new toy. Thanks for you great idea. How many stickers are you thinking about making her have before you buy herbs toy?
