Middle age?

Looking at life expectancy statistics this morning, it would appear that I'm approaching the mid point of my life. Yet I don't consider myself to be middle aged. I'm more likely to think of someone the age of my parents as being middle aged, where in truth they are probably closer to three quarters of the way through their lives.
How old do you think middle aged is?
Have you ever looked at life expectancy statistics for your country? If I had stayed in my birth country I could expect to live an additional 0.4 of a year, compared to where I live now. Of course, I could get struck by a meteorite any moment. Statistics are just statistics.

All I know is that, to my immense surprise, I am rapidly closing on my three score and ten. According to the stats I'm supposed to get to 83, but not, I suspect, unless I can win a million or so and buy a new set of lungs.
Middle age, well, I would have said the late forties to late fifties, maybe early 60's, and that's changed a lot in my lifetime.

According to the age of women that are in my family I am just about half way through my life span. Most of the women in my family have lived to be over 100 years old and I am going to be 58 this year. My mother is the only woman in my family that didn't live past 67. But as she grew older she got to where she didn't do much any day of her life. The rest of us are always busy doing something. I think it is how people take care of their lives is whether they live longer or shorter lives. If you sit around and do nothing all day then your life is going to be cut short, if you are busy everyday and in good health then you will live longer.

My Mom's side of the family lived to be in their 70s except for one Uncle and my Mom. So for her side 35 to 45 would be middle age.
My Dad's sided lives to be in their late 80s except for my Dad. So 40s would be middle aged for that side.
So I'm 54 and past middle age now. Only my Great Aunt Mod lived to her 100s.

Technically I don't think you're middle aged until 40's or 50's.. but also I think since quality of life starts deteriorating around 65-70, I'd say I'm getting darn close to middle aged!

Technically, I suppose you're middle aged when you reach the mid point of the life expectancy for your country. According to the table I've just looked up, that would be 40 for a woman in the US. I always think of middle aged as being someone a lot older though, probably around 60.

When you are torn between a carefree life and duty that is looming,
when you can't choose between a nice dress and practical clothing,
when the thrills coming your way aren't quite so thrilling,
when love seems the same as thankless working,
when peace you want comes to you with your snoring,
when future seems worse than the past that leaves you dreading,
that is when you know you are starting middle age and growing.
That has nothing to do with chronological age.

I suppose I'm considered to be middle-aged, but I'm 60, so, does that mean I'll live to 120?

I don't know what my statistics would show, but I am definitely past the 'middle' of my age points. I know this because there is not a cat in a furnace's chance that I will live to be 102. If I thought I were going to live that long, I think I'd kill myself.

Well, it is obviously had of what the life expectancy is. So if people live on an average of 80 years, then 40 would be middle aged. Years ago, people did not live much passed their 60's. So middle age would have been 30 something. Now, people are living into their 80's, 90's and on some occasions even 100. So middle age now would be to me, somewhere between the ages of 45 and 50.

I never checked or will check about the expected life, to be honest I don't believe in it and also don't care about living 0.4 of a year longer or shorter. If it's time it's time, that's fine with me. I also don't think about my age or being middle aged or not. From the moment on I left school, started working, I lived on my own nothing really changed. I don't feel old, am very active like I always was. Perhaps I even have more energy or at least a way better life as a kid.
I also believe that people nowadays do stay and look younger. My granny looked already like a real granny as she was way younger as I am now.
