A tornado touched down about an hour ago two miles from where I live. The sirens going off scared the heck out of me. I hate tornado season. I was in the bathtub for the better part of the warning (not bathing, just covered up in blankets because they recommend the middle of the house, or in the bathroom in the bathtub). Some of the pictures they are showing on TV are of trees uprooted and telephone wires knocked over. It wasn't a really bad one and no one was seriously hurt. We are now in a tornado watch because another storm is heading our way. And tomorrow we are expected to have more. I really wish we did not live in Tornado Alley. What time of the year weather wise is it for you? I know a lot of neighboring states are in tornado weather now too.

I live in Michigan. We have had alot of tornado warnings and there have been some pretty scary days. About a month agfo we had some very high winds that had our power out for 4 or 5 hours. But with all the warnings, we have never had one. Dexter had a really bad one and that's about an hour away from here, maybe less.

I lived in Flint back in the sixties when one went through and destroyed a lot of houses and hit the drive-in theater. We did not have the warnings then that we have today.
Here in Missouri we have them in fact I was in the one in 77 and 80 that tore up Sedalia. It seems that they have some kind of sever weather every year during the State Fair.

Oh how I remember living in Texas and Arkansas and how we got slammed a few times and a number of close calls. It's not fun living in tornato alley, that's for sure! I live in NC now and it seems that the tornatos that were never heard of are more and more frequent which is right scary because we're not used to them being here but they are now. Makes me wonder what the world is doing, falling apart? lol Figuratively speaking that is. My home state even had a few earth quakes which are really unheard of. That's supposed to happen in California, not in Va! In any case, I wish you the best and that nothing happens to you and/or where you live!

The way I understand it, every state has had some tornadoes and some earthquakes. Ambie had earthquakes last year, I remember. In 1999 when that nasty one went through the city my mom was without power for over two weeks. Her neighborhood was okay but the suppiles were damamged.

I got on mylot during a lull in the storms. I didn't want the lightning to hit my computer!
I live in Oklahoma. Even if I could afford to move, I probably wouldn't because of my family's presense here, but you can be assured I'd build a house with a basement.

Oh Ambie, I saw when I went to weather.com today that your area was going to get hit with tornadoes. I pray you are safe throughout this very active and scary season. We usually get tornado watches and warnings, and it has looked close to hitting us, but so far none have hit the community, though some have touched down about 3 miles from us in town, but nothing real major.

Tornadoes are virtually unknown in my city and state and also in most parts of my country. Even storms are very rare here in my city. I guess we are lucky not to have them at all. At present summer has just begun in my state and country and the temperature is hotting up.It will be the worst next month as the temperature will sky rocket and the weather will be extremely hot and humid and very uncomfortable.Already those who have airconditioners have starting using them but i don`t have one so i will just have to grin and bear the heat.

Well, I grew up in IL, so I can remember seeing Tornado's and the damage it can leave behind. I have not lived there in yrs. and for a lot of reasons do not miss it. I do think that an Earthquake without it's warning is not fun to go thru either. Just glad to hear everything is safe there for you, and always Praying for areas that are Tornado prone when it is Tornado season.

The weather man has already said that we can expect severe weather tomorrow, and we are traveling. I heard that it was bad near where you live, so I really appreciate you getting on and letting us know you are okay. How does Annabelle take to life in the bathtub? Do you have some water and food in case the power goes out? Take care of yourself, Okay?

I think Annabelle could sense my fear. She didn't like being in the bathtub, even though eventually she figured out I wasn't going to actually give her a bath. I do have a couple of bottles of water, but I certainly should stock up. This time of the year especially. I had my flashlight with me, but there are several more things I really should do in preparation.
I hope you aren't going to get caught up in any storms this weekend.

My dad had just taken my mom to Tulsa, so not only he is okay from the tornado, but he's getting a break overall. I was worried he was on the road while the storms were hitting, but when I called his home phone, he picked up. The ornery man though told me when I expressed my concern about us getting hit by a tornado, and I quote, "Amber, I can't be that lucky."

Well, I have a tornado shelter and I feel very safe ,but I'm sure that other people are not as safe as me in case of tornado. The weather is getting very strange. I don't worry about the house because I have good homeowners insurance and the important thing is that we are all safe.

I was watching the weather channel yesterday and saw you had bad weather...and was thinking of you! Hopefully today will be a bit calmer. WE usually have tornados in the spring and summer.....June and July....a couple of years ago we had one while we were at the camper and it was scary...we have a tornado shelter there though...glad you are okay!

When I was younger, like 14, 15, I wanted nothing more than to move out of New York state. Mostly I wanted to move to California to rub elbows with celebrities. My mom tried to convince me I didn't really want to go to Cali because of the quakes, but I thought she was being silly.
Anyway, I never did move to Cali, or any other state. Here I am 15 years later still living in NY.. mostly because I don't have the money to move out of state. But I've decided I'm okay where I am. We don't get earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes, volcanos, or any other natural disaster. We get snow.. that's about it. Lots of snow.. but you can take precautions against snow, shovel or plow the snow out of the road, salt the roads to melt the ice and keep cars from sliding, and brush it off your roof to avoid damage. You don't have to worry about hiding in a safe place.. the only unsafe place to be in a snowstorm is out driving. A lot of people do stock up on groceries before a snow storm, just in case, and once in a great while we'll get a storm strong enough to knock out power or take down a few trees.. but that's rare.
In my lifetime I can think of quite a few big blizzards we've had.. like the winter of 93 when school was closed for like a week because of so much snow. I can also think of a few non-snow storms that have caused power outages. There was an ice storm back in 01 and we were without power for about 4 days. Then there was a storm on Labor Day in 99 where some people were without power for like 2 weeks.
I'll take my weather over yours anyday!

We don't usually get many tornadoes in this area, but with the weather being as strange as it's been lately, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a few this spring. We get bad weather usually in late spring and then again in mid to late summer, but we tend to get more hail storms and flash flood types of storms.
Stay safe!

We don't have tornado here in my country but sometimes I heard it on the news, I really can't imagine how they can lift a house or even a big tress. It's scary, I'm glad the tornado is far from your place, but be alert always and take care.

We've had one tornado warning so far this year and we don't live in Tornado Alley. We're in the mountains in northern Virginia where the worst we usually get are bad snowstorms with lots of wind.
But, we definitely get tornado watches and warnings every year and I completely forgot about them until you reminded me... it's that time of year again!
These things are new to me (since we moved here from Baltimore, where we never got tornados) but I'd much rather be here than where you live. I do not envy you! I often wondered how people who go through tornados year after year keep living there but I figured it out. It's home and it would be hard to leave. I understand that now. Still...
Guess I'd better go check out my emergency kit, the stuff I keep in the basement just in case we ever do have a tornado come through here. (That's where my interior room without any windows is located.) I'm just outside of Winchester and the first year we lived here a tornado did touch down in the city of Winchester, just 8 miles away, so it wouldn't be unheard of.
I know I don't have to tell you to please be safe because I know you do all you can when you need to. I do worry about you living there, though, and everyone else who lives in Tornado Alley. Those tornados are vicious, unpredictable and show no mercy. I'm glad to hear that the one you're talking about here was not TOO bad but you never know when a deadly one will hit, huh?

I suppose that's all you can do as long as you live there. I pray you find that peace of mind and that all the tornados that we get this year touch down in non-populated areas. I wish there was a way to do more than just increase the warning time like direct them to non-populated areas. Maybe, one day....

We must live close to each other because we actually hunkered down in the hall Friday afternoon as the tornado touched down just a few blocks from our house. My son is in a wheelchair, my daughter is 9 months pregnant and my grandson is only 2... I was going nuts! lol!! Thankfully it missed us. But later the next night a town far north of us was not as fortunate there was much loss.
