My friend told me the other day that she uses vinegar to cleaned her house, although I heard it before but I never tried it. I know the sour smell of the vinegar, does the smell not stay in the house? Do you used vinegar to clean your house?

Lyn, so far i only use vinegar for cooking purposes. I haven't tried using vinegar for cleaning my home. It is because my hubby don't really like the smell of it. But through this discussion, it seems like vinegar can helps us save quite a lot of money. Because we don't have to spend money into buying multipurpose cleaner detergent anymore. Maybe i will give it a try in future. Only, i need to find some other scent to cover that strong smell of vinegar.

I have use vinegar in my homemade all-purpose cleaner for years. I can't recall the exact ingredients at the moment, but even though the smell does disappear, I like to add some citrus oil to make mine smell good as I use it and the smell of citrus repels some insects. But I was given a more natural way to make a vinegar cleaner and that is to fill a large jar with citrus peels, (my friend used oranges, but any citrus would do, so I used grapefruit)and then fill the jar with white vinegar. Let it sit for 2 weeks, and then pour into a spray bottle that is halfway filled with water, replace the top and shake. I used mine for the first time today, it smelled great and it cleaned really well.:)

The smell evaporates and takes any other odor with it. You can spray vinegar on counters to kill germs. I have heard it also repels ants. Put it in your dishwasher, or your washing machine. I use it instead of fabric softener. It takes water spots off of sinks, etc. You can clean mirrors and windows with it. Heat it up and pour it on weeds to kill them. Polish metal with vinegar and salt. I put baking soda in the drains then pour white vinegar down them, then boiling water to keep the sinks clean and running well.

A friend of mine who is a foreigner is using vinegar as cleaning material in his shower. Vinegar is acid so it can clean like muriatic acid but milder than muriatic adid. I was really impressed.

Vinegar is a wonderful disinfectant. The snell will dissipate after it evaporates. You dilute it to equal parts. You don't use it straight, or at least I don't. I use it in a spray bottle to wipe down counters and things.

Vinegar is environmentally safe to use to clean. I just use it on windows or glass, it's a good cleaner for that.

It's been my experience that as it dries, vinegar looses it's smell, It's a great cleaner of windows and all other glass items.

I have used vinegar on tile floors before and it does great. I guess the water dilutes it enough to where it doesn't leave a smell behind.

Carmelarinel suggested that we can add some citrus peels so it will be scented that way. And I think it is nice.

I think vinegar is the most economical and popular household cleanser. The smell of vinegar dissipates as it dries up so no worry about the sour smell after using it as a cleaning agent. I've heard that it can be substituted as bleach too for washing clothes.Good for cleaning windows, refrigerators, ovens and other appliances.
