Why does it seem so hard for me?

Some of you that know me, know that I have been doing the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure for the last 4 years. This is my 5th year and I've raised over $10,000 in this whole time. I know it's a huge accomplishment because I do this with very little help from anyone else. I send out e-mails to friends and family asking them to donate, I post on my Facebook page for donations, I do a TON of fundraisers all the time, I stand out in front of the grocery stores with my money jar, I really put in a lot of effort. Every year, it just seems like I'm struggling very hard over the course of a year to raise the money for this walk.
This year, my cousin is doing a marathon for a childrens hospital benefit and she raised over $1,600 in less than 3 months. A friend of mine is also doing a walk for charity and she raised over $1,500 in about 2 months. And what's really wild about it is that BOTH of them were worried about raising the money, got pointers from me, and just did so much better than I did. I know it's the first time for both of them, and I'm doing this for the 5th year in a row, but even my first year was not as good as they've done. Maybe I just have friends that are too poor to help out. It looks like I'll be getting pointers from them for now on!
What things have you done - or seen other people do - to raise money for the charity walks?

I am only going to speculate here why they are having better results at fund raising. First of all children's charities tend to attract more giving. Secondly, not to be critical, but the Susan G. Komen name is out there everywhere and people may be getting immune to it. They may be burned out so to speak. You do a great job of promoting it and I am so impressed. It feels great to give.

It is all over the place. That does make a lot of sense. Sometimes I just get really frustrated. I've got a good fundraiser going on now, I hope it turns out good!

When the flower bulbs I buy are pink for the cure, and the dish soap is as well, and rubber gloves and swiffer then I sometimes feel the name and cause lose their impact. I started given platelets this year and I was so touched. The cancer center called the blood bank where I gave and asked if I could give again, because the platelets I gave had done so much good for the patient that received them.

I was giving blood pretty regularly for a while. Then I started having this breathing problem that's probably associated with stress so they wont take my blood at the blood mobile. I have to go to the hospital, and it's just not always convenient so I don't do it as often. I know that's a "direct" donation since it's helping someone directly from you. Although I do love the 3-Day, I may have to find something else to involved in.
