Philippines

Hello lotters, My mom would kind disappoint or scold me when ever i water her plants and flowers around twelve noon or something like before afternoon. unfortunately, i couldn't help it because it was the available time i have. but lately i've been doint it this every evening, not bad but the problem are mosquitos flying around like crappy flies? what time is right for watering them? i don't want them to die simply because i water them

hi there, i was told that it is best to water the plants in the morning or in the afternoon, when it is not too hot because it is not good to be watering them during mid day because of the scorching heat of the sun. that's going to destroy the flowers.

Based on my experience, the best time to water the early in the morning or before 8am. As you observe, when the sun already up high the soil become hot, not good for the plants being water when they are already hot. It's like our body, what will happen after we exposed ourselves on the sun and take a bath. Either you will get fever or colds.

I am raised to a parents who love doing stuff in the farm and also in our garden so they explained it to me when I was still with them. When I live with my wife I always did this every morning right after I woke up. I missed do watering my wife plans outside our house.

Hello Julyteen, I strongly agree with you and this is the first time it has explained it to me this way.most of the time my mom would stop me from watering the plants at noon because she believes their going to die. but right now i understand it more clearly. unfortunately, i will do this in teh afternoon because i don't wake up that much early

Are you talking indoor or outdoor plants? Out door best time is at dusk or after dark for like grass and large areas...that way the water isn't evaporating so much into the heat of the day and it all can drain down the leaves and such to get to the dirt and soak to the roots without the heat of the day drying it so fast. Or early in the morning before it gets to hot...like before 8am. For indoor plants, I don't have much luck with them anyway...don't know why. But I do have 2 that are doing great, and I drop a couple of ice cubes in the pot every other day or so. Works great and no over spill mess!

Hello coffeebreaks, We used to have indoor plants but since mosquitos are in a way, we decided to have them all outdoors to keep insects away. they're just small garden plants to water on. it seems that it's good result for watering plants on dusk or after night because it gives a real freshness into the plants. thank you for supporting this method i just did. have a nice day

I have habit of pouring water to plants in the mornings.Because, i enjoy the fresh air and watering plants in the mornings or evenings. It's good for plants instead of afternoons. However, evenings we will have mosquito problems. So,in my opinion mornings is better.

dear LK, I understand you cannot make it early in the morning So, you can make it late afternoon- not in the evening either. Around 5pm is fine but never much early- like noon-afternoon (1-2pm) hehehe.

Hello Jaiho-sis, It's hard to make it in the morning knowing that i can never sleep the way i used to. sometimes i tried but it doesn't really work anymore the way it used to be. afternoon is good but i can't water it around one to two in the afternoon because it's still hot then it would dry up the water. have a nice day

Actually, watering should be done in the morning. If you water in the evening, then its too late and mold can grow during the night on the plants. If you water in the afternoon then it doesn't really have time to absorb into the soil before it dries out. If you water in the morning the water sinks into the soil and the very top dries enough to protect the root moisture.

Basically you don't want to water around noon because the water will pretty much evaporate and not soak into the ground or the plants themselves. It is really best to water (let it soak into the ground) first thing in the morning - maybe around 7:00 - 8:00 am or else in the later afternoon around 5:00 - 7:00 pm. That way the water doesn't evaporate and gets a chance to actually get into the ground. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

What a funny situation indeed...I am not really sure of what time but as my garden teacher before told me the best time to water the plant in early morning about 5 or 6 in the morning maybe then 4 or 5 in the afternoon. That is what I have been doing with my plants...It actually works.

Hello jndlponti, wow that is way too early, i mean four or five in the morning i would have to have lesser hours of sleep because i just can't wake up that early. I don't recall having a garden teacher though we were taught about the plants in biology but never into gardening it's a hobby of my moms

Mosquitoes could pose a problem for you in the evenings but early morning and evenings are the best times really that is when the sun does not show up. Watering in the heat of the sun will evaporate the water that is meant for your plants.

When there's not too much sun! When it's too hot and you water them they would die from that. So the best time in the summer season is at 6am and about 4 or 5 in the afternoon.

I always find that watering in the early morning hours (7-8am) or in the evening hours ..say about 1/2 hr after the sun goes down is the best time since bugs are not very active during this time. You don't want to water plants in the heat of the day because they won't soak up as much water, and the contrast between the heat and the cool water can actually put some finicky plants into shock. Maybe set up a sprinkler system for the early morning hours so you don't have to get our there to water them yourself...or perhaps a bug catcher to keep away the pests?

Hello rewardsinlife, i have done that watering the plants in the middle of the noon and it didn't turned out good for them. right now, it's either morning and early morning or at night while tolerating flying mosquitos of sorts. we don't have a sprinkler, i do the watering thing, which i really not bad

It is always good to water plants when it is cool outside, but not when it is SUPER cold, or freezing outside. It is good to water plants say, early in the morning, at about 7 or 8 AM because it is cool then, but not super-cold like how it is at let's say, 5 in the morning. It's ok to water in the evening, but as one of the other responders said, it seems as if you are going to have to find something to combat the bugs. I would rather water my outdoor plants in the morning, rather than at night, because the plants have the potential to freeze overnight from being soaked in water and being too cold throughout the night.

Hello HomeBase, hahaha I have never have done that before, LIKE i said i can't wake up in the morning that early. i would always consider myself lucky to have obviously to have water the plants a bit more early before evening. i have water them before evening sets, i wouldn't have problem if i was using a hose..have a nice day

I think the best time is early in the morning of aft the sun goes down that why the heat from the sun will not take all the water out of the plants before the water can help them grow

Letran, my parents always advised us to water the plants early in the morning before sunrise. But, if you can't make it, then you can always water your plant after 6pm, when the sun goes down. It is better not to water the plants when it is still very warm, as it can damage the roots of the plants. It can makes the roots of the plants unable to grow well. The roots of most plants are sensitive to warm water. Because when you water in the afternoon, the water would suck the heat and goes down to the root areas. Hope my explanation can clear your confusion. Have a nice weekend...

You definitely need to water the garden when its very hot or your plants will wilt and die

It is better to water the plants early morning or early evening but not 12 noon. The reason: at 12 noon the leaves are hot and watering them will have a drastic change in temperature and this is not good for plants or any living creature. Have you tried taking a bath right after you were exposed to the hot sun? (Even for around one hour.)

I think the best time to water the plants is early morning or at night. My grandma always reminds me of that. She told me that it is not advisable to water the plants during noon time when the sun is at its peak. I think it has something to do with the push and pull of the heat from the sun and the low temperature of the water. I took that advise seriously and luckily, all the plants in our garden seems to be just fine. So, I guess it is definitely working. But I have not tried watering the plants during noon time just so I can justify if what I was thought was right or wrong. Our plants are too beautiful for me to take the risk, I must say.
