I am going to be working in Manila in a couple of weeks from now. There are a lot of concerns that I have. I still needed to find a safe boarding house to stay, I need to get acquainted with the place, I need to budget my future expenses, and I need to find entertainment if I get bored. I assume that the place that I will be living in has no internet. For me, I need the internet because I get the updates through my email. I don't get used to having no internet access for a day because here in my hometown I have internet access everyday. I can get a plug-in modem for my internet needs but I need to save that expense for other important needs. During weekends, I plan to go to WIFI hotspots to entertain myself since I only work five days a week. I can go to coffee shops, buy coffee and get free wifi. But dining in fastfood chains are cheaper than in coffee shops. In Manila, do they offer free wifi to their customers? Like in Jolibee or Mcdonald's? Feel free to share. I'll be happy to read each of them. Thanks

I am not really sure. But anyways gas stations had wifi also... I think foods in jolibee and mcdonalds are not that expensive depends on your oder. You can eat full meal by 49 pesos in jolibee...or 50 in mcdonalds. I think some pizza parlors had some wifi zones then you can go there too. or maybe get a plug in internet like the smartbro, sun or tattoo so you could just stay in your apartment.

Thank you for your response. Gas stations also have wifi but not all of them. It's better to be at a food chain so that you can buy food if you are hungry. Yeah. I can get a plug in internet but I have to get load for the internet. I hope I could find a stable place where I could get regular free internet access. As much as possible, I want to lessen the expenses of things that are not necessities because I'm on a financial crisis. It's better if I could get free internet.

Yes. It's better if you can find a nice place. I have one officemate who was so lucky. He found a room for rent where they can access Internet as long as they want to, all for free.
Jndlponti is correct. You can also use prepaid Internet access. I believe you can after few months of working here.

a pleasant day jvincent_129,
now a days, a lot of establishments in manila offers free wifi. this facility is open and free to all of the clients and customers availing the products and services the store is being offer. however, not all stores are giving that facility due to their location, as there are some stores which cannot able to detect and get a signal so they can't afford to provide such facility. and for the specific fast food chain that you have mentioned, few of their branches are giving wifi connection as long as you have availed of their food products otherwise, they will not give you the password to access the net.

Thanks for the comment. I don't think I can live without the internet. I try to get as much as possible free internet so that I won't add this to my expenses.

I would do as much research on the place where you will be staying as you can online before you go. Since you have no acess to WIFI until the week-end I would also do research on the areas options. Here is a link with info on the different places where WIFI is available:

It is quite difficult to not have internet access if you are already used to having it daily. I tried that myself when I was boarding in a province. I hate it when I can't get to an internet spot. I suggest you buy your own modem plan for internet access. It will save you from a lot of stress and frustration in trying to move to wifi hotspots and the like. Also, surfing in wifi zones is unreliable because there are a lot of other people like you leeching on the internet bandwidth of the wifi hotspot. So I don't recommend that style of internet usage at all.

Yeah. I guess I have to buy a modem plug-in so that I can get internet in times of emergency. But once in a while I can find a wifi hotspot in which I can save in my internet usage.

I don’t think so that wifi is offered in a food chain like Jolibee and Mcdonalds in Manila. Because here in Cagayan de Oro they did not offer. What can I suggest to you is just go to in mall like SM because based on my experience wifi in SM is faster.

Some websites of internet/wifi providers will present maps showing the locations of wifi hotspots in an area you are going to visit or live, which can be useful.restaurant chain websites may have info on which branches would offer wifi.
