weird question: what do you do with tattered underwear?

LOL. I know. Do you throw them away? But aren't we supposed to Recycle, Reuse, and Reduce in order to save the environment? This is exactly what I do but some people find it weird that I turn old underwear into rags or something that I use to clean or dust things in the house. Is that weird? What do you do with yours? Don't laugh now. This is serious because it will show how much you care about the environment.

No it's no that weird I know most of us done the same thing. I used to recycle them most of the under wear are silk and soft so i used it as rag on any delicate things like on my lcd of my laptop that can cause harm if I used some rough rag. I do reuse the garter if it is not that bad to tie on something or reuse on some under wear too that has a loosen garter. My mother in law use it a sponge too well she already used to it that's why.

Yeah--why buy, right? When I need a rag, I just go over my undies and choose the ones that I do not want to be caught wearing in.LOL

Hi! Good discussion. If an underwear is in such a condition that one would not like to wear it, there is no harm is using the old & torn underwear as rags for dusting, till it lasts. My better half uses the tattered underwears for dusting and cleaning and there is nothing to feel bad about it. As the new undergarments made of cotton fabric are quite expensive now a days, why should we not make full use of them, till they last.

Oh dear, I know you said not to laugh, but I did have to have a bit of a chuckle! You really dont need to take the whole environmentally conscious thing so far! Recycle your glass and plastic as much as possible, recycle your paper, put your plant/food waste in your composter, but seriously, reusing your knickers when they're not wearable? No. Unless of course, you have huge Bridget Jones knickers that you could use as a tent if your house fell down.

I sut the bottom so they don´t look like undies and use them for: car cleaning, shoe cleaning, polishing wood (throw them away after that). I keep them at the garage, in a closed place near the shoe polish. Their use is not inside the house so I will never find one on the table

In the good old days, undies were made of 100% cotton. They could be bleached and placed to simmer In the stove with water, soap and some bleach. I´m sure that they were cleaner than the sponges we use nowadays

Believe it or not, our old folks would use it as sponge, you know, for washing dishes.

Hi Cutie, Ihave heard of recycling and saving the enviroment but this is a bit much for me... I really can't think of anything I would want to recycle my old underwear for...absolutely nothing...besides what size are the underwear that you can use them for dusting...I am just saying... To each his own...if it works for you, then more power to ya.....

Hi, BJ! This is a common practice I think in our country especially among the not-so-upper class of society.

I don't think that a flimsy teeny-weeny g-string will pass as a rug. But I used to love tattered and thin cotton underwear(As long as its garter is still good). It is fresh to the skin and not hugging or itchy. But if it is really ready to retire, then maybe I can use it as a disposable rag for something like muddy shoes.

No,I don't mean the g-strings. No one in my place here wear that. It's the regular undie.

Oh my gosh lol my mother always did this as well. Everything that got worn out she would cut up for rags. I pretty much do the same thing but underwear are something that I would never use as a rag. I dont want to keep old underwear laying around for someone to see. I would be too embarassed. I throw them away.

I haven't tried to use my undies as rag. I do use old shirt, old skirt, pants and shorts as rags- but undies- no. Like gifts wrote above, I can't imagine how friends would react in case I forgot it (undies) above the table or on chair while dusting Funny, but it can happen (we never knew) happy recycling - have a great weekend

I personally don't use them as rags. But Its funny to use them dusting and cleaning out furniture with these stuff. But its admirable you can turn things useful after all.I don't really know but usually when I know its does not make me comfortable anymore I just pack waste it. Anyway thank you for sharing.

No way I would use them as the rags to clean dust things in the house!(^^)Usually we just recycle the old shirts and pants or skirts but not undies.(^^) I don't want to see other people to do it so I would make sure not do the same. We just throw them out. But I am sure someone will recycle it and use it back.(^^)

I do keep any of my old panties I through them away when they are no longer good to wear. I have no use for them at all. I really wouldn't use them to clean my house with or anything.

Why the heck would I want to use my dirty paints to clean my house. Eww disgusting. You can do that with your house but I'm not doing that to mind. The environment is always going to be screwed up since the day humans where put here on this plant we f it up. So yes I throw mine away and that is my choice and no one else can tell me I'm right or wrong for doing so. You do what you want with your old clothes and I do what I want to do with mine.

i use tattered undies when i am staying home the whole day. i am comfortable with it because it wouldn't make visible lines along my waist. but of couse i use new ones when going out of the house. and when its really worn out, we cut it into pieces, making sure that no one will ever use it again and throw them away. my mother believe that it's not good to make undies as rag. she said if somebody will see it, it will reflect the home owners personality.
