It will depends on each person's skills and efforts, of course.
I guess I haven't gave all of my best, so that I haven't maximize my earning well.
So far, I never made any (money) investment and never got any good luck with referrals. Yet, I am only being able to earn $500+ in almost my first one year earning online (yeah, I am keep counting the number I earned :p). It's from various sources, mostly comes from doing human intelligence tasks (HIT). 
That would be mean my monthly average online earning is $50. Not bad, for a first year, I think..

I earn about $60/month with a combination of pinecone research, swagbucks, superpoints, and quickrewards. I never invested any money in any of these programs but I must admit to investing quite a bit of time. I am a downline in swagbucks and superpoints but they earn me very little so the bulk of my points come from my own effort. HTH.

My online earnings comes from some survey sites and from mybrowsercash.Survey earnings are not regular,though i have earned all most $400 from august,2011.Mybrowsercash earnings starts from march,12,since then i have earned $30.I am quite optimistic about mybrowsercash,i can earn $2 daily without investment,very soon.

I have been trying to earn online since December of last year. Without any investment of course. With some luck in the earlier stages i made a quick 50 bucks. But now my luck seems dry and i earn the occasional 10 - 20 bucks. Earning on internet without investment is a bit tough.
