Now he is saying he agrees that the gay couples should be able to get married. How can you believe he is being truthful though? So close to election he just has a realization? I seriously doubt it. Every day when I open Yahoo to check my inbox there is a picture of either him or his wife. Are you in? Do you belong to the Obama wagon? Ugh! So what do you think? Is he really thinking of the gays or of his second tour of the presidency?

What doe this have to do with watching television? You should have posted this under Politics where you would probably find a number of people who would agree with you. Frankly, at this point in time, what's wrong with gay marriage. It used to be illegal for blacks and whites to marry, what's wrong with gays? The primary opposition to gay marriage seems to come from the religious right but don't we live in a country that is supposed to separate church and state? You seem to be a homophobe and possibly a bigot.

No, I don't do POLITICS. I was watching tv. And I have already had several agree with me. Nothing is wrong with gay marriage. My entire discussion had very little to do with gay marriage but Obama's wussin' out and trying to get more votes. Try to pay attention to the discussion 'Kay?!!

The timing is off for him to just feel this is something he wanted to say. Now that last sentence scares me. I hope not. But.....??!!

I've read many of the posts under politics and your post reminded me of many of the discussions posted there. Do you really think that Obama wussed out or was he finally getting enough backbone to stand up and say what he's implied? For the most part, I don't think many gays were going to vote republican anyway, except for the Log Cabin Republicans, who I don't understand. (Why do they stand for a party that seems to feel they are immoral.) By the way, I am not gay. Every politician tries to position himself in a manner so as to capture voting groups. History's worst case if probably Hitler. Here is the US we had Joe McCarthy who changed parties so as to be with the majority party depending on the office he was seeking. The he took up t he mantle of 'defending' us against the red scare just to get re-elected. Oh well, at least we haven't heard that Obama has cheated on his wife .....yet.

I thought it was interesting that right before taking a side that a new study came out that said 52% of Americans now have either no opinion or approve. It was the highest number of approval or acceptance rate in history.

Hello celticeagle. I have stopped listening to Obama a long time ago. I got tired of listening to him bash Bush and the congress. He has gotten accustomed to luxury of the White House and wants t o stay. He is for every group he talks to. I don't think he is pro-gay just will say any thing to stay where is is. Hates the idea of packing all the things he has accumulated over the four years.

Oh, I quit listening to him too but I just happened to catch this. I am always listening to anything about the gays. I would mind him bashing Bush. I do that too! Yes, I think he will say anything too. He must not be getting the percentages elsewhere that he wants. Not another four years of him. Ugh!

I think that every single person mentally capable of discerning their buttocks from a hole in the ground realizes that this is political posturing at its finest. President Obama is just trying to rally support to recreate that fervor and the anticipatory excitement of "hope and change" that originally sprung up in 2008 but has withered on the vine for four years refusing to bear fruit. We all know the game. However, for gay marriage and its many advocates, it's a victory just to have him publicly say the words. It doesn't matter if he means it or not. He's Obama. He's the face of America. He's the most powerful leader in the world. His loose, empty rhetoric has more power in a 10-second soundbite than the entire movement has in a decade of protests. That somehow someone as charismatic and brilliant and as well-spoken as President Obama could speak those words and put gay marriage in the forefront and make it a priority over unemployment and record debt and no budget is, to its proponents, invaluable. One thing I can say for the man: He definitely knows how to play a messianic role for people--all people, any people--seeking a champion for their cause. Half of it is how he's received, of course, as anyone can sit there and say something. He never follows through with substance or action on these great stances he's triumphed for, like supposedly being for the downtrodden and the broken and the neglected. But his mere vocalization of things seems to send people into an enthused delirium. Obama's been thinking about 2012-16 since he gave his acceptance speech in 2008. I'm cynical enough to think that most of what he does is to hold office for another term. And I'm stubborn enough to keep thinking it until I see something to change my mind.

Ain't that the truth though?! His speaking those words is invaluable. And, yes he does know how to play his followers. Oh, you bet all he does is to promise him another seat for 2012-2016. I just hope that not every one is stupid enough to follow him like they did last time. I'm just afraid they are.

Seems to me like someone is trying to score some "Politically correct" points, regardless of what he truly believes. Really when you think about it, I'm not sure what Obama really believes honestly any more. And really when you think about it, I'm not even sure if Obama knows what Obama believes any more. That really is the fact about it. Then again, the opposition isn't much better, but as you look at the past four years, really things have not improved under him. As election time comes closer, we're have many other realizations from people, where they campaign saying that they are rather for things and really, they will say anything to get elected. It's not just Obama. Everything that anyone running that comes out of their mouth is a calculated move to get elected.

Politically CORRECT? I know if Obama even understands( or cares) what he stands for anymore. I agree. The opposition isn't much better. Just one more election I won't be voting for. I don't believe in any of them. Haven't for years. And won't put my name to it in helping them get alected either.

Cheers to Obama! no matter whether it's his way to get high votes during election or he's just really serious. More celebrities and hosts are happy of the President's decision too. Elen, Neil Patrick Harris and Lady Gaga raised their thumbs up too ;))

it does seem like he just says or does whatever will keep him in there, then when he has to go back on his word, he blames Bush or the republicans. OR he makes it seem like a race issue. now i never cared for republic party, but my grandpa would roll over in his grave if he seen how the democrates have changed into serve their own cause types. i dont think we are ever going to get a decent president again

I so agree. I don't vote anymore. Haven't had a candidate worth voting for for too many years. The presidency is a joke any more.

Don't the Republicans pander to the religious right? Mitt Romney has been sucking up to the conservatives to win the nomination causing him to flip flop over things he advocated as governor.

That's exactly right. And I think we will see again all the folks cheering for him like we saw all the people of color cheering him on. This time it will be the gays. God forbid this please!!
