Hospitality is when someone comes at the wrong time to visit, you are in the midst of having supper, and you offer him a place at the table and ask him to eat with you. It also means going out of your way to make someone feel comfortable in your home. The Holy Prophet Muhamad spoke a lot about etiquette and table manners. He would give a stranger the goat milk and the dates, and he and his wives would have very little to eat. Hospitality is when your home is open to a friend and any stranger that might come along - and you are hospitable with your guests and make them feel comfortable.

yes, hospitality is about making our guest comfortable and giving them comfort and food and beverages whatever we can give or manage. whenever guest comes to our house we should welcome them and make them comfortable and give them water first because they must be exhausted or tired because of the traveling.

I never thought of giving water first. That is a good welcome, and in the three desert religions - Islam, Christianity, Judaism - giving water is like gold. So to invite your guest to come in, serve them with water and other refreshments afterwards is indeed hospitality. Even letting your guest sit in your best chair is something special and hospitable. There are many ways to show hospitality to guests and to strangers.

giving water is normal and usual in India after water we give tea to them and in summer we give and cold drinks like Nimbu Sarbat. Hospitalilty is different from country to country and religion to region that is why we have different opinions and traditions and we can share it here.

I agree, Hospitality means accepting people and visitors and make them comfortable and welcome them cheerfully and provide them good accommodation. if our guest want to visit tourist places then we should give them all the information and be with them and arrange all the services while visiting the place.

First of all, I am wondering, how come you have started this discussion under Madhuri Dixit? what does she have to do with hospitality ? Hospitality is being hospitable for a price..That's what most hotels do, they don't give things away for free, everything comes with a price tag - all the best and happy mylotting

in hotels hospitality is about the money only they ask for money for everything like extra bed, flowers, extra services etc. all services comes with price tags. but Hospitality happens in the small scale also like in our houses where we welcome our guest and look after their health and other things.

Gajagamini: Hospitality means showing interest for others. Trying to do more for the guests. some of us receive others with a lot of interest and a few others do not. Giving what we have is also a form of hospitality.

Hospitality literally means the relationship between the host and a guest. The host is expected to provide the basic needs of the guest and most of all assure that he or she is comfortable. :)
