The Trouble With Rats

No, it's not what you think.
I actually LOVE rats. I have 3 pet rats right now. Named Fluffy, Kitty, and Madame Curie.
The trouble comes in taking care of them.
See, they are running low on food, and tonight we went to Target. I looked to find them some food, and target did not have rat food. They also didn't have hamster and gerbil food, even though they are MUCH more popular of a pet than rats are.
I have a hard time finding food for my pets. Even the pet stores in town close to me do not carry the pet mouse/rat food. So we have to make a special trip all the way to the other side of town to get food for them.
It can be frustrating sometimes, and they are a lot of trouble, but I still love them.
Have you ever had a pet rat or mouse or other "unconventional" pet? If so, what kind of pet did you have? Have you ever had a hard time finding food or other supplies your pet needed?

I'm not sure where you live but where I am they are extremely popular pets the store I work in carries over 5 different types of rat food at all times plus the hamster and gerbil foods
Now I have a pet potbelly pig she is hard to find food for only one place near me carries it and it is a 25min drive from my house as they have a very specific diet they need to keep them healthy they can't be. Fed regular pig food

We live in Savannah GA, and the only pet store that carrys the rat rood is petsmart. They also carry rats.
I've never owned a pot-belly pig. I didn't realize they needed different food from regular pigs. That's interesting.

See I live in Ontario Canada and almost all the stores here carry rat food petsmart, petvalu, global, pj's etc
Yes regular pig food is high profile for the little pigs and makes them hugly over weight you have to monitor a potbelly weight very closly as it does not take much to make them over weight

We used to have tree frogs that would eat live crickets. Those are hard to come by at times. Can you buy the food online in bulk and have it come to your house every month? I started doing this with some shakes that were hard to come by in stores.

Its funny, but you can find live crickets just about everywhere around here. And you would think they would be harder to find than rat food. But, come to think of it, the same store that has the rat food has the best selection of crickets.
I would like to buy from smaller shops, but guess looks like the chain across town from me keeps my business now.
I've looked online, and can't really find it at a fair price. If I can find teh food at a fair price, they kill you with shipping costs.

We have a cat and 2 dogs too, and some fish. We can always find food for them at any store, just not rat and mouse food (or even hamster and gerbil food which they can also eat.)
I can understand some stores not having rat food, but LOTS of kids have pet hamsters, so I don't understand them not having food for them.
