Are you happy with your name?

Ever since I was a kid I did have a hard time telling people how to properly pronounce my name. The spelling was quite hard to remember as well, so it has always been part of my daily existence to correct people. That got me thinking, if I were to change my name, what would it be? I will probably be something that is easy to pronounce and spell, like Jane, or Karen, or Samantha. How about you? if you were to change your real name, what would you use instead? I would love to hear your thoughts fellow myLotters!

I like my name very much and I didn't have many problems with at all, except for the usual disappearance of my 'E' when other people write it. I really love my name because it's kinda unique when I was young, I've only encountered ONE person who had the same name as me when I was in elementary, so it's really cool. ^^ My name is unisex as well, so sometimes people who don't know me would refer me as HE when they read my name or sometimes new teacher would put me in the list of the boys because of it. LOL! It's kinda hilarious, I really don't get offended when that happens, I'm not a girly girl anyways. Well, if I'll ever be able to have another name I would like it to be Ashlee, I don't want the 'ASHLEY' spelling, I like it better with 'LEE'. I really like that name, I sometimes use it as code names in the internet too, it's also kinda unisex but it swings more to the feminine side. ^^

i agree Ashlee is a beautiful name. I wish I could have unisex name, mine is too girly to even fit my personality But I am okay with it

Yeah, I think I'm just lucky to be given the name I have, although the whole family teases me about it. They would usually say my Mom gave me my name so I could eventually choose my gender...the nerve! ^^

Hi, my real name is Rona. I am a Filipino and my name is very Asian typical sounding name, right? Not that I don't like my name, sometimes I feel like it sounds special (especially if I am the only Rona in the room ). But if I can change my name, I would change it to something elegant like Lady Pennelope or Elizabeth or Queen Phoebe. What is your name by the way?
• Philippines

Wow, Phoebe is one of my favorite names!

Why thank you dear. I don't get to hear that often, because some people are having hard time pronouncing it

Hello Rona, my cousin has the same name as yours and I love her name. I am sure you are as beautiful as her too. I agree that it is not a common name and it sounds beautiful to me. I love your choice of names. My real name is Phoebe Lynzae

First of all I really don't know where did my parents get my name, its a common name and it also has a good meaning. My name is Arvin and its meaning is "peoples friend" in old german meaning. I have searched a different meaning and it means "battle worthy or carnage worthy" which I don't Like. I like my name because my parent gave me this name. If I was to change my name well I haven't really thought of it, but just to answer the question I want it to be Teddy, I just wanted to have a cute name.
• Philippines

Teddy is a cute name, so is Arvin I have number of friends whose name is Arvin, so I call them Arvin 1, Arvin 2, and Arvin 3. I guess that makes you Arvin 4

I'm happy with my name although I wish people would quit calling me "Care-oh-LINE" as that's not you pronounce my name. I could tell them the correct way to say my name until I'm blue in the face but it'd be no use. I also get other names, like Carol, Karen, Carlee, Michelle and even Jennifer...

Correcting people on how they pronounce your name can be tad too tiring at times, I can really relate with that

I'm not really that happy with my name. It sounds so odd to me. Haha. Although, nowadays, I'm seeing more people having the same name. My name is Grezen that comes from my father and mother's name. I work as a chat rep and most people often mistake me for a guy. It's not an issue though, but I wish I could have had a funkier name. ^^

Hello Grezen, may I say it is a beautiful name? I love that it sounds unique and so easy to remember and spell. Also, I am wondering where are you working as a chat representative, I am just curious
• Philippines

Oh I see. The reason why I asked is that your profile photo looks familiar to me that I thought you are one of my students before. I used to be a trainer for chat representatives on some company

Hi Evelyn, yes I think your name is quite nice! I also haven't met a person named Evelyn with the spelling E-V-E-H-L-Y-N but if you place the H in the beginning and mix the letter in EVELYN, we may get H-E-A-V-E-N-L-Y :D
• Philippines

Evelyn is a beautiful name although it is quite common here in our country, but I love how it can be easily remembered. H-E-A-V-E-N-L-Y, I love the play with words, BetterDays4Me

I love my name, but it bugs me when people can't say my name correctly or when they misspell, even though it is one of the most common names in the U.S., South and Central America, Canada, and Europe. My name is actually very easy to spell and very easy to pronounce.
• Philippines
16 May 12
Lucky for you my friend, now I wonder if it is common, how come other people still have a hard time mispronouncing your name?

Well, in that regard, I would have something to tell. My first name is Alessandro but I know that this name was assigned to me by my mother. My father would have wanted to choose a name even longer, namely: Massimiliano (That then became my middle name). However, with Alessandro almost all to me, have always abbreviated as "Ale". I can understand, instill is a long name to pronounce.
• Philippines
18 May 12
I love your name Alessandro. It's very manly and it sounds like the bearer of the name is a man of honor, which I am sure you are. Massimiliano is very long but it is beautiful on its own.

My real name is boring ~ it's a verrrry common name & I am tired of it. So on this site & some others, I have made up names to take the place of it. My real name is kind of cutesy & it's one of those names that was popular at a specific time & then kind of quit being used... People tell me that I'm younger than I look, so I would prefer not to use it because my name betrays my age, if that makes sense. What a great question! So you & I have the opposite problem with our names. :)
• Philippines
18 May 12
Hello tabatha7, yes, indeed we have the opposite issue with our name I love how you describe your name in terms of defying your age. It got me thinking, how would I feel when I reach 60 and people still call me Phoebe Lynzae?

dear I love my name but my name is also unusual .My name is not american at all its from my dads regilion. If i had a child which i was thinking if i did what would i name her and i really like the name Kathryn {Kate for short} and the name Tara, but i like to pronounce it like tar on the street and a long a but that also got me thinking every body would pronounce it the other way with a short a and she would have to correct people all the time.I would want to go by the name Kate because to me its simple and sweet.
• Philippines
18 May 12
I love the name Kate. I know some people who has that name and they have one thing in common, they are all beautiful. Needless to say that the name Kate reminds me of beautiful people. And the name Tar is equally likeable because of its uniqueness.

My name is simple, but a lot of people do not spell it correctly. I only have six letters so learning to write isn't hard. Middle names are always the hardest, like my daughter's name will be Willow Elizabeth Anne Lewis, so yeah...
• Philippines

I also have a hard time with my middle name but that's another story Also, can I just say that Willow is such a beautiful name?

Now I am wondering what yur name is and why it does not suit your personality But I have to say that Anthony and James are two of my most favorite guy names.
17 May 12
I am not happy with my name... I dont know why my parents gave that kind of name... its very old, unlike my other siblings (brothers and sisters) all their names are in model form... though for now i have no regrets with that name cause that old name make my parents proud to me during my college year. And if i had given a chance to change my name, I'd rather choose a unique that it easy to recall for others..

If your name is the same as your username here on myLot, I would say that Ronnel is quite common, and yet it has a retaining factor which makes it beautiful

hello lady, I might be lucky to have a simple name and readable like syllables. I don't want to change my name. I have a friend who has same problem like yours. Her name is Xerina and people read is as X-rina. She always correct them- but sometimes she let them call her that way :p
• Philippines
16 May 12
Hello jaiho, lucky for you to have a simple name. I can relate with your friends because sometimes I let people call me whatever they want as long as it is a decent name of course. My real name is Phoebe and they tend to call me po-we-bi or pow-bi when they get to read it first. On the other hand, they tend to spell my name as Fibee if they have just heard it first before seeing it written down.

I think that I am really mostly happy about my name right now, at this point right in my life. Of course, when you really think about it, it was likely something that I might not have been as happy about years and years ago. Still right at this point, I don't think that I would rather give the fact that I would rather change my name every consideration. If I had had one chance to change my name, I don't know if I would in fact if I would have taken it. I just think that only the fact that a completely numbskull would mispronounce my real name, then really, it is just something that is good. If I felt the need to screw with people and had a chance to change my name, I would change my name to something absurd, that would be difficult to pronounce. It would be a talking point for sure.
• Philippines
16 May 12
Absurd name is sure to be a good conversation start up. My name is not really absurd, it is just hard to pronounce especially here in our country where people isn't used to name such as mine. But people tend to always ask about how did my parents come up with such name.

I got two first names, one from from birth in the hospital and one from my baptismal in the church, and i ended having trouble of which one to use, so my father had it fixed by keeping them both, lol! Actually, i'm fine with it too, and simply would not change it as it really fits my personality.

For me, I don't like my name Aubrey because it is a foreign name! I don't like it because I have to sing the song Aubrey by the Bread when a teacher knows about the song. It is difficult to pronounce too! I prefer the name, Bernadette! I want to change my name but i knew it is quite expensive. I mutate my name into avery, and I make it averygirl because i remember a teacher in highschool always calling me Abrigirl which is a name of one of his other students in higher level.

You know what friend, Aubrey is the first choice of name that my parents thought of when I was born. But then for some reason they didn't use it. But I love the name Aubrey, and I love the song by the Bread. Bernadette is beautiful as well, by the way.

I ve been happy with my name , but , I remember when I was a little girl I always added another name plus my name, I guess I liked that name , but , Now that I am a grow up I really dont like that name I used to say. I really like my real name. When I was big around 28 I was going to become a nun , and since I didnt have a religious or bible name they were going to change my name , and I got the chance to choose it, I liked Judith. Since , I didnt become a nun , I kept my own name and I am happy with it.

Hello friend, this is funny because I remember myself adding another name to my real name when I was a kid too. I wasn't aware that when you choose to become a nun, they will change your name to something which can be found in the bible? That is something new to me, thank you for sharing that.
