Poor Kitty!

There are a few strays in our neighborhood including a couple that are very feral. One of these two feral cats has recently developed a limp. He's a sad, scruffy looking thing that just makes my soft heart bleed. I wish I could trap him and take him to the vet but I don't have a trap or the money for a vet so I sit here trying to coax him to trust me but holding out no hope. Don't you hate it when your hands are tied and you see some tragic figure like this kitty? He has such sad eyes, too, that it breaks my heart when our eyes meet. Another cat, we call Catzilla, is a big fluffy thing that has a bare patch on his chest where his fur has been pulled off somehow. It is growing back and he is friendly so I have hopes for his future. The park does trap the cats on occasion but there are still a few that look lost. I put scraps out on my back porch for them but beyond that, my hands are tied.

I had a stray tom that I caught and took in, turned out he just had a bad abscess, but I got him fixed at the same time - that was EONS ago tho...

Yes, spay/neuter and release is often the only thing we can do about some of these feral cats. Toby wasn't a feral cat but just a simple stray. His family had kicked him out when the family split up. Still, he was the best cat I ever had!

hi dear alaskanray you know I am a cat person as well and it would break my heart too seeing these poor feral furbabies. How I wish I could give two of them a proper home, I know two are not much but it would be a great start.

I know exactly what you mean. The strays are fairly easy to find homes for because they will accept human affection while the truly feral cats run from humans. Catzilla lets us pet him and he would be a good candidate for adoption but the black and white limper runs if I look at him cross-eyed so there's very little I can do for him. That's when it's really hard.

It kills me to see any type of stray animal! I want to take all of them home and love them and provide for them, but we all know that's not always realistic! It sucks knowing that though. You can always find a good home for them elsewhere.

You have a good heart! Maybe a way will be made for you to house all the stray cats, you would surely be a great caretaker..Until then, keep feeding them! :)

Oh, yes, I dream of having a fully functioning cat rescue but for now I just have to do what I can.
