So Facebook has launched with a price of $24 well I think now is the time to leave. Having been unhappy with recent changes and adverts cluttering up everything the time is nigh to close my account. The date I have chosen is 31st May 2012. I am open to persuasion up to that date but as yet I see no reason to stay. What do fellow MyLotters think.

I have no plan to close my Facebook account at all. I just leave it there and be a spy on my bf's Facebook account.

He probably uses BM for stuff he does not want you to see or one of the other social sites.

Did you say we have to pay for Facebook from a certain date? For what are we paying? People write to me. I hardly ever use FB to start conversation. Please let me know. Thanks.

No there is no payment for using FB I was referring to the initial price on the stock exchange. There is now an issue over information that was released to some before the shares were released on the stock exchange.

I use Facebook all the time, to stay in touch with friends and family that live miles away. I haven't seen anything that suggests they are going to be charging for a profile there. They are going to be selling stock, it hits the market tomorrow. A lot of investors are just waiting for it to open to purchase stock in it. I'll be keeping my facebook account, unless or until they charge for it, which I don't see happening soon as they would lose a lot of people that have profiles there, and the stock wouldn't be worth much.

Have you ever heard this news of Facebook charging money ? Because even I use facebook and I never saw such a thing on Facebook . Or is Facebook doing this only with its US users ? @the person who started this discussion : Could you please post the link of a screen shot of facebook asking you to pay money because I am not here to criticize facebook without valid proof because I myelf didn't receive any such message . Or an you post a link to some other site which also says what you say ?

Why do you feel it is time to leave Facebook just because they have finally launched? Do you think they will be alot of changes now and down grading? I am not happy with the recent changes on there either but I am staying. I think it is a fun site and actually I started using it as a break from my Mylotting and writing on other sites, research, etc.acouple of years ago. Then my BFF went online after much coaxing and she has an account on there. We have fun poking and commenting on links and so forth. I think it is really a personal choice. I haven't had any problems with the site and will remain there.

I don't blame you. Skype must be great fun. I have never tried it.

If you have relatives that you would like to be in contact with a web cam and microphone as long as you have a sound system with your computer, is the only expense and download Skype off the internet. You don't always have to use the web cam.

What has its share value got to do with your FB account? Anyway, you can go to 'security' under 'settings' and deactivate your account and get back whenever you feel like.

The value of the shares have no bearing on the account really. The main problem for me is that FB has changed so much. The administration does not listen to users who have continually complained about the changes. To no avail because it had to change to make it commercially attractive with the addition of more and more adverts. Yes I can deactivate but when I leave it has to be permanent and I'm sure I will lose all photos etc. stored there.

I believe that when you are not happy with something, you may avoid it and look for your happiness to someone or something new or worthwhile. Closing your FB account may be a way to have a fresh start, you have your reasons. My advise is that you just save those things that are important to you, like pictures, contact numbers, email addresses and whatever that has value. Save it in a file, or even put those pictures in myLot, those details may help you in the future. All I can say is that, if you are really unhappy with the site, you are good to go on the 31st. Good luck!

What a great response I have found that in the short time passed since this conversation was posted that I do need an alternative that I have more control over.

Even I'm not so active in facebook, but there is no reason to leave it. I have 3 accounts in there, 1 is my primary account to keep connect with my friends and family. The others just to have fun and make money. There is so much reason to keep stay on facebook, just get one good reason.

Facebook acts a important role in keep touch me and friends so far. I stay connect with my friends even i haven seen them before too. It is make me better relationship and learn something. Even some people are using computer or online everyday just for log on into Facebook only. This is very enigma for me that they just love Facebook, build a gorgeous profile, making friends and some others. I just wanna say that i cannot easily give up using Facebook.

I guess it is an age thing but at 64 the only problem I find is keeping up with casual acquaintances in Greece, Australia and distant family in Cyprus and Gibraltar. It is starting to make me think that those people will have to be in closer contact like Skype or will be lost if I leave FB.

There have been people saying they will eventually start charging for FB usage since I joined in 2008. I have decided from the first time that I heard it, that I will NEVER pay for it! If catching up with friends means that much to me, I should be catching up with them in person and have their phone numbers. We can exchange pictures via text. Don't get me wrong, I love FB and I am on everyday; but, I do not love it enough to pay for it! If I were you, I would not delete it until they do charge if you love it too!

Would not say I love it but it does enable me to keep up with people I don't see very often. The situation is bad now that travel is more expensive.

Sorry for the misunderstanding beachdune jumped to the idea that FB was charging as I never said that and was unaware that so many did not know that FB is launching on the stock exchange with a price of 24$. Yes my grandson has an I-phone but has a blackberry for BM and the granddaughter just has a blackberry for the same reason.
