It is a festival that married women of my state Orissa observe for the good health, prosperity of the husband and a happily married life. Legend says; according to Hindu mythology, the Goddess Savitri, through her penance and cunning, was able to release her husband Satyaban from the clutches of the God of death, Yama. Sabitri Brata falls on the Amabasya or No moon day in the month of Jyeshta. This year it falls on May 20th. Married women perform the puja once a year in memory of this event by fasting. However the fasting doesn’t mean going without food completely. Rather, it just means not eating rice and non-veg. My daughter in law will also observe this. We will go to the Shiva temple near our house carrying a brass platter , that has bangles of specific color, sindoor, bindis, alta; cosmetics, and different types of seasonal flowers, fruit like mango, water melon, coconut , sweets for offering the Gods, we will also lit some incense, and gave flowers to the Gods. Due to this the cost of these items has gone almost 10 fold. Husbands usually give a sari as gift to the wives, so cost of sari has gone up by 100% or more. Hubby has bought a silk sari for me and the puja items 2 days ago keeping in view the price rise. He is ill now, but I am sure he will be alright soon. After the puja, I will touch his feet and he will bless me. Any such festival that women at your place observe for husbands? Please comment and share your valued opinion. Kalyani 18/05/2012. There is nothing in the United States, that I know of that is anything like the festival for husbands that you have talked about here. I do think that if there was something like this in our area, it would be something that I would like to take part in. The reason that I would want to take part in something like this is because of the fact that my husband has been through a lot in the eight years that we've been married and I would like for things to be easier for him in the future.

So you are celebrating that kind of event. Here in our place we dont have much of such kind, we celebrate womens day and there are some activities somewhere. There are also fiesta of different kinds and some traditions copied from other countries or our traditions copied by other. In sum different countries have different customs and traditions. I hope your husband is feeling good and okay.
