The government just wants my money!

I got a letter in the mail today saying I owe just under $2,000. I have until June 04 to start paying or they will charge interest. What irritates me they give not even 2 weeks notice to start paying it, yet if they owe you money they take their time. I will have to call them next week and arrange to pay them. I will most likely pay in installments or when I get x amount of money. I figured in 2 -3 months it should be paid off. I just dont want to empty my bank account completely and leave myself with no money, and make the government happy.

Yeah that is the way it seems to work. I remember one year when I literally got an I.O.U. from the government after taxes...that was sure funny! Hopefully you can set out a plan to keep you some money but also pay them off quickly.

Ive had that where they owesd me a lot more and they took almost 8 months to pay me. I just dont want to interest to stack up on it either. But Ill call and see what thye have to say of course they most likely will try to wait it out, or pay the least amount so they get more interest.

Wow, that is a large amount of money! Maybe there are laws and regulations that can protect you about this! Also, I suggest to check it because it might be scam or fraud. Goodluck! :)

I just settled up with the government too. It was a burden that was a pleasure to be rid of. I have to get better at filing; sometimes my life gets so frenzied that I don't get around to it. I changed my deductions to zero as of this month in hopes that this will help me from owing so much at the end of the year. One thing is for sure, the government will get theirs.

$2,000 is too big money with me. I have only $50 in my bank account only. If i got that letter, i will be mad. However it is "ok" for you when you can pay that amount.

Hi Ricki! Well, in our country, our taxes were already deducted from our monthly salary so through witholding tax at the end of the year, we don't have to pay anything. I am representing the public sector.

Yes,the government rarely think about the poor men, they always take money from us ,and make a few people who have a money-relation with them rich.
