I Got My 1st Job Notification from oDesk!

Since applying to my 1st job on oDesk in April, I applied to 2 more this (Tues. & Wed.)- mostly article writing of various kinds, one with a fixed price, the other one with an hourly price for longer than 2 months. I was checking my oDesk messages on Thurs., when I saw that I got my 1st notification from an oDesk client! I was surprised but didn't get to read the long response in detail because I had to get ready for a neighbor's party. I came back later that night & read the message. It was a fixed price & required to complete the tasks by next week. That wasn't a bad deal but I read on & discovered they wanted 4 or 5 articles written per day!! I know I can't do even 4 good articles a day, not even 2. So, I realized that I wouldn't be able to do it - my 1st notification, asking me to work for them. So, I was going to decline but it said if I'm not interested then "don't respond". I'm happy I got my 1st possible oDesk job from a client, but disapointed that I could not do it & had to not do it. I applied to 2 more jobs yesterday, making sure they're ones calling for long durations & hourly prices, something I can handle - more time to do research, write, edit & cite articles.

Thank you for your congratulations. I don't think the client will reduce the quantity for me. What I need is more time to do jobs. So, I just recently checked the boxes for the hourly jobs not the fixed priced jobs in my search. The duration is as low as 1 month. That would give me enough time to complete a job if needed. The fixed priced ones are too quick for me. I do have writing experience & making money on the web - I had 2 freelance writing jobs in 2009 and then 2010. I just started writing on myLot in February. That's the only paying "job" I have now. I have 2 volunteer jobs, with no pay, since 2009. So, I have had mostly alot of work within the past 3 years with little money, but alot of experience enough to fill up my resume. I will see you soon as an online friend. Thank you!

Whoa... that was some good news there. Having to finish 5 good article may not be that easy though. The length and topic of the article is another factor that needed to be considered. How much were they offering you anyway? Is this kind of a side income for you? Well, still hope that you can get the right one for you.

They were offering between $5 to $10 per article. This is the only job I applied for this year. I'm hoping to do this full time. I revised my preferences to search for only hourly jobs, not for the fixed priced jobs. They usually are too quick for me to do. I'm only after hourly jobs which the duration may be as low as a month. That I can handle. Thanks for your hopes.

Sorry you weren't able to do the job. But better for you that you were able to admit before the job was done that you could not possibly complete it. Maybe change your profile a little more to explain what your hours and work you could possibly do max. per day?

I had checked the box for "any payment method". So, recently, I checked just the hourly jobs so it would give me more time to write & not be in a rush. I will continue to just go after the hourly jobs, even if the duration may be as low as a month or less.

I wish you luck with odesk. I am a member there but I never get up the guts to really apply for any of the jobs because I am so afraid of getting turned down and or ignored. On top of that a lot of the requesters want porfoilios and examples of your work, but I have none, and I really just can't fake it and throw a port folio together, it just feels wrong.

Good luck to you. Seems you don't have much experience in what you're applying for. What postions have you applied for there?

Well at least you were hired, congrats anyway! I never experienced to get a job in Odesk maybe because I am not that serious but hopefully to get one in the future. What I like with them is they give opportunity to job seekers especially to those who are stay at home mom and people.
