What did I learn at mylot today?

Every day I read and answer posts here. My friends are from all the world and my only sorrow is that I cannot answer them all. My interaction with mylotters are such as this: They post something or answer something to my posts. Many times I don´t know what they are talking about because their culture is different from mine. Then I start reading online. It seems that I have been reading for a long time about "pulses" when my friends from India talked about food. Today I checked, today I added the word to mt vocabulare, as I added a couple of years ago the word "chapatis". Are you aware of the rol of teather that mylot and mylotters have? Do you feel happy to learn here? Share your own experiences, friends. I so hate when people think that mylot is only a place to earn and forget it is primarily to socialise and learn.

I have learned so much. I like that I can vent or ask about anything and I get responses not only from my loyal friends but from other MyLotters. I also have learned to push back when pushed. Before if someone demeaned my point of view I would think there is another rerason I should kill myself1 Now I push right back!

i would like to add two words too.being courteous and nice.we can't really agree on all things and that all of us have really some words for anything.i just mean that we had to be nice to people even when we need to give some important views especially when we disagree.this is what i learned here in mylot.and being SUBTLE too.

I have learned that some terms and phrases that sound silly and childish in one area can be taken as extremely hostile and offensive in another area. I have also learned that language barriers can help us to interpret things the wrong way, but if we start asking questions rather than assuming that someone is being rude or offensive or off-topic or whatever, then not only can we clear up a potential misunderstanding but also have some good interactions and perhaps make a new friend in the process.

Language is one of the things that I have learned here. I have a good command of written English, but my sources have been the classics. Here I have been in touch with everyday English and also with other cultures. I have discovered, for instance that, in my country, rudeness is not so much about language, but it has a bigger meaning. I can be really mean (when the occation calls for it) being very sweet at the same time.

I have learnt so much since I first joined myLot, including a lot of American English words. I have leart that we all right or wrong depending on our perspective. There are so many cultures here that nothing is the same for everyone. For example, the $10 minimum payout might seem so litle for us European Lotters but, over time, we come to realise that for some it will buy the bread for the family for a whole week. Someof us scoff that it is such a small amount while others elesewhere are thrilled when they reach it

I think mylot is a good way to learn of other people's cultures. I find if I don't understand something that someone has said, it opens up another avenue of discussion so that the misunderstanding can be cleared up. We can learn a lot about each other and the world by just communicating! The money is secondary to me. Thanks for bringing this up!

I know, Deb. And when you just don´t understand at all, you can pick it up from the search engine and throw a light on the discussion. I have learned a lot about countries that I barely knew existed. And I have changed many of my ideas about other countries and cultures.

Dear marguicha I spent quite a less time today at mylot and nothing that special yet. But yes, yesterday I learned that some people think only about who "favors" them - and their definitions and thoughts are all guided by the "Favors". A few days back, I learned that sometimes, we lotters mean nothing to others - they leave us (many of their friend lotters) only because someone said something to them which they couldnt tolerate. Both might be unhealthy thoughts but I have learned them and yes, I am not going to be that kind of a person - that - is the real thing I learned.

We learn ways of behaving and ways other people behave. Sometimes we are a little too touchy, forgeting that in each country things have different meanings. I remembered that once one of my short stories was translated to English. I did not like the translation but could not have said it in English in a better way. The words were meant to be said in Spanish

There´s a joke in Spanish that mocks at how it would sound if a common courtesy sentence in Spanish were translated word by word to English: it would have no meaning at all

The translations many a times get confusing - maybe because of our interpretation of that "foreign term". When I was working on some translations (from Hindi to English) I too found stuck many a times finding equals of the "proverbs" of Hindi in English.

Hi marguicha! I have learned a lot from mylot. Most probably about what one thinks about others. I enjoyed reading what they post and sometimes I spend more time just searching and understanding the subject they had mentioned in their discussion. They talked about what happened in their place which I have no idea and will not read it from newspapers etc.(^^)

Yeah, the news they informed us we can't get them from the local newspaper for sure. They things they went through sometimes can be a good lessons for us to learn. From here I always get to know that I am luckier than them so I need to be more grateful.(^^)

There is no doubt that the more we learn and get to know other cultures the more aware we are as how much we are all alike in a lots of way despite of religion or creed I have learnt that basically we are all the same[ give or take]and I agree this place have given us the opportunity to know that!

That´s very true. Human values are the same everywhere and they are above cultural differences. Sometimes we are not aware of that. Mylot helps us see that as it is the next best to travel to another country and see with our own eyes.

I also learn so many things at myLot. I also appreciate what other people write and put it into practice. One myLotter friend wrote about "the guest plate is the Lord's plate" that explain the extra plate in their feast at the house on Christmas Eve or any other occasion is for the Lord, that He came in spirit as their guest to join them dining. So beautiful that I learn to put it into practice in our house as well everytime there's feast or occasion to celebrate. I also learn on how to deal with people in writing, to be cool with few negative comments. Mylot is a wonderful experience...

I decided that I was not ill anymore. My oncologist said the lymphoma was on remission, I have some minor digestive problems that I will see after my birthday and she said I could go for a vacation after my treatment (next Monday). It´s so nice to meet new people. I never before thought I could have real friends online

Hello again Margu. I've been away for so long because I travel a lot. I've been in China for 3 months because of work. I have learn a lot from their culture and their lifestyle. People there are not too different from us. Their slow pace of living is what makes them so different from others unlike at the big cities that are too crowded and busy. Same here at myLot, people wants to earn fast money but the hell with them. I come here to learn and talk to people and see their insights about anything. The earnings here is just a bonus for me. I hope people coming here will see that responding to discussions or creating one is not work but a way to learn and interact with other people.

It is true, marg. I remember one thing which I learned from here, that there will be tuning of time during winter season. It is very new to me. Mylot is a place of knowledge but many people never find the truth here and just using it for the purpose of earning alone.

I am sure that the people who come just to earn money do away soon, thanks be given. They don´t care about socoalising so they don´t earn much either as they don´t understand what a discussion is about

THis is a wonderful site to make friends and learn new things. "When in doubt ask mylot members."I have adopted this practice several times; we get paid for clarifying doubts of ours and this is a fringe benefit.

Hi marguicha... Yeah. many more. I mean i have learnt many more here. Through interactions or searching online as it requires sometimes. Much to say that i had a few knowledge on English language but after a 4 years journey here, i have developed myself in English although i need to learn more yet. So, my second reason to have here is learning and the first one is obviously gaining friends from several corners of the world. Have a nice time.

I have learned a lot about countries I hardly knew anything about. I have also discovered that I´m very ignorant, so that I´m more humble. That helps a lot when you meet people from other cultures.

Hi, Sitting at my office desk, i read about what's on with a friend who's on the other end of the world, whom I only knew through the interactions of my lot. Similarly, he/she knows about my family though we never met each other. We get so emotional with one's problems but we feel happy for other. We are glad if someone shared their achievement and we give free advises to the student who are addicted to mylot. I no longer come here for earning (i have reached the payout only once LOl) but to see how my friends are doing. There are some good caring and great friends though every lotter is not in my friend's list but i always get inspired from the senior lotters. Its great to know about your experience.
